SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Shocking new photographs show polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs holding and kissing two different young girls in wedding-like photos. [scroll for more]

The images, dated July 2006 and January 2005, were entered into evidence last Friday by the defense in the custody battle over a 1-week-old baby, the Deseret News reported. The case was sparked by an April 3 raid of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints compound in Eldorado, Texas.

In one set of photos Jeffs appears with a girl named girl named Loretta under the label of "First Anniversary" with a date of Jan. 26, 2005. The second set show him and a girl named Merrianne and are dated July 27, 2006.

The Texas Child Protective Services lawyers would not reveal how they obtained the photos, but are using them to allege the culture at the compound is abusive, and forces young girls to become child brides, the Deseret News reported.

Dan Jessop, the father of the baby at the center of this particular case, told reporters on Friday the photos are "shocking."

"You see far worse, immoral, disgusting, gross things than a girl kissing a man in the streets of your own community," said Jessop, according to the newspaper. "And you and I don't know if the state of Texas fabricated that."

This is all about men wanting to exert their power to do anything they want over women and children, and nothing more.

Read Jon Krakauer's "Under the Banner of Heaven" and you'll find out that Mormon "Prophet" Joseph Smith was against polygamy--right up until HE got tired of his first lawful wife. Then suddenly God told him it was all right. to marry again. But we also find out that others, like Brigham Young, were appalled at the idea of polygamy and began to question Smith's motives. Smith in the meantime, did like every other cheating man would do. He hid his adulterous activity until he couldn't any longer and only then did he testify that God told him to marry as many women as he wanted to.

In the meantime, the men of the FLDS, like Warren Jeffs, were unwilling to give up the "benefits" of not only polygamy, but of their power to do anything with anyone under their "family" control.

If the FLDS version of polygamy just included multiple non-brainwashed women in a mutually loving experience, I wouldn't personally have a problem with it, but since so many of these "prophets" are little more than seedy, horny men who consider children to be accessible for their lust, society has a perfect right to protect these abusers' victims; regardless whether they even realize they are being victimized.

I'm curious why you would contact the PR division of one church to complain about crimes committed by a different church. If I didn't like what some Catholics were doing, should I visit with the press secretary of the Lutherans?

What can Mormon leaders legally do besides speak out? As an advoate, it might be well to work with someone who has legal claim to prosecute or step in, rather than harassing some receptionist in a church department that has no jurisdiction.

This is disgusting. These children need to be removed from this cult, and not given back unless the mothers, are de- programed, and break from it, never to return. While this is a sect of the Mormon religion, there is a reason why polygamy was outlawed. Brigham Young and the Mormons made it part of their beliefs, defying the law.
