ABC News:

Al Franken is a funny man, but Minnesota voters might not see the humor in a column that the former Saturday Night Live star -- and current candidate for the United States Senate -- wrote in Playboy magazine in 2000.

On Thursday, the Minnesota Republican Party released a letter, signed by six prominent GOP women, including a state senator and state representative, calling on Franken to apologize for his "demeaning and degrading" article.

I'd have more respect for him if he paid his taxes.

His accountant paid the taxes...to the wrong state. He hired a forensic accountant to figure out what happened. The taxes were paid in a timely manner but to the wrong states. He needed to disperse the monies to the places where Franken entertained. Franken did nothing intentionally wrong.

I'm for Al but hey, this is fair game. People are accountable for their own history.

They are -- I hope he stands up in the name of satire though. That satire cannot exist because people don't realize that Playboy contains writing ... that is a sad country indeed.

Why is it that men continue to either pick women as their spokepersons or they use women as a shield to say and do those things that they could never be seen saying or doing. Hey, let's brainwash women into believing something absurd and then let's have them write a letter, give a speech, or appear before the White House Press Corps and complain about something. It is never the women's idea to begin with. Like the issue of abortion. Men head all the organizations that oppose it and yet they never say anything, they send a woman out to do it. Corporations do the same thing. I have no doubt some white GOP male said hey, let's get some women to claim Franken is a sexist, he demeans women, he's vulgar, yes, that's the ticket. What I don't understand it that women, especially the GOP kind of woman, keeps falling for it, as if it was really their idea!

I disagree with this. Most Republican women think of this on their own.

Which is even more sad.

From the article:

"While you may attempt to defend your writing as satire, we hardly find anything defensible about your finding humor in your desire to have sex with women or robots that look like women simply to give yourself a good time," the Minnesota GOP women wrote in the letter.

I'll be back in a few. I have to go read Porn-O-Rama now.

From the Minnesota Star Tribune (May 20, 2008):

'Meanwhile, DFLers (the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party) are calling on Republican incumbent Norm Coleman to divest his reelection campaign of nearly $10,000 received from the political-action committee and employees of a lobbying firm that represented Myanmar's military regime.'

So in typical Victorian-Age fashion, the Republicans attempt to distract with a shiny-sparkle issue of sex, then carry on with their own despicable motivations of greed, fascism, and death.

Okay, so there is this Republican driving in his car past several farms and pastures and he does this double-take. He stops the car and looks out over the field and he sees another Republican sitting in a rowboat and rowing furiously. Keep in mind that this is in the middle of the field and there is absolutely no water around the rowboat--it is completely dry. Yet, the Republican is rowing as though he is actually going somewhere.
The Republican who had been driving in the car shouts out at the Republican in the rowboat: "Hey, it's Republicans like you that give us a bad name and if I knew how to swim, I would come over there and kick your ass."

Satire requires an understanding of the material. Only elites who are out of touch can appreciate satire. Maybe you should stick to the blue collar comedy tour. That'll git-R-dun fer ya.

you have to understand the satire though, something beyond the ken of 99% of RepugliKKKans. Stick to Jeff Foxworthy redneck jokes!

There is no prurient interest here, but this is the sort of vulgarity the GOP should be concerned with.

It's one of those "oldies but goodies" that never goes out of style. I certainly can't blame the oppo for playing this card. The dems would do the same in a heartbeat.

I haven't really followed Franken's career, but this is a liability for sure if you're running for Senate in the midwest.

Franklin's a very smart guy who won't sell out to Big Money Lobby. Let's hope the midwest has finally began to grow up and rejects the grotesque monster called the republican party and its greedy, lying members running for office.
