Bob Dole Tells McClellan: You're A "Miserable Creature...Spurred On By Greed"

Bob Dole yesterday sent a scalding email to Scott McClellan, excoriating the former White House spokesman as a "miserable creature" who greedily betrayed his former patron for a fast buck.

In an extraordinary message obtained and authenticated by Politico, Dole uses his trademark biting wit to portray McClellan as a classic Washington opportunist.

"There are miserable creatures like you in every administration who don't have the guts to speak up or quit if there are disagreements with the boss or colleagues," Dole wrote in a message sent yesterday morning. "No, your type soaks up the benefits of power, revels in the limelight for years, then quits, and spurred on by greed, cashes in with a scathing critique."

Michael Marshall, Dole's spokesman and colleague at the Alston Bird law firm, confirms the message came from the former senator and presidential candidate. "Yes, it is authentic," Marshall wrote in an email.

I for one think the families that have lost loved ones and the soldiers that have been horribly injured have a right to know that their suffering was caused by heartless disregard by the Bush administration for the real cost of this war. Maybe it won't be so easy to go to war in the future.

Sorry Mr. Dole, he was a friend, whose trust was betrayed, was lied to and rolled under a bus before the international press, before being kicked out of the door. See how life is a matter of perspective? He did not benefit from power he was beat down by the Cheney Express and sent packing by Mr. Bush who more than likely wanted him to take one for the team. Some team. And now 4,000 lives later the finger should of course point to McClellan and not the team. Should he have spoken up earlier? Yes. However, when one is betrayed by a friend with such a deep cut, expect mental and emotional paralysis of disbelief. The idea of being part of an administration that will shutter through the history of the American Presidency forever, is numbing.

Mr. Bush says that he won't read McClellan's book, Mr. Dole won't read it, who else hasn't or won't read it before attacking McClellan so wholeheartedly?

Good grief! Read the book before criticizing the man who wrote it. Nobody has said that McClellan is not telling the truth. Rather they are all piling on like adolescents without having at least read what was written.

I think they are most angry at him for being disloyal to the regime.
I suspect that some of them envy him at some deep level for doing what they don't have the courage to do. They don't hate him for telling the truth, they hate him because it is the truth, and his telling it makes them all look bad. They can't counter it with anything but the same old ad hominem attacks and character assassination they use on all of their enemies.
Scott could've kept his mouth shut and still had a very lucrative career using the contacts he made within the party. I don't think they are jealous of the money he's going to make, it's the way he's making it that bothers them.
