McCain Declares Mosul "Quiet" On Same Day As Three Suicide Attacks (Video)

Speaking about Iraq at a townhall event on Thursday evening in Greensdale, Wisconsin, Sen. John McCain declared, "I can tell you that it is succeeding. I can look you in the eye and tell you it's succeeding. We have drawn down to pre-surge levels. Basra, Mosul and now Sadr city are quiet and it's long and it's hard and it's tough and there will be setbacks..." (Video is below.)

McCain was wrong on two points. First, U.S. forces have not returned to pre-surge levels. Before the surge, there were 130,000 troops in Iraq; even if the scheduled troop reductions are carried out as planned, there will still be 140,000 troops in Iraq in August.

Moreover, McCain's claim that Mosul is "quiet" was disproved earlier today in grim fashion. Three suicide bombings -- two in Mosul and another in a surrounding town -- left 30 Iraqis dead and more than two dozen injured, according to press reports.

Clearly, McCain's various congressional trips to Iraq haven't made him infallible on the issue.

McCain is so out of touch it is not funny. However, the news media will likely not report on his gaffes. Now if Obama would have made such gaffes everyone would be speaking of them. There are different standards for Democrats and Republicans. Republicans are allowed so much leeway.

i used to have the highest respect for John MCcain,he was one of the only republicans i ever liked,but since 2000 when he let bush walk allover him then when george kissed him on the forehead in 04 and to see him using so much of this presidents rhetoric and B.S. it just makes me sick...im a white man from a military family from the reddest of states,i voted for him in the Indiana primary last month and i cant wait to vote for Obama for president...out with the old!...AND TRIALS FOR ALL WAR CRIMINALS ...NO MATTER WHAT COUNTRY THEY MAY LIVE IN!

I think McCain is in the very early stages of alzheimers along with his elfin pal Lieberman; the gruesome twosome....they are pledged to Israel and don't know or care how many Americans or iraquis die . McCain has some trouble speaking and Joe whispers in his ear, but Joe is a little short of a full deck himself. We need some sanity here or I'm going to have to start taking meds!

This is a lie. Or, if it true that McC is misinformed, then he needs to be called out on it and this so-called "expert" on foreign affairs needs to go back and study more before he's allowed to simply throw out "facts" that are not true. I would expect the O camp tomorrow to pounce on this as yet another reason this guy is out of touch with reality.
