Parsley

The Huffington Post:

UPDATE: Around 10PM ET, McCain rejected the endorsement of another right-wing pastor, Rod Parsley, "an Ohio preacher who has sharply criticized Islam and called the religion inherently violent."

[I]n an interview with The Associated Press, McCain said he rejected Parsley's support, too.

"I believe there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America, and I believe that even though he endorsed me, and I didn't endorse him, the fact is that I repudiate such talk, and I reject his endorsement," McCain told the AP. ...

[Parsley] has described Islam as an "anti-Christ religion" and the Muslim prophet Muhammad as "the mouthpiece of a conspiracy of spiritual evil," according to ABC News.

Why doesn't Mcain and Obama just come out and disavow every nurbag rightwing preacher in America and get it over with?

You're onto something for sure. And that's the undercurrent of racism that made all those folks weep and gnash their teeth over the Rev. Wright whose intemperate sermon merely stated some unfortunate truths.

He's also conservative. The out of touch MSM takes it for granted that white Christians are basically all fascists. That's just how it is. Why bother to comment on it? It's as American as apple pie, Norman Rockwell and flag pins.

I am a strong Obama supporter. But frankly, McCain is not as bad as his politics. Nothing like Hillary. McCain has some poor Ideas and I don't think he has a vision for a better America so I am not supporting him. But should be fair, his is doing the write thing. I and that is good. Actually I am one to believe that McCain, at some point during the GE, may actually endorse Obama.

Weird but think about it. Kerry is one of McCain's closest pals. Kerry is not just endorsing the senator but he believes that he will be good for country on the world stage. Also the guy who left because he did not want to campaign against Obama; well that was another close pal of McCain. I heard him on NPR months ago and he said that that he and McCain had a clear understanding that he would not be apart of campaign team that was determined to smear Obama. Why? Because these two candidates, Obama and McCain, are good people. McCain’s real friends are OK. However, his political allies don't give a damn about him. Look around and you will notice that he doesn't have following at all. He has party but no following. His surrogates only bash Obama and do little to promote McCain.

So let's not pick a fight, here. Otherwise we risk alienating swing voters.

Lol, how many more people is McSame going to have to distance himself from? Pretty soon he won't have a staff or any endorsements.

Christians have always wondered exactly who or what the Antichrist would be. As an Orthodox Christian I know that our Orthodox Church suffered 14 centuries of persecution at the hands of Islam, and is still persecuted to this day -- just look at the situation of the Greek Orthodox in Istanbul, or what happened to the Serbs in Kosovo since the 1999 war (with the complicity of NATO) and in general over 6 centuries. Read "The decline of Eastern Christianity under Islam : from Jihad to Dhimmitude : seventh-twentieth century" by the Jewish scholar Bat Ye'or, and her other books.
I'd have to say that given its refusal to let other religions -- especially Christianity -- freely exist and propagate themselves, Islam is a good candidate to be the Antichrist.

Is the solution then to bomb/murder the innocents among the populations of those countries? Does that inspire goodwill between the *people* of those nations and the bomber/murderer? I would think that many of the Christians in Lebanon that lay under bombs supplied by the US to Israel would think otherwise in that part of the world.

One should target the enemy, if war is to be undertaken it should be undertaken *justly* not with collateral damage and hand-waving justifications consisting of double-talk and cryptic apocalypse-immanentization ruling the day.

"Is the solution then to bomb/murder the innocents among the populations of those countries?"
Certainly not, I said no such thing, I just was commenting on the idea of whether Islam is the Antichrist. True Christians do not desire the destruction of any person or people, but rather their salvation.

"...through violence to conquer the world" Gee, sounds like the neoconservatives plan. And they can actually do it.

How this goober Parsley ever got a following is beyond me. This speaks badly of the citizenry of Ohio.

People like him have done more to destroy and discredit Christianity than any other force. He makes that old demon called the Papacy look benign.

For everyone who is still crying themselves to sleep over "Goddamn America" :

"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever." - Thomas Jefferson.

So I suppose old Tom hated America as well?

So this Pasley jerk says that Muslims are anti-Christ huh? It's the Christians that want to see Jesus (Peace Be on His Name) nailed to the cross. Who's being anti-Christ here? Muslims don't believe he was crucified, but they do believe that he his one of God's prophets. Muslims also belive that Christ worked miracles. It's these so-called Christians that are the ones that are truly anti-Christ! It is the Christians who believe in human sacrifice. Some Chrristian sects are like cannibals who symbolically "eat" the body of Christ. And they got the damn nerve to call Muslims anti-Christ? Please!

Well McCain when you stopped being a maverick and decided to kiss the backside of the crazies in the Religious Right , you should have realized that a certain amount of you know what would stick to your lips.

I suggest these people should read the history books instead of burning them. Throughout history every religious group has been labeled as the "Antichrist" by another religious group. It's not until we can get rid of this backwards thinking that we will be able to progress and mature as a nation. Claiming that certain groups are the Antichrist is only one step away from witch burning and has no place in modern society.

It's long past the time to recognize John McBush for another pandering political hack. It wouldn't be so awful if that was all he amounts to.... But John McBush is a disaster waiting to happen. An old fighter jock who, after four days of torture, spilled his guts, and admitted all. He then signed the paper labeling him as a war criminal... Hey, Intelligence told us everyone breaks. It's just a matter of time. But ol' John McBush never let go his anger.. He let it fester and merge with his ambitions to become POTUS.... The question is, do you want an old jet jock, suffering from post tramatic shock and looking for a target to bomb, bomb, bomb/bomb Iran, flying the most powerful military nation in the history of the world?
Besides, we can no longer aford him. His master, Dubya, has borrowed the USA into such a hole, our great great great grandchildren will still be trying to dig us out....

I think the real lesson here and with Rev. Wright is how dangerous it is to have allowed religion to become so close to government.
