Lieberman's Stepson: I'm Voting For Obama

There's one less Democrat listening to Sen. Joe Lieberman. Rabbi Ethan Tucker, the senator's step son, offered up his opinion on the difficulties facing Obama in reaching out to the Jewish community:

Tucker, 32, the biological son of Lieberman's wife, Hadassah, opines that an age split is apparent within the Jewish community in attitudes about Obama (as has also been shown in the overall Democratic constituency). Tucker, as paraphrased by reporter Jodi Kantor, asserts that younger Jews "have grown up in diverse settings and are therefore less likely to be troubled by Mr. Obama's associations than their elders."

So where does Rabbi Tucker fall on Obama, whose foreign policy bona fides were bashed by his stepfather in a recent editorial? Actually, he's backing Obama. Apparently, Obama's associations aren't a problem for him:

"Rabbi Tucker said he had given money to Mr. Obama and would vote for him in the fall. 'If association was the litmus test of identity, everyone would be a hopeless mishmash of confusion, or you'd have no friends,' he said."

Yes, I've also found a strong divide between grandparents (60+) and their grandchildren (18-40). Those over 65 usually go with that which is most familiar to them, and they fear change. As such, they would lean overwhelmingly towards Hillary Clinton, wife of Bill Clinton. Besides, she looks more like them. The concept of "yenem," the other, is a strong one.

Their grandchildren have grown up in a different time, have been exposed to many cultures and harbour fewer prejudices. They are more open-minded and welcome change. They are usually more educated, another key demographic skewed towards Sen Obama. A great majority of the people in this group would tend to relate better to Barack Obama.

As for Jews within the 40-60 group, I'd guess that it's generally split along gender lines. I'd guess that the majority of females voted for Clinton, and most of the males voted for Obama. Just in a general sense, but this 52 year old Jewish woman voted for Sen Obama.

I don't know whether the Jenna question was a joke or not, but my impression during a recent interview she gave with her mother about their book was that she might actually be considering supporting Obama. Seems hard to fathom, given that she has just married a Karl Rove acolyte, but stranger things have happened. Does anyone know what show that was on, have a link?

Jenna also said that She knew Very Little about the Candidates & had not done any research because She had so little time due to Her Wedding plans so She wasn't real sure Who She would Vote for.

But in the Interview She & Laura gave this week Jenna had evidently found enough time to Vote 40 times for David Cook on American Idol which happens to be one of Her favorite Shows.

Oh God ! What is happening to People ? Do they not see that Their Futures and Freedoms are at Stake ? I Hope Jenna & Others Wake-Up & Do the Research Necessary to make an Informed Decision BEFORE they Vote & I'm NOT talking about American Idol.

What a great story that the headline doesn't really represent. (1) Lieberman's step son and (2) a man who is a rabbi and understands the generation gap that affects the Jewish community just like it does some other areas of Hillary's and McCain's support.
