Report: Obama Banking Superdelegates

The Atlantic:

In June of 1984, the day after California handed Gary Hart a last-minute victory and New Jersey, thanks to Hart's having insulted the state, voted for Walter Mondale by 15 points, Tad Devine, Mondale's chief superdelegate counter, was ready. Worried that Mondale would not meet his pledge to end the primary season with a majority of delegates, Devine and his team made a "frantic" series of phone calls to undeclared party leaders; by noon, a few dozen superdelegates endorsed Mondale en masse, taking the wind of out Hart's campaign forever....

To prepare for that eventuality, the Obama campaign has, for the first time, really, begun to bank delegates. Sources close to the campaign estimate that as many as three dozen Democratic superdelegates have privately pledged to announce their support for Obama on June 4 or 5. The campaign is determined that Obama not end the first week in June without securing the support of delegates numbering 2026 -- or 2210, as the case may be.

Of course. Sure, I am deeply disappointed in her. She is not the leader that I thought she could be. But she is vastly better than McCain, and I agree with her (stated) positions on most issues.

I honestly don't know. I absolutely will NOT vote for McCain, or another Republican for that matter. But, given Clinton's gross and horrendous tactics (saying and doing anything just to win) and practically throwing her own party under the proverbial bus, I can't in good consience vote for her either. So, maybe a vote for Nader? In my eyes, he deserves some blame for Gore's loss in 2000 and I think his time has passed. This is a good and tough question. Hopefully, Obama will be the Democratic nominee, so I won't be face with this dilemma in November.

Wolfson: Obama making us look bad

Howard Wolfson has come out with a new set of allegations, claiming that Barack Obama is conducting an evil campaign designed to make Sen. Hillary Clinton look bad in the public eye.

"Obama should be ashamed," gushed Wolfson. "He has the unmitigated gall to conduct himself with dignity and integrity. This is politics, where there is no place for a high road. He has the audacity, for example, to tell the truth, even when it isn't politically convenient, evidenced by his disgustingly principled postion on the gas tax holiday.

"How can Sen. Clinton, who lacks these traits, be expect to compete? It horrifically unfair."

Wolfson proposes a mulligan, wherein the do-over primary prohibits the implementation of virtue on the campaign trail. "We believe this will give us a significant advantage," added the sufficiently outraged spokesman.

Yes, the British press started to turn on Hillary, in force, anyway, about 3 months ago. Before that, they liked her and supported her---pretty much. But now almost on a daily basis she is blasted, in both broadsheet and tabloid. For many reasons, one of them---though not the most important---is that they think she is missing the stiff upper lip thing that the British so admire. The carrying oneself with grace and dignity when taking a loss.
