Lieberman

There's one less Democrat listening to Sen. Joe Lieberman. Rabbi Ethan Tucker, the senator's step son, offered up his opinion on the difficulties facing Obama in reaching out to the Jewish community:

Tucker, 32, the biological son of Lieberman's wife, Hadassah, opines that an age split is apparent within the Jewish community in attitudes about Obama (as has also been shown in the overall Democratic constituency). Tucker, as paraphrased by reporter Jodi Kantor, asserts that younger Jews "have grown up in diverse settings and are therefore less likely to be troubled by Mr. Obama's associations than their elders."

So where does Rabbi Tucker fall on Obama, whose foreign policy bona fides were bashed by his stepfather in a recent editorial? Actually, he's backing Obama. Apparently, Obama's associations aren't a problem for him:

"Rabbi Tucker said he had given money to Mr. Obama and would vote for him in the fall. 'If association was the litmus test of identity, everyone would be a hopeless mishmash of confusion, or you'd have no friends,' he said."

70% of the Jewish community oppose remaining in Iraq and therefore oppose Lieberman's position on Iraq according to a recent American Jewish Committee poll. More than 70% of the Jewish community vote Democratic and will vote for Obama over McCain in the general election. There is no Jewish problem for Obama -- it is manufactured by neo-Con ideologues who want to create such a problem in order to push Obama further to the right on Israel.

It is very important -- critical -- that Obama simply ignore that never-ending chorus of neo-Con liars who lied us into Iraq in the first place and who continue to push the US to support what they (inaccurately) perceive as the interests of Israel over the interests of the United States. When exposed these neo-Cons simply say that whatever is in the interests of the Likud Party is in the interests of the United States (which is wholly untrue). Lieberman is among this group and does not have the support of 70% of the Jewish community on those policies.

Again, Obama has NO PROBLEM with the vast majority of the Jewish community and will get at least the same perentage of Jewish votes and money in the general election as any other Democratic nominee for the Presidency received in past elections.

Everything you say is true. Sadly, however, that 70% figure, while essentially the same as in 2004, is a bit down from previous decades . . . which leads to the conclusion that like the rest of America, we too have our 30 percenters.

Lierman is a piece of human excrement

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:25 AM on 05/24/2008

The best thing about lieberman is he joined the republicans ( metaphoricly speaking) just as they began their great meltdown so he's getting pulled down by the same current.

Shows a real assholes sense of timing.

I think leiberman's going down the tubes with the republicans is deserved. Is he going to change his alligence when the democrats are in power? Good for Rabbi Tucker and shame on Joe for all he has done lately to defile the democratic party.

Thanks for standing on your own two feet Rabbi Tucker. Your endorsement of Obama really does mean a lot.

It has been a long time since I even remotely thought of myself as young. Young at heart maybe, but not in body.
Anyway, I think it is true that among older people there is a lot of resistance to Obama, because of all of the wrong reasons. I say this from what I have seen, read, and heard from people my own age. Therefore, I think it is terribly important that young people come out to vote in the upcoming election. I think that young people, having grown up in an America in which they are used to seeing and living multiculturally, they will not automatically hold Obama's multicultural background against him.
If how people vote in the election is based on the issues, and on the nominees' integrity, then I think the logical thing to do is to vote for the Democrat. Obviously.

I see this too. We've made such a muck up of this planet and we're unwilling to let go of the reigns. With the legacy we're leaving behind for the youth, I really hope they can push us off the post - the sooner the better.

I agree completely. PA is the second oldest state in the country and it says something when Barack is losing the over 65 crowd by 2 to 1 in many primaries (Can you say WV or KY?). We are talking about a stubborn electorate set in their ways.

No we see a bunch of older whites who would never vote for a black candidate. That's what the problem is, and it's been confirmed.

Nothing to do with being older, wiser and more experienced? Perhaps they know a thing or two about Chicago politics and what it takes to get along in the Illinois legislature.

Thank you Rabbi Tucker; my 61 year old Jewish husband, formerly from New York and now here with me in Arizona is also voting for Senator Obama. I think your step father's allegiance is not to the US but to Israel only.
You are one smart, young Rabbi.

Independent for Obama '08

heal57 thank you for your honesty! I have felt for too long that Senator Lieberman was Israel first an USA second.

the policies that Senator Lieberman has supported and demonstrated in the bush term were anything BUT supportive of israel; IRAN has been supported and bolstered, Iraq has created a cesspool of hate and instead of tieing up our aid to egypt for lower hate in their government controled media we just went business as usual so actually Mr lieberman has been many things but his po9licies has been detrimental to israel

Ah, antisemites think that most Jews in America think "Israel first and USA second."

thanks for the admission.

If Lieberman was smart enough to realize what would actually be best for Israel, he would vote for Obama. Things have only become worse for Israel with Bush in office and they will continue to have the world turn against them with Mcbush in office. If you care about Israel's security and future, Obama is the guy to vote for.

A fundamentalist is a fundamentalist is a fundamentalist. It doesn't matter what religion we're talking about; they're all cut from the same cloth. The only difference is to what degree they are supported by the government of the state in which they reside.

Lieberman, an Orthodox Jew, reminds me of my Aunt Mary, also an Orthodox Jew. She was one of the most intolerant, bigoted, unflinchingly narrow-minded individuals it's ever been my displeasure to be around.

My family, like many others I'm sure, has shown me over the years that we Jews can be some of the most myopic people this planet has seen. You'd think, after all that has happened to us, we'd know better. I guess there's no accounting for the stupidity of religion.

God (or whoever is in charge of these things) have mercy on us all.

Nope. Orthodox. That fact, however, has nothing to do with his blind support of Israel at the expense of Americans. I know Orthodox Jews who are supporting Obama. They are under 35 years old interestingly.

We hear America is poised to become #2 in the world. We know how much our dollar has declined. We feel the pain at the pump, in the grocery line, and we don't dare apply for more credit. We haven't seen our relatives in Cuba for decades. We've seen our jobs decline. We sunk thousands of lives and dollars into war based on a false premise. We have a choice between what's hopeful, intelligent, and current. Or we can choose McCain, a symbol that America is surely about to expire.

I want her to live! Obama '08.

Incredibly well said, I don't understand why EVERYONE doesn't realize this. I hope that all of the Hillary supporters who are vowing to vote for McCain over Obama wake up and see this before Nov. This election should not even be close, what are people thinking?

When did the word "current" mean "appropriate" or "best." Current usually means "fad" or "transient" it is "waiting for the next wave of fashion." It has nothing of stability, strength, or endurance. Obama is certainly current. I prefer experience over rhetoric, substance over style, and thus I will not vote Obama in 08 or any other year--and I am a life-long Democrat.
