In the spring of 2007, a conference was held on the outskirts of Washington, DC. Entitled Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan, it hearkened back to the Winter Soldier testimonies held three decades ago during the Vietnam War. Of the testimonies we filmed, this one, by Iraq War vet Jon Michael Turner, was the most compelling and intense.

Watch the video below:

I am shocked and very, very ashamed of the US. How can we send innocent boys to "serve our country" and then assign them the immoral and soul-destroying task of terrorizing unarmed, defenseless Iraqi citizens?

What is wrong with us, with our government?

"Flashback" by Penny Coleman is a book about PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
Anyone who was surprised about what was in that film (above) needs to read Flasback.
War has always been terrible. People always suffer. We can do nothing about the dead.
We CAN do something about those who come back as walking-wounded; and we must.

You can see the PTSD in the eyes of those brave men on stage in that video.

We have only begun to pay for this war. Even many that come back "alive" will never really be alive again inside.

Jesus.....if this doesn't bring tears to your eyes and a deep sorrow then nothing will.
Unfortunately this should be shown on the nightly newscast.

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous . He's describing war crimes. Why isn't he being prosecuted?

Because everyone has done it.

I'd expect the US Gov't to discredit and smear these men completely. A real shame.

I was recently in a place, where I could listen but not respond, because I happened to be reclined on my back, with my mouth open, as someone cleaned my teeth with GWB talking live on a cable news channel.
The dental tech offered her advice on Iraq "We should just wipe that country out. Nuke it."
I thought "Isn't this the argument we used in Vietnam? Kill them to save them."
She added "But they do have something we could imitate (Middle-East Countries), they have the trial and take the guilty party out and kill them right here."
I thought "Yes, that would save a lot of time and money. But of course, the dozens of innocent prisoners exonerated by DNA would all be dead."

The Republican Answer to every problem known to man: Kill more people... quicker."

Please tell me after you paid your bill in full, you announced LOUDLY you would never again let that dental tech anywhere near your mouth with a sharp instrument, and furthermore, you would be seeing a different dentist to boot.

War turns good people into different beings... It took more courage to admit this, than it did for them to join.

I've talked to many vets who served in different wars. They all had similar stories of things they did and lived with the guilt and regret. They also had stories of things they saw happen to good friends they knew.

War turns good people into different beings. War is not a good thing.

War can force good people to do horrible things and it certainly blurs the distinction between what is moral and immoral, but it doesn't give anyone a pass to do something that is clearly criminal.

He murdered in cold blood not one, but two human beings. They were clearly noncombatants.

As for his apology, I don't know if it's the apology of a good man gone bad or a sociopath who is mouthing words he knows we want to hear.

When I was in the first Gulf War a news reporter asked a soldier what he was looking forward to. His answer was to legally kill people. I've often wondered and hoped one of his fellow soldiers turned him in and he was sent back to the states and kicked out of the Army.

More evidence that war, particularly this useless one, just destroys everything and everyone it touches.

Tell that to the hundreds of countries that have been liberated because of wars - not sitting around growing their hair and listening to Joan Baez songs while smoking dope.

What treachery, grief, and destruction of life! . I am going to push to get this message out. I feel so helpless and depressed! That 12 year old with his head blown off could have been my son! This has got to end. All the political spin and posturing means nothing if we the people can not do something to end the madness! Are we just supposed to wait around until Obama is sworn in? If anyone has the email addresses for the major news outlets, please post them here.
People talk of the blood that will be shed if we pull out of Iraq?
Every day we stay there is a day too many!

I'm glad he came forward to tell the truth but I hope he is prosecuted for war crimes.

The tattoo alone should have kept him out of the Middle East and in my opinion booted from the military.

Pure propoganda by anti-US elements. It's never hard to find persons to spin yarns in a manner in which liberals and leftists need and desire for political purposes.

I am deeply ashamed. McCain the Warmonger must not be allowed to continue this war on the innocent people of Iraq.

Vote Obama
