I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Lauren Hutton

Lauren Hutton appeared on the "Today" show Thursday to publicize a new makeup line, but went on a rant about men's "hunter" ways and how promiscuous male writers make "Sex and the City" characters sluts - or so she thought, though she's never watched the show.

She said in part:

"It's written by guys, who happen to be gay, who are sluts. That's what I think. Let's face it most men are sluts...You have a bunch a guys who are sluts, writing for women and telling them they are supposed to act like this... I've never seen the show. Are the girls like that or not?"

Watch the whole clip:

How do guys take the blame for Sex and the City? It's a Chick Flick! A Chick Flick made possible by the huge success made possible by it's actors, and viewers (WOMEN). Why can't women just admit that they are capable of the same behavior and pathology that they love to pretend is unique to men?

Clint Eastwood wasn't Japanese, but apparently he was able to accurately portray the POV of Japanese soldiers and officers in Letters from Iwo Jima.

Her argument is silly.

I didn't see them all, so I don't know if there were other moments that topped my favorite one, which being a straight guy who likes blow jobs as much as any guy uptight straight or slutty gay I suppose laughed my ass off when Kim Cattrall's character encountered and had to share with us all the phenomenon of 'funky spunk'.

They couldn't push the sex scenes into the absolute graphicness that pure porn can, but when the camera showed her bobbing head obviously blowing a guy rise into frame with that look of tasting something so horrible, and cut to her lunch table proclamation about her latest dude and his stinky semen, I fell off the couch I laughed so hard.

And then I almost died laughing when they cut back to show her getting him to admit if he can stand tasting it she'd go on, and he does! His wincing, gagging denial that it seems okay to him was the funniest swipe at absurd things that happen in peoples private sex lives I think I've ever seen.

The show should have been call "Sex, Ain't It Silly?"

The substance of her comments -- about the fundamental difference between the sexes -- was so right on. She was speaking about the media hype around the show (women as sexual predators). You don't have to have seen a single episode of Sex & The City to know that much about it.

If you haven't "seen a single episode of Sex & The City", then you don't know anything about it and your "comments" are mere blind speculation.

not really...i don't own a TV and haven't for years yet i know about this stupid show and the sopranos and the view and american idol...

for some reason watching these inane shows isn't ENOUGH for the american public..then we have to "read" about it in the "news"....popular culture is not that hard to keep up with. ...just a headline or two tells you all you need to know....it's actually impossible to get away from.

Lauren should watch the show for sure before commenting. And maybe she should read the credits. A number of the behind-the-scenes ppl are women. I actually quasi knew one of them who was in my college program around the time I was.

Hey, Lauren, in the immortal words of Peewee Herman: "I know what I am ... what are you?"

Okay, I know that may not be very mature, but hey, whaddaya expect from a man?

Lauren should watch the show first before commenting. All of the characters were involved in long term relationships at the start of the film. None of them slept around.

I think of it as, "Genital Warts in the City". Just about everybody I know has something that requires treatment.

I would rather watch reruns of Seinfield, the Sopranos, Deadwood, Band of Brothers or countless other shows than any of these sexy ( ? ) women shows or frustrated
over 40 repressed women. The advantage of pro-choice is obvious, in all things. Is it not what America stands for.

When the show came out on basic cable, my husband and I slogged through the entire six seasons. We were curious, of course, but we never really could see what all the hype was about. The character of Carrie was so self-centered and boring. I just never found any depth to her. Like that episode where she met "the perfect" guy then went insane trying to find his faults and eventually tore his apartment apart. As I consider myself sane, I just didn't get the point. Also, what I find sad is that these types of shows are really dumbing down women to think that happiness only comes from looking young and buying things. What ever happened to being older and wiser? Why don't we admire wisdom anymore? I can respect Lauren's point of view because she has been around a long time and obviously knows how the Hollywood game is played. Without even seeing the show, she knew the premise of the characters. I am glad that people get a lot of pleasure from this show, but geez, get a grip. It's fiction.

The women are quirky to the point of being neurotic. I've seen some but not all the shows but probably won't see the film.

I've seen the show and Lauren Hutton is pretty much spot on.

That's not to say SATC wasn't interesting.

Having attempted to watch the show twice, I concur with Hutton's comments, though this may well just be the resistance of an anachronistic guy detached from the modern "scene." It's the run-up to the movie that has really bothered me, though-- frankly, I was disgusted by the wardrobe changes, the thousand-dollar shoes, and the raw, unadulterated consumerism.
