Lieberman's Stepson: I'm Voting For Obama

There's one less Democrat listening to Sen. Joe Lieberman. Rabbi Ethan Tucker, the senator's step son, offered up his opinion on the difficulties facing Obama in reaching out to the Jewish community:

Tucker, 32, the biological son of Lieberman's wife, Hadassah, opines that an age split is apparent within the Jewish community in attitudes about Obama (as has also been shown in the overall Democratic constituency). Tucker, as paraphrased by reporter Jodi Kantor, asserts that younger Jews "have grown up in diverse settings and are therefore less likely to be troubled by Mr. Obama's associations than their elders."

So where does Rabbi Tucker fall on Obama, whose foreign policy bona fides were bashed by his stepfather in a recent editorial? Actually, he's backing Obama. Apparently, Obama's associations aren't a problem for him:

"Rabbi Tucker said he had given money to Mr. Obama and would vote for him in the fall. 'If association was the litmus test of identity, everyone would be a hopeless mishmash of confusion, or you'd have no friends,' he said."

When will we rid ourselves of religious zealotry of all stripes. The extremists of every religion claim their piety commands an inordinate amount of respect, respect they never earn. The Christian, Jewish and Muslim extremists are all driving the World towards extinction.

You don't need a Bible, Torah or Koran to know how your fellow human beings should be treated. The zealots use their holy books to find some angle to cheat.

Best of luck to the Rabbi but I fear he is only perpetuating a hopelessly corrupt system of religious thought that will result in more needless pain and turmoil.

yes, i agree. I have always said and taught my children. that no matter how many laws are put on the books about rights of others and discrimination, you can not legislate law into mankinds heart. you are either of the right mind and heart or you're not.

I can only imagine the tension at their dinner table, some time in the future, when Joe and Ethan glare at each other across the table, knowing that they canceled out each other's votes, effectively rendering their own votes irrelevant. Priceless.

Lieberman is simply paying back the Republican machine that put him in office. He should be REMOVED from the party.

Senator Lieberman is not a Democrat any more, and my Republican friends don’t accept him, so I would guess that makes him nothing politically. If McCain goose down in defeat and the Senate picks up more seats, Lieberman's Senate career will be over, if he chooses to run again. I have many friends in CT and Lieberman’s name is mud. They view him as a liar and a tool for the Republicans. There aren’t enough Republicans in CT to send him back to Washington. I pray there is a large enough Democratic majority in 09 to remove you from chairmanships rendering him ineffective. Anyway good for his stepson, he knows talent when he sees it.

There seems to be a misconception that the peoples of Jewish or Arab heritage cannot like Obama, as a 49 year old woman of Syrian/Anglo decent, I commend my Jewish brother alembic54 for standing up for what is right and good.
