Dunkin Donuts

Wednesday night on "Countdown," Keith Olbermann declared Dunkin' Donuts his "Worst Person in the World" for caving to the lunatic fringe and pulling an ad featuring Rachael Ray wearing a scarf that the far-right thought was too Arab looking.

"They were as weak of their decaf," Olbermann said of the donut and coffee company, and proposed a boycott of the company:

How about this? How about the rest of us boycott Dunkin' Donuts for giving into fascists like Michelle Malkin? And for giving weight to perhaps the most absurd idea the lunatic fringers have ever belched forth: that there are terrorist scarves! Terrorist scarves! Dunkin Donuts: time to stop buying the donuts.

Watch, and be sure to notice 1:05 in when, in reference to Time critic James Poniewozik's critique of him, Olbermann says (of Joe Lieberman), "I'd lapse into self-parody here, Senator, and mock you, but obviously you're doing too good a job mocking yourself."

SHE CAN'T EVEN COOK

WHAT THE HELL IS YUM-O?!?!

Huh? Rachel Ray didn't pull commercial; she was IN the commercial. Dunkin' Donuts pulled the commercial.

If you just wanted to take a gratuitous shot at Rachel Ray, fine, but I don't quite get your anger or venom. I don't watch her show or buy her books, but based on the interviews I've seen of her and what I have read about her, she seems to be a perfectly decent and kind person. Who cares about her little catch-phrases? Don't watch her show and move on.

Dunkin Donuts Sucks.

I hear Osama Bin Laden eats Dunkin Donuts.

Don't want anyone to misconstrue my eating their donuts for me supporting Osama.
Hmmm... better not eat any of their donuts ever again.

In a capitalist society we vote with our dollars.
Every day.

If we voted with our dollars more in line with our values we might eventually buy the future we desire.

But we have a fatal disease called the "gottahaveitrightnowcheaps".
So we are buying a bright and profitable future for China,

We are paying the cable companies to tell us sweet little lies.
We are paying the automakers and oil companies to keep us enslaved in 19th century technology.
We are paying so called "defense contractors" for Amerikan fascism and global bad-will.

Dunkin do-nots is just a symptom of a much larger problem.
The extreme rightwing (being business savvy) have injected fear into the business community (thru boycotts etc.)

RECEIVING much greater blowback from the "anti-right" is the cure.

When DD sees their caving in to the rightwing ultimately affecting the bottom line they will modify behavior. And believe me that other businesses will have noticed, Think Winchell's would make the same blunder?

Want Fox to go away? - turn off, cancel your cable conditionally, boycott their sponsors, ultimately you will starve their lifeblood, and you will see fox no more, or very different fox.

Do I think Americans are capable of doing the hard things necessary to effect change?
Maybe but frankly I think we've gotten pretty spoiled so:
Wo hui hsua chong-guo hua ( trans: I have already learned Chinese)

The "American Dream" is FREEDOM not a mansion and a Humvee.

good luck ya'll

I don't have any Drunken Donuts close by to boycott - but if there was one close by ... ah heck, I'd still buy their coffee - who am i kidding ...

I suppose I could boycott DD.
But, seeing how I have gone there maybe twice in my life, I don't think it means much.

obviously the Dunkin Donuts scarf is a covert signal that allows the water torturing of its product. DD should be ashamed

I agree with Keith. To succumb to some idiots that are equating her wearing that scarf to terroism is preposterous and extremely whimpy. I had started buying my coffee at Dunkin Donuts, but no more. Until they stop this appeasement of the far right, I refuse to drink the kool-aid (whoops, sorry, coffee)

When businesses follow the dictates of the lunatic fringe, one can only wonder if that business views all their customers as as stupid as those of the lunatic fringe.

So Kieth,You want Duncan Donuts to go broke and their employees to lose their jobs, because why? They didn't run a ad you wanted. Ever occur to you and your PC crowd that the ad didn't test well.As in, wasn't going to sell coffee. A BUSINESS decision, not a political one. GROW UP!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:21 PM on 05/30/2008

First of all, it's Keith. Second, he was supporting a boycott to show Duncan Donuts to make the point that it is patently absurd that a large company would allow such a ridiculous complaint affect their business operations. THEY were scared of a boycott being caused by idiots like you who are not only crazy, but a few old fashioned glazed short of a bakers dozen. If the ad didn't test well, they would cite that as the reason over this PR nightmare. So browndog2, it is you that needs to GROW UP. Duncan donuts coffee sucks anyway.

Dunkin Doughnuts should have done NOTHING.

Can the vast majority of Americans start speaking up and bring some normalcy and moderation to the public debate? Can we please start shaming the idiots that want to lower our collective IQ and move our culture backwards? Call Dunkin Donuts as I did and let them no they were wrong to pull the ads: Dunkin' Brands Inc.
