Bear Shot Out Of Tree In Pennsylvania (VIDEO)

Wildlife officials had to be called in to tranquilize a bear that was spotted roaming near a school in Pennsylvania. The bear had climbed into a tree, and officials had no choice but to shoot it down with a tranquilizer dart. Despite the image of the bear lying unconscious on the pavement after tumbling hard from the tree, the bear was ultimately unharmed and returned to the wild.

Agreed. I've lived in a supposedly "liberal" third-world nation where no one would have thought twice about killing this or any other animal. There are a lot of reasons to criticize the US, but animal treatment is not one of them. Despite the tragedy of factory farming, the US is still one of the world's leaders in humane treatment of animals.

Just recently, in NJ, a bear was shot in similar circumstances. Although the ammo in that case was lethal.

Good grief, they did what the public would have demanded...they tranquilized it and took it to the woods....away from a school. Can you imagine all those curious kids and the super hysterical parents. Geez. Last spring in Seattle it took over 20 cops running down the street shooting tazers, scarring a bear to flee and run under a house, tazered it again and KILLED it. My o my. RAMBO at its best. While a nearbye college student stood, watched and said "the best entertainment I have seen all year". Whoopee. If they had gotten a sensible game warden instead of hysterical cops, that little bear would have been trapped and transported. Disgusting behavior. So at least the people in PA did the right thing and I think for that state, this was rather remarkable.. On this one, I am in the bear's camp.

Scared as I am to cross paths with a bear in the wild, the fact is you almost never see them when you're in their neck of the woods. By nature, they are pretty shy. If they see you first they generally run the other way.

If it were me, I would do something to break the fall. Acts of compassion are always good for the soul but this one is a no brainer. The bear is knocked out and no danger to anyone at that point but himself when he falls, dead weight onto cement. That hurts where you're human or bear.

well hello tho there unbias, the smart and intelligent neaderthal who is undoubtedly afraid of wildlife.. Normally these bears are forced into the surburban towns due to development taking away habitat..they are hungry, they are out of hibernation and people leave garbage all over. And they are afraid of people and would rather go in the other direction...unless you are between a mother and her cubs. Left alone it would likely have come down later and left. The bear was IN the tree..the mattress wasn't necessary but could have been done. These instances are happening all over the country more and more.

you don't know much about bears, do you? This wasn't a grizzly or polar bear. It was a little black bear that would prefer to rummage through your garbage cans than have to deal with a bunch of noisy skittish humans. I used to see bears like this in Yosemite and when ever they saw people, they just ran away. It climbed that tree just to get away from the throng.

Colbert is an asshole and isn't even funny. In fact, on a relative scale, the poor bear who was trapped in the tree, probably, is more intellegent than Colbert is.
