The BBC reported last night that an uncontacted tribe had been discovered on the border between Brazil and Peru.

According to the Guardian, there are around 100 uncontacted tribes in the world. "Survival International estimates more than half are in the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon."

The National Indian Foundation, a government agency in Brazil, took these photos and published them Thursday. According to CNN, "it tracks "uncontacted tribes" -- indigenous groups that are thought to have had no contact with outsiders -- and seeks to protect them from encroachment.

They and their relatives apparently live in six communal shelters known as malocas, according to the government, which has tracked at least four uncontacted groups in the region for the last 20 years.

The photos were taken during 20 hours of flights conducted between April 28 and May 2.

Sadly, soon we'll see a documentary about them and the kids will be wearing Jose Cuervo T-shirts. Too bad they were "discovered".

I'm certain that there are a large number of amazing things in the Amazon! The Brazilian government has had a decent policy, in general, (if you can stomach the corruption and collusion between government, loggers, and farmers) in trying to keep these tribal groups less infected with the so called modern world. Let's hope these people have a chance!

If they are a new tribe, leave them alone and in peace or before you know they will be inundated by missionaries who think they need to convert them to their idiotic/ religion/mythology/ and destroy their way of life and traditions just as they have done all through history to those who didn't believe in the sky daddy and his zombie son

They're not a "lost tribe." I'm sure they knew where they were the whole time.

Im not saying I think it is, or is not. But there is a push to stop the rape of the rain forest in that area.
What if someone "found" a lost tribe and was able to use them as a way to stop the logging? Just a thought.
One thing I did find funny is the so called "expert" on CNN was saying these are all men. But when they showed the close up of the video, on 2 different occasions none the less, the one in black have breast.
But who am I to argue with an "expert"

If this is a lost tribe, they better run like hell, because within 6 months they will be exploited by marketing and advertising morons to promote all sorts of products. They will be probed and prodded more than if aliens had landed and done it, and with in 1 year, maybe will have died out because they have never been exposed to most disease that we live with every day. The rest will be brainwashed by the best Ivy Greed University trained people and will soon be killing other local tribes so they can profit from whatever they can steal from them and whatever they can sell the bodies for. After all, its the American way!

I wish I could disagree with you, loki, but unfortunately we, self ethnocentred westerners from industrialized nations, think that our way of life and consumerist culture is the only one bringing happiness.

When what it brings is a thirst to buy useless crap, then waste it as soon as we've realized that the last technological device available on the market hasn't brought the spiritual fulfillment it was advertized for and supposed to do according to its producers.

Considering the world around us, greed seems to be the one feature that put us in control of our planet. So I'll be as pessimistic as you are concerning the poor future of this bunch of dudes and the preservation of their culture.

Having travelled through the rain forest areas of Brasil, Peru, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, I can only agree with loki. To me, the most pernicious thing I noticed were the different radical, right-wing, pompous fundamentalist church groups of the USA, (I cannot remember any of them being Catholic but I could be wrong. Maybe not, as they would have been competing with their own kind.) They made me outraged. I would ask these cotton- clad monsters, "Perhaps the indigenous people have gods which as just as satisfactory for them as your Christian God?" Suddenly all the false bonhomie would be stripped aside. Most interesting.
It will take longer than 6 months but I can see their future quite clearly. Timber companies will proliferate. There will be hastily constructed shacks selling bottles of petrol and liquor. These once proud individuals will be seen squatting around smoking cigarettes and dope. Skeletal dogs will be lying apathetically in the shade. Cheap Japanese or Taiwanese transistors will be blasting out hits of the 90s and methods of birth control, once used competantly, will be pronounced 'verboten'
and just as it looks as if they may return to the forest, TV will arrive. The area around the church will be as clean as the latest pest hole is filthy with the rotten values of the Christian West.

You mean you are against an honest exchange of ideas with other cultures?

You must be a liberal.

Whenever I see a celebrity asking us to send money to some remote location to help feed a child, I think about the scenario you've described.

We send in researchers who are followed by missionaries who are followed by captains of industry. These tribes once able to live off the land then become sick and destitute.

They are not a helpless lot as you would all like to believe. If you all had so much guts why doesnt the chopper land and have some conversation with them....that'ts right...they will have you for dinner before you can utter "mummy i am scared"!

If one's only response to the novel, is to kill it, then one truly is helpless.
-----
If your macho, lost tribesmen did as you say, they'd be acting out of fear.
Isn't it ironic how having "guts" is a precondition for feeling real fear?

Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson issued a release saying that the Democratic nomination cannot be resolved "until the votes of everyone, including these tribesmen, have been counted, and the efforts of the Obama campaign to disenfranchise these people is shameful, shameful."

Oh good, someone else to exploit and steal from. They'd look better in designer jeans at a $100 a pop. Sometimes, wouldn't it be nice to leave people alone?
