Chateau Miraval: Brad And Angelina Lease French Estate (PHOTOS)

Brad Pitt and Angelina have been in the South of France for some time, relaxing with their kids and attending the Cannes Film Festival while Angelina rides out her pregnancy with twins. And they now have a piece of Provence to call their own. Update: They actually just signed a three-year lease and have moved in.

The pair and the four children have been staying at Paul Allen's villa, and have been photographed going on various helicopter trips in recent weeks. Some say the trips were scouting outings, as they looked for a French home of their own. Now E! and the Daily Mail report that the Jolie-Pitt clan has plunked down $60 million on Chateau Miraval, near Aix-en-Provence. Other reports value the home, perhaps just rented, at $70 million. Tuesday the NY Post reported the Chateau Miraval purchase and priced the place that high.

Rent or buy, the chateau comes with a vineyard (Miraval website here), but that's the least of it. It also has 35 bedrooms, a lake, a pool, and a moat, claim E!. It is unclear if the home was ever on the market, but the Jolie-Pitts have reportedly tendered offers on homes that were not for sale/rent before.

They will have plenty of famous friends nearby. U2's Bono and the Edge have bases in the South of France, as does Johnny Depp.

They donated 1 million for Darfur relief. Jolie donated 1 million to help Afghan refugees in Pakistan. She has traveled to refugee camps all over the world and worked and lived under the same conditions as the relief workers. She pledged 5 million to start a wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia. Together they donated more than 8 million to charity in 2006.

what is this American obsession with this boring couple. who cares. the only thing that seems noteworthy is that they are again spending obscene amounts of money for personal privacy. i don't really blame them for this, but i don't admire it either. there are plenty of hollywood superstars who don't appear in the tabloids every 3 days. i assume there is a way to avoid doing so, like not courting magazines with baby pics sold for charity. maybe that was their terribly clever way of using the press; but it just seemed supremely crass to me. just compare these two and their publicity hound approach to charity with joanne woodward and paul newman. enough said.

I find them both to be hypocrites. Rebuilding homes in New Orleans, helping all these kids in third world nations, then returning to a life of MASSIVE consumerism. MASSIVE carbon footprint!

Sure they can "afford" it.. but sorry if I had their money and their supposed "values" I would have incredible guilt living so lavishly after having just come from war ravaged refugee camps, seeing sick and dying people, kids etc.

In a client meeting (hospital) a colleague brought up Sicko and refernced the French woman in the movie that had a baby and the govt supplied nanny shows up for a few months to take care of the house and shopping and cooking and whatever else the mother may need until she gets back on her feet. This service is STANDARD in France and humane...our client was shocked....and made a comment about we can't have that here because people won't ever get off welfare (!) ...we had to explain again that the French woman was a middle class working woman not some loafer and looser and that everyone received this....everyone.We commented that this is enough incentive to move to France and the client said well go then...this conversation was in middle america in a Republican stronghold...they still don't get it....I was glad to get back to brooklyn.

It takes 9 years to become a dentist in France, they have very good health care - the Welsh have a boat that regularly goes to France called no kidding - The Tooth Ferry. Although they have to pay, it isn't that much, and they know they will get the best of care. Yeah, Angelina has to offer Brat every so often some other exitement. And it's far away from Hollywood by the time he gets to close with someone in LA , she will wisk him off to France. And still no screens on the windows, . And how many car garage does it have and is the kitchen fully outfitted - Have all the systems in it been updated-elect, gas, HVAC, cable/intenet, are the utilities underground to keep the views nice? Seems to me it's probably mostly an investment.
