Dunkin Donuts

Wednesday night on "Countdown," Keith Olbermann declared Dunkin' Donuts his "Worst Person in the World" for caving to the lunatic fringe and pulling an ad featuring Rachael Ray wearing a scarf that the far-right thought was too Arab looking.

"They were as weak of their decaf," Olbermann said of the donut and coffee company, and proposed a boycott of the company:

How about this? How about the rest of us boycott Dunkin' Donuts for giving into fascists like Michelle Malkin? And for giving weight to perhaps the most absurd idea the lunatic fringers have ever belched forth: that there are terrorist scarves! Terrorist scarves! Dunkin Donuts: time to stop buying the donuts.

Watch, and be sure to notice 1:05 in when, in reference to Time critic James Poniewozik's critique of him, Olbermann says (of Joe Lieberman), "I'd lapse into self-parody here, Senator, and mock you, but obviously you're doing too good a job mocking yourself."

This is the best worst person in the world ever. Although Lieberman sure gives Dunkin a run for their money. Excuse me while I go buy a paisley terrorist scarf.

Thank god for Keith. I am not a customer of Dunkin Donuts but I will certainly not go into one if I have the chance. This is pretty scary when you think about it. If I were Rachel Ray I would remove myself from being a spokesperson for their sugary goodies.

The real reason Dunkin Donuts pulled the ad is because it contradicted a new product launch.

The Jesus Cruller - holier than thou.

If everyone who watched Keith's show boycotted Dunkin Doughnuts they would lose about $150.00 a year.

I hear Rush is going to start selling Dunkin Donuts on his show as "Natural Tail Enhancement."

I have to admit I'm torn here. Of course what Dunkin Donuts and Michelle Malkin did is both moronic and contemptible. So I suppose I should take a stand on principle.

On the other hand, anything that reduces the number of times I have to hear that nasally voice -- the closest thing to fingernails on a blackboard I've ever heard emanate from a human being's mouth -- is probably for the better. Too bad it's for all the wrong reasons.

I agree totally, Moose49. I know that Dunkin Donuts cave-in to the the lunatics on the right was pathetic, but I think I hate Rachel Ray just as much as that foaming-at-the-mouth kook Malkin. Is there any way to send them both off to a desert island somewhere?

As a side note, how does Malkin even get her face on TV? You gotta love Fox News--even the most batshit-crazy loon can be considered a "journalist" as long as they tow the company line. Unbelievable.

"Batshit-crazy loon?" How charmingly evocative. Yes, I will definately use that phrase, in it's proper context, next time i'm forced to explain Malkin, Coulter and their lot.

Oh yeah, she is a freak show. But then Fox is home to most of the batshit-crazy loons out there. Curious how it's MSNBC that gets hit for being ideological -- all for one brilliant commentator, KO -- yet Fox is somehow "fair and balanced."

I agree. If that's what it takes to get her off the air, I'm all for it. I think we should all make a point of visiting a local DD in THANKS1

DD ought to be ashamed of itself. We're put on this planet to enlighten others, not create prejudice againist other people. This boycott is easy for me: I don't drink coffee and I hate their donuts which are too expensive and on the tasteless side so count me in!

The religious right counts on people like Dunkin Donuts who cower at their very word. This is how they gain power. One has to think that this is how the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan. Boycott is the way to go.

As a working chef, i'd like it known that i'm perfectly at ease with the notion that Rachael Ray is single-mindedly determined to bring my beloved country to it's knees. Also, as someone with a deep appreciation for food, you'd never catch me at Dunkin Donuts anyway. Unless, of course, I needed a cop.

I don't really care about the scarf.
I haven't eaten in Dunkin Donuts since I saw that photograph, a few years ago, of the rats climbing all over the food.
UGH!!!

Now I see why the crowd here likes Olberman:
He is always pissed off. And not too bright.
"Fascist"? Brush up on your vocabulary.

Hey - cut us some slack. Even Homer Simpson wouldn't be eating at Dunkin Donuts nowadays!

Fascism is a belief that everything should be centered around a small government state.

From wikipedia: Fascism is a government, faction, movement, or political philosophy that raises nationalism, and frequently race, above the individual and is characterized by a centralized autocratic state governed by a dictatorial head, stringent organization of the economy and society, and aggressive repression of opposition.

Lets just take conservatism as a whole: "raises nationalism... above the individual" CHECK. "centralized autocratic state governed by a dictatorial head" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNo0_klKzis CHECK. "stringent organization of the economy and society" can you say fiscal and social conservatism coupled with a hard-on for a privatized 'free market'? CHECK. "aggressive repression of opposition"... "You're either with us, or you're with the terrorists" and I do believe a fear of speaking out against the government in a time of 'war' was considered un-American and virtually treasonous in the early years of this administration... so CHECK.

So in this case with DD, we've got a suppression of free speech and free media in the name of patriotism and nationalism.

I rest my case.

Question:

If you eat a Dunkin doNUT while wearing a scarf, does it embolden the enemy? This is serious business. I am sure all of our emboldened enemies are paying close attention to this issue.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:49 AM on 05/30/2008

Of course it does. It sends subliminal messages to Al-Qaeda telling them that we're anti-American Americans and that we're ready to embrace Jihad.

Remember when people were boycotting french fries because France (like the rest of the world) was against us invading Iraq? We shore showed them Frenches.

Thanks for the laugh. I can see a bunch of so called terrorists sitting about the television waiting for Rachel Ray to appear with the "scarf" signaling it's on. How moronic do these people think we the public are?

To the execs at the "worst" doNUT of the world:

So what if it was Arab anyway??? So what?!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:36 AM on 05/30/2008

Hurray for Keith! We have a bakery here in town that actually makes REAL donuts, compared to Dunkin anyway which seem to contain sawdust.
