Keira Sing

A clip has hit the web of Keira Knightley singing Blue Tahitian Moon in a scene from "The Edge of Love," which costars Sienna Miller and Cillian Murphy, with a screenplay written by Knightley's mom Sharman Macdonald. The Edge of Love, says IMDB, "tells the story of two feisty, free-spirited women are connected by the brilliant, charismatic poet who loves them both." And Keira sings. It opens in the UK next month.

It is her singing. That's not the only time she has sung. She sings a few lines in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" soundtrack.

And we care... why?

Let me just take the time to say that your comment about not caring does not interest me at all.

I know, totally.

I used to be apathetic, but now I just don't care.

you are in a better position to explain why YOU clicked on the story than we are.

That might be her singing, and it might not.

All high-budget films are overdubbed. The actors read their own lips from the playback, and repeat their dialogue with high-quality microphones in their faces. This improves intelligibility. Each actor will have their voice recorded on a separate track, so that the volume can be balanced. Music and sound effects can be mixed in at appropriate volumes.

This overdubbing process means that someone COULD step in for an actor and do their voice-over for them. Did someone do this for Ms. Knightley? It's possible.

I take one clue from watching her face, neck muscles, and breathing in the clip shown. She seems -- a bit placid, like she's not putting the effort into it that a real vocalist would need to exert. Yes, even this "light" singing style requires some exertion. The gauzy back-lighting in the scene doesn't help. It's almost as if they don't want you to scrutinize her too closely.

Of course, it's the nature of the modern filming process, that you can get away with being lazy. She could well have sung her own voice-over.

I think it's her, but she's not that good.

This is what happens when you let your mom, who thinks she is a playright, work with you.

She reminded me of the 1940's film actresses all the way around with her looks and voice. I figure that is the time period of the film. I could be wrong.

Lots of people hiding out in the London underground tubes while bombs rained down above? Yes, the 1940s are a pretty good guess.
