In this June 1, 2007 file photo, Rev. Michael Pfleger, left, of Saint Sabina Catholic Church is seen with Rev. Jesse Jackson during a news conference at Rainbow/Push Coalition headquarters in Chicago. Pfleger apologized Thursday, May 29, 2008, for the sermon given Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ, during which he said Clinton cried in January because she felt "entitled" to the Democratic nomination and that a "black man is stealing my show." CHICAGO — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Thursday that he was "deeply disappointed" by a supporter's sermon at his church that mocked Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The Rev. Michael Pfleger, a Chicago activist, also apologized for last Sunday's sermon at Obama's church, in which he said Clinton's eyes welled with tears before the New Hampshire primary because she felt "entitled" to the Democratic nomination and because "there's a black man stealing my show."

In video circulating on the Internet, Pfleger said the former first lady expected to win the nomination before Obama's sudden popularity.

"She just always thought that, 'This is mine. I'm Bill's wife. I'm white.' ... And then, out of nowhere, came 'Hey, I'm Barack Obama." And she said, 'Oh damn, where did you come from? I'm white. I'm entitled. There's a black man stealing my show,'" Pfleger said at Trinity United Church of Christ.

He then went on to parody Clinton, sobbing and wiping his face with a handkerchief.

"She wasn't the only one crying," he said. "There was a whole lot of white people crying."

Obama won the Iowa caucuses, the first contest of the nominating season, in January. Days later, Clinton's eyes brimmed with tears and her voice broke as she talked with New Hampshire voters on the eve of the primary, which she won.

Obama said he was "deeply disappointed" by Pfleger's comments.

"As I have traveled this country, I've been impressed not by what divides us, but by all that that unites us," he said in a statement. "That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric, which doesn't reflect the country I see or the desire of people across America to come together in common cause."

Pfleger, the white pastor of predominantly black Saint Sabina Roman Catholic Church on the city's Southwest side, said he regretted his choice of words.

"These words are inconsistent with Senator Obama's life and message and I am deeply sorry if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them," Pfleger said.

Clinton's campaign denounced Pfleger's comments.

"Divisive and hateful language like that is totally counterproductive in our efforts to bring our party together and have no place at the pulpit or in our politics," the campaign said in a statement. "We are disappointed that Senator Obama didn't specifically reject Father's Pfleger's despicable comments about Senator Clinton, and assume he will do so."

In March, Pfleger invited Obama's embattled former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, to speak at Saint Sabina, embracing Wright in the church.

Obama recently broke with Wright, who had been his longtime pastor, after video of his sermons blaming U.S. policies for the Sept. 11 attacks and his calls of "God damn America" became fixtures on the Internet and cable news networks and created a political problem for the candidate.

Pfleger, known locally as a community activist and organizer, was arrested in June 2007 with the Rev. Jesse Jackson during a protest outside of a south suburban Chicago gun shop. The criminal trespass charges were later dropped.

He also has hosted Louis Farrakhan, the controversial leader of the Nation of Islam, at St. Sabina and has called him "a gift from God to a sick, sick world."

I don't Sen. Obama should apologize for anything. I'm still waiting for the assassination apology along with many others.

Hillary: If the truth hearts, don't cry about it........... just say ouch!

Me too! She and her minions said that she doesn't owe him an apology. Yet, they want him to apologize for Father Pfleger.

He did apologize and her camp said it wasn't enough. She's precious

Now keep in mind he is a Catholic priest speaking as a guest at Obama's church. Does that mean all Catholics should apologize to HillBilly???

Also, Letterman, Leno, Conan, SNL probably need to start apologizing. And I laugh, so I guess I'm guilty too. Sorry

Geeeez, how touchy!

No, but a standing O for comments like that are what is most troubling.

I dont think you read my whole post. This priest was being a comedian. It's no different than what we all see and laugh at on late night TV.

Really, HillBilly herself has poked fun at Obama.

1. Why does this headline say "Obama Pastor"... He is not his pastor. It is just not true. I guess those of us who hold some hope that HuffPo might give us the truth are fools.
2. There is not one thing that this minister said that has not been said by literally MILLIONS of other American people.

Maybe Father Michael is channeling a black civil rights leader who has passed over - since so many people are claiming he is racist - did they happen to notice he is WHITE???

Thank you. I have said this over and over until my face has turned red. An anchor on MSNBC said that last night. He said a white man making fun of whitey. Then he laughed.

This is hilarious. "A white man making fun of whitey"...this came from a white guy on MSNBC. I loved it. It's amazing that poor little Hillary and her minions don't feel that Obama's statement was sincere when he said that he was against what this pastor said. However, this isn't Obama's minister Especially when this witch made the assassination comment and NEVER apologized to Obama. Hillary is a joke. She is becoming desperate and is using I am a woman to play victim and it upsets me, because I am a woman. I am also ashamed to be a GOP member, because they like the Clinton's are really taking this racist crap to far.

To both Corporate Democrats or Republicans, Barack Obama has been a Muslim, then a mainline Protestant Christian, and now Obama's Pastor is a Roman Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Pretty soon, Obama will be responsible for all errant popes in history.

This is neocon tit for tat for Parsley and Hagee hand blown in that proportion by Murdoch's FOX

Does anyone have any information how this story made its way onto Fox news? I suspect a line from some propaganda machine like the Heritage Foundation to a blog or small newspaper or Youtube and then picked up by Fox from a friendly tip. Past history is all that is guiding my hunch, but maybe someone can put some meat on the bones who is good at such searches.

I think we can all thank the good work of Larry Johnson at his blogsite called "No Quarter", he is a ex-CIA agent and is active in Gov't as a private contracter. He briefs Gov't employees about National Security issues, like Senators, Congressmen etc. His site has all the real stories about Obama and his connection to people like Nadhmi Auchi, Tony Rezko and the rest of his friends.

Why wouldn't we think that this idiotic video get out? AND IT WAS DONE LAST WEEK! I'm a huge Obama supporter, but this kind of clownish, offensive and over-the-top on his behalf is doing his campaign NO good. The campaign is going to need all those Clinton supporters and anyone who thinks that this kind of divisive, mocking crap isn't going to hurt is simply blind to reality. Can you imagine the outcry if someone within the Clinton camp had done the same thing to Barack?

My point is not whether Sen Obama's character is in question or an opposing candidate's camp is trying to undermine him. It is about manipulation of the media. This exposure of Father Pfleger(not pastor as appears in headlines--get the Rev Wright connection?) smells of the work of a concerted efforts by the Mellon-Scaifes of the world to bring a small incident and blow it up into something it isn't. It was bad behavior by an individual not an important part of Sen Obama's resume. The trail leading to its present prominence could be quite revealing. I guess I'll have to turn it over to Media Matters to see if they can investigate this.

Where are the MSM priorities when it comes to news stories? ........... Does this GUILT BY ASSOCIATION STORY warrant 24/7 news coverage?

Michael Pfleger is NOT Obama's priest, NOR was Obama in the church when the "sermon" was preached, NOR did Obama put the words in his mouth.

Hillary DID NOT APOLOGIZE to Obama for calling him ELITIST (code word for UPPITY N-WORD), neither did she apologize to Obama for the ASSASSINATION INFERENCE.......... WORDS FROM HER OWN MOUTH.

Hillary DID NOT APOLOGIZE to Obama when Carville claimed that Obama needs to take Hillary's spare COJONES, and she DID NOT APOLOGIZE to Obama when she and Bill continually played the RACE CARD in order to get the WHITE vote.

Yet Hillary and her surrogates have DEMANDED AN APOLOGY from Obama for what Pfleger said, and what Pfleger has ALREADY APOLOGIZED FOR.

Obama DID NOT say those things, so he has NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR.

IN FACT PFLEGER DID NOT SAY ANYTHING THAT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN THE USA, AS WELL AS PERSONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD HAVE NOT SAID ALREADY ................ "HILLARY, DOES BELIEVE THAT SHE IS ENTITLED TO BE PRESIDENT" ......... "SHE DOES THINK THAT IT'S HER GOD-GIVEN RIGHT TO LIVE IN THE WHITE HOUSE" .......... OBAMA JUST OUT CAMPAIGNED HER.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:46 PM on 05/30/2008

Isn't it ironic that they are DEMANDING an apology from Obama to Clinton, BUT she has YET to apologize for the assassination insinuations? Only a Clinton can demand so much without putting anything out. That's classic.

He is absolutely right, Scott MCcellan's book may be part of a future history book and Mica wants to focus on this silly stuff. She's beginning to remind me of Fox and Friends.

It would be pointless. Why is it important for EVERYONE to gang up on Obama, all the while McCain is still dealing with Bush, Liberman and Hagee...Clinton has made racist comments, played the victim, tried changing the rules, the assassination comment, etc. However, it just appears that nothing is as important unless it's about the darker candidate. I can't wait until this farce of an election is over with.

Don't really have to go looking. Seems Obama's pastors enjoy the publicity.and a chance to tell us all what they think of America and white people.

Republicans must be quite pleased right now.

I think a lot of Pastors enjoy publicity; not just ones (loosely) associated with Obama.
And, from what I've read, this pastor is quite big on community service and has done a lot of great things and raised a lot of money for poor people.
Of course, we'll never hear that anywhere. We'll just keep seeing this silly stand-up routine over and over and over and.......

Come on! Do we honestly believe this is a coincident. This latest performance by Father Pfleger by now should come as a surprise by even the most politically ignorant uneducated voter. Thist was planned all along. It should be obvious he's a paid Clinton surrogate and supporter just like Rev. Wright. These folks are from Chicago, they've been in the political loop long enough to know what's happenening and what works. Rev. Wright presided over Bill Clinton's scandal prayer breakfast at the White House and Father Pfleger who just so happen to be Catholic (we all know the Catholics are supporting Hillary), and they both just so happen to come out right before an election. Come on! This was not a coincidence. This show was planned and the media knows it. They may have had something to do with it. Fox and CNN are devoted Hillary supporter's. Which is ok, but don't play the viewers as stupid.

As a presumptive Obama supporter, it saddens me when I read things like this. Sen. Clinton is a good and honorable public servant and Democrat, who will work for Obama in the GE, who has waged a campaign that just never was able to overcome the poison that has saturated this contest. It never ceases to amaze me how nuts like you spin every negative that hurts Obama into a "Clinton conspiracy." But it has ever been the case. People who hate Clinton REALLY hate her and there's no amount of counseling and medication that can put a dent it that.

For the record, I have supported Sen. Clinton to date, but I don't believe there's a chance she'll get the nomination. Actually, I'm starting to think it would be better if she didn't, but that's mainly because you and your psycho look-alikes have succeeded in inducing a national hysteria that has consumed any good she had a chance of doing. Therefore, I will presumably be switching my support to Sen. Obama next Wednesday. I do not blame Sen. Obama for this priest's remarks and know that the news of them must have, well, deeply disappointed Sen. Obama. I wish these reverends would just shut up. And I really wish we, as a nation, would grow up and stop mixing up politics and religion.

Nutty post pal.

I will agree with one thing you have pointed out. These two rotten excuses for friends and mentors surely knew exactly what they were doing and were looking for a little fame and notoriety.

Getting to the point where you start demonizing any of the candidates is probably a good time to get some fresh air. They are all just human beings with, ambitions, fears and feelings. Your opposition is not the spawn of hell and if you think so then you are too young or screwed up to be voting.

MSNBC doing a good job to make a huge deal out of this situation by saturating every hour with the pastor issue but wouldn't dare run it in reruns and loops about Hagee.

What this guy said was hilarious. It's 100% true too. But he said he was sorry all parties separated from it. But Hagee makes atrocious remarks about Jews and Hitler, and Hillary invokes assassination talk and protesting the RBC and yet we are talking about this pastor. I have said this before that I am not in to racism claims, but I am having a hard time seeing how this is not media racism. It's okay to pick apart everything the black guy says, and scrutinize everyone around him or barely associated with him, but lets leave these white people with far more serious baggage alone.

This is just freakin hilarious! You democrats have played the race card so many times, in so many situations that you are nearly paralized by it. You think that conservatives and working class democrats give a damn if you play the race card, they don't.

And you are going to lose an election because while trying to use the race card for leverage to get him through the primary, you've managed to piss off the very same ignorant, white racists you need to get him elected.
