Hillary Clinton Still Calling For Debate

ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Since the Pennsylvania primary Sen. Hillary Clinton has been calling for a debate with her opponent, Sen. Barack Obama.

She continued her plea in Penuelas, Puerto Rico, standing outside a restaurant while less than 100 people gathered on a dirt walkway. Obama has rebuffed these requests and has instead begun campaigning in states that would be important for him in the general election if he becomes the Democratic presidential nominee.

"I was informed that Univision will sponsor a debate between Sen. Obama and myself about the issues affecting Puerto Rico," Clinton said. "I accept that invitation. Anytime, anywhere. That is the best way for the people of Puerto Rico to have their questions asked and answered and for the rest of the United States to learn more about Puerto Rico."

I recommend taking a page out of Senator Obama's book. He sees no value in demeaning and degrading Senator Clinton. I agree. The voters and the delegates have spoken and he remains the frontrunner. That fact is unequivocal. A debate for the sake of debating is without merit or substance. I think that HRC would be shocked if Senator Obama agreed to it. This is just pro forma. Bill Clinton says that all of the calls for his wife to quit is a conspiracy. The conspiracy is so big that the only non-participants are the supporters of HRC. Everyone else is suspect of collusion or outright sabotage irrespective of party affiliation.

If the issue were still in doubt he would debate her. It isn't and he will not. Hillary's Clintonistas need to get over it. The race is finished in all but name. The only thing left is for her to decide if she prefers to continue to damage not only the party's standing but her own. She damages both with the nonsense she continues to do.

A winner *never* debates a loser. It gives the loser free publicity as well as standing. Hillary Clinton has no standing vis-a-vis Obama,who has been increasing his delegate lead over her daily since SuperTuesday. Why would he want to legitimize her? His job is now to debate McCain.

If there is not a good exit strategy for her then the millions who voted for her will not easily fall in line and calling them names or attempting to shame them or control them with fear (as in the mccain threat) will not work. She will most likely have the popular vote - the total count every vote vote. He will be the legal nominee and has the delegates according to the dem current rule book. This is a very very close race. Huff is the only place I hear about her calling for a debate - guess they need news. It is just part of her stump speech but it is obvious that he refuses to debate her. She still needs to be treated with respect and civility.
