In this June 1, 2007 file photo, Rev. Michael Pfleger, left, of Saint Sabina Catholic Church is seen with Rev. Jesse Jackson during a news conference at Rainbow/Push Coalition headquarters in Chicago. Pfleger apologized Thursday, May 29, 2008, for the sermon given Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ, during which he said Clinton cried in January because she felt "entitled" to the Democratic nomination and that a "black man is stealing my show." CHICAGO — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Thursday that he was "deeply disappointed" by a supporter's sermon at his church that mocked Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The Rev. Michael Pfleger, a Chicago activist, also apologized for last Sunday's sermon at Obama's church, in which he said Clinton's eyes welled with tears before the New Hampshire primary because she felt "entitled" to the Democratic nomination and because "there's a black man stealing my show."

In video circulating on the Internet, Pfleger said the former first lady expected to win the nomination before Obama's sudden popularity.

"She just always thought that, 'This is mine. I'm Bill's wife. I'm white.' ... And then, out of nowhere, came 'Hey, I'm Barack Obama." And she said, 'Oh damn, where did you come from? I'm white. I'm entitled. There's a black man stealing my show,'" Pfleger said at Trinity United Church of Christ.

He then went on to parody Clinton, sobbing and wiping his face with a handkerchief.

"She wasn't the only one crying," he said. "There was a whole lot of white people crying."

Obama won the Iowa caucuses, the first contest of the nominating season, in January. Days later, Clinton's eyes brimmed with tears and her voice broke as she talked with New Hampshire voters on the eve of the primary, which she won.

Obama said he was "deeply disappointed" by Pfleger's comments.

"As I have traveled this country, I've been impressed not by what divides us, but by all that that unites us," he said in a statement. "That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric, which doesn't reflect the country I see or the desire of people across America to come together in common cause."

Pfleger, the white pastor of predominantly black Saint Sabina Roman Catholic Church on the city's Southwest side, said he regretted his choice of words.

"These words are inconsistent with Senator Obama's life and message and I am deeply sorry if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them," Pfleger said.

Clinton's campaign denounced Pfleger's comments.

"Divisive and hateful language like that is totally counterproductive in our efforts to bring our party together and have no place at the pulpit or in our politics," the campaign said in a statement. "We are disappointed that Senator Obama didn't specifically reject Father's Pfleger's despicable comments about Senator Clinton, and assume he will do so."

In March, Pfleger invited Obama's embattled former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, to speak at Saint Sabina, embracing Wright in the church.

Obama recently broke with Wright, who had been his longtime pastor, after video of his sermons blaming U.S. policies for the Sept. 11 attacks and his calls of "God damn America" became fixtures on the Internet and cable news networks and created a political problem for the candidate.

Pfleger, known locally as a community activist and organizer, was arrested in June 2007 with the Rev. Jesse Jackson during a protest outside of a south suburban Chicago gun shop. The criminal trespass charges were later dropped.

He also has hosted Louis Farrakhan, the controversial leader of the Nation of Islam, at St. Sabina and has called him "a gift from God to a sick, sick world."

I want to know about Hillary's pastor, if she has one. Who is he? How long has she been listening to him? What does he say and how often does he say it?

I',m "SURE" Obama's team has been digging, and have come up empty.

Even the press, I'm sure, has been doing their share of digging, as they are ALSO in the tank for Obama, but, to their dismay, have found nothing to counter punch with.

you may want to go back a few months for that info. hills former pastor was brought up on charges of sexually molesting a child.

This former pastor story pertaining to Senator Clinton was falsely represented by a newspaper. Senator Clinton's church is considered The Family. It's very secretive and private and you will not hear about it unless she wins the nomination. Then Sean Hannity will turn on her and demonize her church as well.

I don't get it. I don't get the judgement. I think all of this is so stupid. I just can't judge a person by what their minister says. I go to church to hear and understand the word of God. If politics is discussed from the pulpit it bothers me because I still believe in "Rendor what is Ceasar what is Ceasar's and to God what is Gods" When you are in church, you are on "God time". I do understand that sometimes you have to use events that occur in everyday life as lessons of understanding, but you have to be careful when you do that.

I do believe that Sen. Clinton felt she would win the nomination, hands down, over the other candidates and that she may have done it had it not been for Obama announcing his candidacy and running against her. She would have secured most of the minority vote as well as the women's vote. I fully intended to vote for her. I don't think it's what you say, but the way you say it. I don't think the statement was divisive. It just could have been put in better context.

Politics is a breeding ground for immoral behavior thus the clergy are mandated to address it and to minister to their flock concerning it. I do not know your religious background but Pflegler is in step with mine. Church is not a place where the outside world magically fades away. In fact, church is the place where you come in out of the cold to be warmed by Godly analysis of what the cold actually is such that when you return to the cold you have a spiritual layer of protection against a deadly chill.

Churches address immoral behavior, not politics. When they do they have crossed line between church and state. What church do you belong to that also thinks it's appropriate to advocate or ridicule political candidates, white people and our country from the pulpit?

The reason America is fascinated with this church and the clips play endlessly on the news is because it is an aberration. Not something to be admired.

Churches are places to worship, not preach politics. If you insist on both, then be prepared to have churches' tax-exempt status removed. Enough is enough.

WILL HILLARY DENOUNCE THE WORDS OF PRO-HILLARY PASTER, THE REVEREND JAMES DAVID MANNING OF HARLEM who said about Obama

"His African-in-heat father went a-whoring after a trashy white woman. He was born trash. I said he was born trash. I didn't trash him. I'm speaking the truth about him. Now, once again, I am a diplomat, but I'm not a compromiser. I got a word in my mouth! I said I got the Word of God in my mouth, and God's not afraid of Obama or anybody else or Ted Kennedy or that little Caroline or anybody else!"

Why does this have to always be a "YEAH BUT WHAT ABOUT HRC"???

WHy do you bots have such a hard time with the article or thread at hand? It's not even about Obama or Hillary, it's about an idiotic preacher who is way out of line.

Ps. the minister you speak of, never was a member of HRCs team and HRC never called him one of her spiritual mentors.

The article or thread at hand is dealing with the words of a minister who told the truth about HRC. So, it is quite natural to assume that people will attempt to put the template of the minister's words over that person you refer to as HRC.

Only the foolish buy into deflection finding origin in not-so-hidden agenda.

Why haven’t you rejected and denounced Bill Clinton? Rev. Wright isn’t married to Obama nor was he ever president. Bill Clinton was indicted, impeached, and disbarred.

I know I would love to have a conversation about Rev. Wright, but he wasn’t on the ballot in my state.

From there I'll pick my beautiful daughter up from day care, take her to the park, Drop her off at my parents house, then me and my wife will be having dinner at the Salt Rock Grill on Indian Rocks beach. What a unhappy and suicidal life I have... LOFL.

Anywho, it seems you have some type of obsession with me, maybe it's the kool aid, or just a delusional personality disorder, either way it's not healthy.

I say it again because you seem to lack some basic comprehension skills. This isn't about Obama or HRC, not matter how much you attempt to make it such. I'm talking about speaking out against those words of the two so-called men of god. IF it was HRC's church or her pastor, then I would be just as outraged and I would post such. I just don't see why you can't admit that those words are devisive and disgusting. Why is that so hard Tiff?

The title of this story needs to be changed. He is NOT Obama's pastor. He was a visiting pastor, invited to speak at the church. Why, I hardly know. But, it has nothing to do with Obama!

I don't understand people who are that stupid as the pastor seems to be or the Father, I should say.
Does he not read or keep up with the news? Does he not know not to stick his hand into a beehive.

The more important question is how is a nation going to shake off the flea infestation of hatred and divide that is eating away at its coat of protection and its meat of existence. That seems more the question than that flimsy question you put forth whose origins are suspect and despicable at best.

Actually Father Pflager is a Priest and a visitor at the church, Obama won't have a problem with this. It's only encourages those that were not going to vote for him in the first place.

Nothing tricky about it.

I am Hispanic and I agree with most everything that the Priest had to say. I know many Hispanics that have said the same things.

I think the outrage comes from some white people who think they know SO, SO much about black and brown people and their community. How many times have you heard a person on noncolor tell you what people of color think?

Is like they're experts in what goes on in the black and brown communities but NEVER lived or NEVER visited them.

They are outraged because they realized that they do not know everything.

I guess you don’t know as much as you think.

You know the truth hurst you don't it! LOL

While the rest of the world sits and kvetches about the sad state of the world, Michael Pfleger is out there making it a better place, block by block by block.

He has confronted Catholic churches and Chicago institutions over their systemic racism.

He has encouraged people in his community to open their homes to children and has adopted three children himself in order to be the change he wishes to inspire.

He has organized and raised funding for aids houses for the sick, Samaritan house which provides free housing for a year while occupants receive job training and support in order that they become self sufficient and contributing members of the community.

He has opened youth centers to get kids off the street.

He has battled corporations and stores who target his poor black community as a place to dump their cheap drug and alcohol garbage.

He runs a social service center that provides 1200 people a month with food, clothing, and counseling.

He runs hot lines for kids trying to leave gangs.

He runs a senior center, a community center, an outreach program for other faiths.

That's just part of what Michael Pfleger does.

The Chicago Archdiocese has tried to remove him from his parish a few times but the love and devotion of the people he serves continues to fight for his presence, and so he stays and continues working.

We should be trying to clone this guy.

Read the bible for your answer. It is full of stories of Godly people speaking truth to power. If he fails (Obama) do not blame Trinity, but the society that deludes itself to think that what has been heard from Trinity (even in snippet form) does not contain a modicum of truth. This is not about Obama he is nothing more than a man. This is about us and who we are as a nation. Any other analysis is a gross misunderstanding of what is at stake; and in your slumber, I pray you not be awakened suddenly and tragically that this is no time for sleeping on old pillows of malformed and delusional logic.

What the Priest said is NOT an issue and is, in fact, precise. However, he had NO business saying those things from the pulpit.

Still, this has little to do with Obama directly and certainly pales when considering Clinton's assassination comment.

It is terribly ironic that you are going on and on about how white people shouldn't be held accountable for the actions of other white people but you seem to think that Obama should be responsible for the words of Father Pfleger, Rev Wright and every one else he has ever met.

Just because you are not personally responsible for the acts of discrimination against black people in this country in the past and present doesn't mean that you shouldn't understand the anger that those acts have created. Just as Obama stated in his speech in Philadelphia that we all need to understand the anger of many white people who feel that they were disadvantaged by things like Affirmative Action etc.

That being said, have you ever worked where this man works? have you ever seen what this man has seen? Maybe you should before you judge.

This is being drummed up again by a hyper-sensitive media. Even this post's headline is wrong. Pfleger is not Obama's pastor. This is absurd. Read more at Blog of a Thin Man.

Obama has known this guy for close to 20 years.
This guy was part of Obama's campain until very recently: http://tinyurl.com/6bwefm
According to CBS, he was advising Obama around the time of the Wright Controversy:

Watch how the members of the congregation, a congregation Obama sat in for 20 years and continue to defend, watch how they are cheering Pfleger as he spews his diatribes!

SO WHAT!!! The priest worked with Obama as they fed, clothed, housed and got employment for the people in the community. How much have you done to feed the poor? You are Troll looking for any excuse to denigrate Obama. Plus you don't have clue about what it means to be a community organizer. You work with all kinds of people. Idiot.

The Barry cultist would back him even if he got an endorsement from and campaigned with David Duke. You are not going to a kool-aid infected mind easily .

Father Mike was the go-between for Obama with Rev. Wright. With the help of David Alexrod they came up with that scam for Obama to diss Wright and get some of his white votes back. Obama loves these two men of the cloth, their hate speech fits with Obama's views.

Did you READ the links you put on your http://cbs2chicago.com/politics/obama.jeremiah.wright.2.711811.html1811.html Shows that he was the "between" for Wright and Obama, not that he was working for Obama. The other BS link has a whole lot of people including the mention of Pfleger and his work. You are not doing yourself any favor by portraying yourself as a smart HRC supporter. You must do better than that.
