Lanny Davis Loses His Cool On DNC Member

Lanny

A brief but spittle-filled shouting match broke out in the halls of the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee hearing on Saturday between a committee member and a surrogate for Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign.

Lanny Davis, the colorful, committed, and sometimes unrestrained Clinton supporter deliberately interrupted a small gathering of press who had come to hear Jon Ausman, a DNC member, explain the basis of his proposed Florida delegation compromise.

"I'll tell you what," Davis chimed in, "the Clinton campaign's position has been misrepresented by this wonderful love-fest, and the lady who testified for us was saying that the Obama campaign and your proposal is not generous. But it is in fact unfair. If you want to hear, now that the love-fest is over, why don't you come over and hear the counterpoint to this completely disingenuous argument."

A befuddled Ausman who had earlier proposed that Florida's 185 pledged delegates be subject to a 50 percent penalty, asked who exactly Lanny Davis was. By then, however, Davis had herded a slew of reporters around Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, another Clinton supporter, who was standing feet away and insisting that Ausman's deal was far from a "generous" token by the Obama campaign. Then, in the midst of the hastily gathered question and answer session, Ausman reemerged to defend himself.

What proceeded was a heated and, at times, unintentionally hilarious exchange, with the two standing inches apart from each other and the occasional finger pointed in the other's face.

Ausman: [My proposal] is very generous, because Obama was initially fighting for a situation where Clinton would net 6 delegates, now it's 19.

Davis: Don't say you're being generous.

Ausman: I can say we're being generous.

Davis: But you're allowed to and I'm allowed to disagree...

Ausman: But I'm the one who's on the petition...

Reporter: Ok ok, why don't we --

Ausman: Are you a representative of Clinton?

Davis: No, I'm actually just a person...

Ausman: Are you a designated representative of Clinton?

Davis: I am not a designated representative.

Ausman: Then why don't we have a designated representative speak for Clinton and you be silent?

After the fracas ended, Tubbs Jones fielded several additional questions. Arguing that the only "fair" outcome in Florida would be for the full seating of the delegation and not for those delegates to be halved, she deflected questions as to whether the Clinton campaign's proposals were, themselves, uncompromising.

"My name is Stephanie Tubbs Jones and I am the congresswoman from the great state of Ohio, and on behalf of the Clinton campaign, we don't expect that the Obama campaign could be so generous to us to give us these 19 delegates. It is in fact more generous, and more appropriate, that all the votes be counted as they were cast. And if the votes are counted as they were cast, Senator Clinton will get much more than the Obama campaign is saying will be generous."

Within minutes the congresswoman and the press had dispersed. But a heated Davis was still strolling the halls of the Marriot Hotel. Talking to a separate reporter, he acknowledged that even if Clinton were to get everything she wanted, the likelihood remained that she would still lose the nomination.

"They can give us the full 38 delegates [the net gain of counting 100 percent of the vote] and still win," he said. "So why won't they."

Asked about the exchange with Ausman, he said: "I'm f-ing angry."

Please don't ever show Stephanie 'Here's all my Teeth at Once' Tubbs. I get sick to my stomach everytime she smiles. It's not a pretty site. Maybe it's just that she's turned me off by totally stretching the truth everytime she opens her mouth. I remember during the Ohio primary she said that she wasn't going to allow her constituents to bully her into supporting Obama simply b/c they all voted for him. I wonder what's she going to be saying when it's time for her to get re-elected?

I don't know who Jon Ausman is, but damn, I like his style! Talk about not backing down and keeping it plain spoken. Let's get more people like this out in front of the party as we head into November!

I am sick and tired of Lani Davis spouting his nay saying. I thought that after the impeachment hearings of Bill ended, Lani would go back to private life and shut up. Now he is on every TV talkshow spouting his pro Hillary line. His latest proposal is an insult to Obama. Obama, not Bill, has "cool" not to respond to these ridiculous proposals. Doesn't Lani know that "slice and dice" has been rejected and conciliation is in. If he was Al Gore's spokesman, the Supreme Court decision which took the presidency from Gore would have been rejected and he would have put this country into a constitutional crisis for at least one year. Gore, rejected that approach and conceded to Bush. Lani and Hillary should do the same. What is the difference between Rove and Davis? They both use the same playbook.

Lanny Davis drives me crazy!!! I am a RHINO - so I was anti Clinton during impeachment and hated Lanny. Now I am pro Obama and I have had to endure a second round of the Clintons along with Lanny.

TV sets all accross America must turn off when his face hits the screen. I thin only Larry King will even have him on anymore. The great thing about the downfall of the Clinton's should be the dissapearance of Lanny Davis. If Davis ever goes on TV to defend Obama I will know I wasted my vote.

As a woman, I cannot understand the push by women (mainly) to have Hillary Clinton in the White House. I believe she has proven she is lacking in judgment (Iraq War), and has run a nasty campaign against Barack Obama. I really do not know what in her background and actions qualify her to be president. I believe down the road we will have a formidable female candidate, i.e., Gov. Kathleen Sebielus.
08:32 AM on 06/04/2008
Well, can you please tell me what in Obama's background qualifies him over Hillary to be President? You've got to be joking, right? He's been in the Senate two years..hs done nothing and has voted "present" rather than taking a side on a number of occasions..his "community oraganizing"? Give me a break...this guy is the creation of the DNC..period.

truthmeter needs to stick with the truth or maybe he doesnt know any better. Hillary and Obama have passed 2 pieces of Legislation. Obama has been in the Senate less than 2 yrs., while Hillary has been in the Senate 6 yrs. So it appears Obama has done the same as Hillary in 1/3 the time...Ahhhhh.

He voted present while a State Senator, not a US Senator. You are the prime example of the dumbing of America. Get a life, you maggot.

You trolls are all the same, never checking or looking at the facts, just making up what sounds good.

What is the qualification for President? While the ONLY experience for the job is a second-term.

As far as His (Obama) experience in Gov. is concerned, He has more years than Hillary in legislation, counting state & US Senate experience. Hillary had only a year and a half of US Sen. before She started running for Pres. Now if you want to try and count Bill's time in office, that's illegal, and called "ANTI-NEPOTISM".
Hillary claimed She had more dumb people on Her side then Obama has.

NOT MY WORDS, HERS!

The pro-Israel groups in America are scared to death of not having a puppet in the Whitehouse. The Democratic Party is going to have to come to terms with a part of its base, pro war Israeli Jews. They voted for Bush (note: I did NOT say all Jews, just the ones that fit my criteria) and will vote for McCain, if Clinton is not the nominee. Democrats are principally against the war and Clinton, even thought she says otherwise, she has supported it. And if you are angry at this than please explain why AIPAC is writing legislation that is being put before our senate and congress for authorization. The bill regarding what America will consider Iran’s revolutionary guard and how they are supporters of terrorism, was written by AIPAC, and brought up for a vote by leiberman, Clinton voted yes on it. For too long America has backed the Israeli government and it has to stop, and will sooner or later.

Well, the same kind of APPEASERS brought Hitler to power. Read ( "War & Peace" and "The rise and power, of the third Reicht".)

As far as I'm concerned, the overwhelming amount of the Jewish people, will always do the right thing. But the Lieberman's and some blacks & whites of this country will always "cut off their own nose..."

NOTE:
When I mention Blacks, I'm referring to the ones that give loyalty to Dems that do give a damn about them. We must vote for the best candidate working for our interest, not just "party-line".

The real question is why are Clintonistas so easily manipulated? I remember back in the 2000 election when we were all debating about the votes in Florida, not how they should be recounted, but weather they should be counted at all. I saw how republicans sold their soul and their reason because it suited their selfish interests. Now I see it again with Clinton supporters, weather it is the crap about FL and MI or how Obama and the media are sexist… Even though Clinton herself agreed to the rules about FL and MI, she and her surrogates have the audacity to act like they are being cheated. Then you have one Clinonite after another complaining about the media, and Obama, he/they are sexist, “pushing us out of the race”, “it never happened before, as to why they are doing it now I don’t know” Clinton said in her now infamous assassination interview. She knew what she was doing, while she was claiming total amazement at why she was being asked to get out, everyone around Clinton, all her forked tongue surrogates, where out blaming it on sexism. Of course it was not unique, many time before her other candidates have been asked to get out of the race and furthermore, the main reason she was being asked to get out was because she was running a Karl Rove like campaign against a fellow democrat. She was hearting the party.

Lanny Davis is the single most important factor in Hillary Clinton's defeat. Every night he was on TV and every night he alienated more voters with his supercilious, smarmy, disingenuous delivery of an unbelievable perversion of the facts. His attitude was clearly dismissive of the intelligence of millions of viewers --- did he really think that the words undeniable and irrefutable were going to convince anybody or anything?
07:51 PM on 06/03/2008
I thought Lanny was strong when all the other pundits were putting down Hillary. If your premise is right, then everyone who watched MSNBC should be against Obama.

What a loser.

Imagine what it must feel like to be so deeply ingrained in the "legacy" of a pair of politicians who have finally had the enormous flaming facials they have deserved for years.

BTW - have you seen this Hillary spoof?

I am hopeful that we will see a Democratic President in the White House in January 2009, But I am very concerned that we need to have Hillary's Clinton's help to make this happen. All I see in most of the comments are writers venting their disgusting venom, and calling her disgusting names. Do not these people realize that this is turning off many of the supporters of Hillary. Keep this up and you may help the Republicans win the White House. I also support Obama, and do not wish to see him lose the election, due to many of you not thinking clearly. We must unite, not pull apart. As to Lanny Davis, he is free to speak his thoughts, though I may disagree.

Maury100,I agree with your post,I have been saying the same.Theres alot of hate being spewed on these post concerning Clinton,I sure Obama would be ashamed of these supporters,if he knew. And these people are supposed to be so educated.

Oh give me a break with this noise.
If the Dems don't win back the White house in 09, it will because of the people you are saying to play nice too.
If these "Stiff-Necked-People" can't except someone better than McSame because their candidate lost by fueling a fire She started, THEY NEVER WILL, no matter what!
Why must I kiss butt for people to save their own ass?

It's gonna be, what its gonna be. Live or die with your vote for a BETTER-AMERICA.

John Mac, is LOST, so go for it!

The Mind is a terrible thing to waste. Hillary supporters continue to believe that more people have voted for her despite Losing every single caucus contest where the popular vote is not calculated. just Shows how bad we need education reform in this country.
