Back in February Bloggingheads TV hosted a discussion between Matt Welch, the author of the McCain biography "The Myth Of The Maverick", and Will Wilkinson of the Cato Institute in which they discussed how McCain's "Straight Talk" ends up disarming the media's coverage of him.

Much of the media loves McCain's "straight talk" because they're lazy. Have you noticed how many stories are run about missing or murdered pretty white women? It's because their families pay publicists to keep things on the air. Do you remember how many stations aired the fake "news reports" issued by the WH and other Govt agencies?
Maybe John McCain can "straight talk", and tell the American people why he cooperated with the enemy when he was a prisoner of war, and received special treatment by the Vietnamese Government for it!! That is a matter of PUBLIC GOVERNMENT RECORD (records that have been CLASSIFIED by the US Government)
Maybe McCain should tell the American people why he won't have the tapes UNCLASSIFIED so the Ameican people can all see how he disrespected the USA. ( McCain's father was instrumental in getting the records sealed. McCain's father was Commander of all U.S. forces in Vietnam)
It is a matter of government record, that McCain made 32 TAPES of PROPAGANDA for the Vietnamese Government, the enemy of the USA, and it seems he was the ONLY prisoner of war in Vietnam to have cooperated with the enemy.
John McCain also gave interviews to the Vietnamese communist news service, interviews that were NOT flattering to the USA, but were disrespectul to this country.
I think the citizens if this country, would like to know why McCain worked for the enemy during the Vietnam war, and why he doesn't want Americans to see what he - McCain said about this country to the Vietnamese government.

His actions under confinement would qualify as treason, as it is particularly egregious of an officer or other leader to sacrifice his or her own troops for self benefit. Cooperating with the enemy in the form of any sort of propoganda is criminal but not to the extent of earning a firing squad, as is the former crime. Certain amounts of breaking are expected and allowed for, but McCain went far beyond this repeatedly, not merely as a single infraction.
Of course, his current behavior suggests that he has never been particularly familiar with military law and necessity, nor closely acquainted with true patriotism that sustains those who behave in a manner that does not betray their country and their fellow soldiers.

Does one expect any sort of meaningful answer?
But McCain does have a YouTube problem...
Best line in that clip: "Apologizing is a great way to get laid!"
I would love to see someone on the Sunday talking heads shows* actually whip out that line in the middle of a breathless discussion about McCain's maverickyness.
(* = a rhetorical device only. In real life, I try never to watch those, anymore! :-)
