I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Lauren Hutton

Lauren Hutton appeared on the "Today" show Thursday to publicize a new makeup line, but went on a rant about men's "hunter" ways and how promiscuous male writers make "Sex and the City" characters sluts - or so she thought, though she's never watched the show.

She said in part:

"It's written by guys, who happen to be gay, who are sluts. That's what I think. Let's face it most men are sluts...You have a bunch a guys who are sluts, writing for women and telling them they are supposed to act like this... I've never seen the show. Are the girls like that or not?"

Watch the whole clip:

As a male who prefers other genres to chickflicks, I watched Sex in the City on HBO with my wife (she watched The Sopranos with me). If you live in middle America, have school-age children, work part or full time to fill the family coffers, and try to do something meaningful with your life, these sex-money-style women will seem more than a little silly to you. Just like the women of Wisteria Lane, they don't care about charity unless it's attached to a luncheon or other function that allows them to strut their stuff. But then, quite often that's the lure of charity functions. Sex... and Desperate... are meant to be fun -- they don't call homosexuals 'gay' for nothing, and gay men predominate among the writers, I'm told. You sign on for the wit, the devilment, the outrage, the surprise, and of course, to laugh.

I loved the TV show and I plan to see the movie this weekend. If Ms. Hutton has never seen the show how can she comment on it. Again another hollywooder who thinks we care about their opionion when in reality they don't know anything about the subject they are talking about.

SUSAN SARANDON, who appeared in three films last year and won kudos for her TV movie "Bernard and Doris," is still not a contented soul. She says if John McCain gets elected, she will move to Italy or Canada. She adds, "It's a critical time, but I have faith in the American people."

Hey, let me know when she makes her move. She and Tim Robbins have a real nice house in New Canaan, CT.

I'll help her pack!

Didn't one of the Baldwins make the same statement about Bush? That jack@ss never moved. Susan, don't try and get our hopes up.

What a flake!

Put a bookmark on that, and we'll see if she follows through when McCain wins in Nov.

I think I'll pass on watching the clip. Why should I give my attention to a "review" from somebody who admits she's never seen the show?

And where does Lauren Hutton of all people get off slamming gay men? Without them she never would have had a career...

She is just pissed because she had to do crappy movies and could not be on a TV show that was successful like this.

Who cares what Lauren Hutton says, frankly? I just came back from walking to two theatres here on Manhattan's Upper West Side and it is sold out for the weekend at both, save 10 am shows. Lauren Huttton should wish she had a number one movie to plug and not a make up line no one needs or cares about. And for the record, as a gay man, that is Mr. Slut to you, Missy.

Let's try this again.....

Kathy Lee: So what do you think of a movie like "Sex and the City"?

Lauren Hutton: "Never saw it, can't comment."

NEXT QUESTION

Steve Martin said it best when he sang:

Be courteous, kind and forgiving,
Be gentle and peaceful each day,
Be warm and human and grateful,
And have a good thing to say.

Be thoughtful and trustful and childlike,
Be witty and happy and wise,
Be honest and love all your neighbours,
Be obsequious, purple, and clairvoyant.

Be pompous, obese, and eat cactus,
Be dull, and boring, and omnipresent,
Criticize things you don't know about,
Be oblong and have your knees removed.

Be tasteless, rude, and offensive,
Live in a swamp and be three dimensional,
Put a live chicken in your underwear,
Get all excited and go to a yawning festival.

O.K. everybody!

Be courteous, kind and forgiving,
Be gentle and peaceful each day,
Be warm and human and grateful,
And have a good thing to say.

Be thoughtful and trustful and childlike,
(O.K. everybody on this!)
Be witty and happy and wise,
Be honest and love all your neighbours,
Be obsequious, purple, and clairvoyant.
(Let 'em hear you outside!)

Be pompous, obese, and eat cactus,
(Everybody sing!)
Be dull, and boring, and omnipresent,
Criticize things you don't know about,
Be oblong and have your knees removed.

(Ladies only)
Be tasteless, rude, and offensive,
(Now the men)
Live in a swamp and be three dimentional,
(Everybody)
Put a live chicken in your underwear,
Go into a closet and suck eggs.

I love this song. Whenever I hear someone spewing uninformed hate, I hum to myself "criticize things you don't know about....."

Let's get small!

Foolish comments from someone who says they've never even seen the show. It's funny and well written.

ENK727, well put. Sounds like a whole bunch of "I hate that show but I can't take my eyes off of it". Promiscuous men are... well, just being men, but promiscuous women are sluts. Nice. Who would the male sluts sleep with if there weren't any female sluts, prostitutes? Way cheaper this way, don't you think.

Hutton is right. "Sex and the City" was nothing more than a glossier, younger version of "The Golden Girls," another sitcom fantasy in which gay men were played by a quartet of women.

I'm male and I thought the same thing. "Desperate Housewives" and this corny show have brainwashed women into thinking being whores with no vagina walls is some sort of equalizer. The problem with men being sluts is that this society encourages it as the definition of "manhood". For the longest time, the saving grace was that most women were respectable and classier. But the only tangible lessons women learn now is how to gain all the accouterments they can and hold a cell phone to their head as they scheme ways to "out-whore" the men, like these shows depict. Enter Lindsay, Britney, Nicole, and minions.

Absolutely typical coming from a male...another point for hating the men in this country

Another point for hating the women here too.

Don't worry, robXdion, there are still women who are respectable and classy. They're just not as easy to find.

I agree, there is still a double standard and I'm saddened that so many women seem to believe equality means behaving like dogs.

Women certainly enjoy sex, but that doesn't mean they have to throw standards and restraint to the wind. That can be damaging to their physical and emotional health, but certainly their choice.

There was no reason for the other posters to attack you for your opinion.

She'll get ten million dollars worth of media coverage on this one. Beautiful.

There are plenty of rumors of her sexual escapades around New York. Why is it stars so often insist on using their platform to spew crap that mostly applies to themselves?
