The Democratic Party's Rules and Bylaws Committee is close to reaching a deal to seat the entire Florida and Michigan delegations, each with half of its vote, according to multiple sources.

Sen. Hillary Clinton would gain a net of approximately 28 delegates - not enough to seriously threaten Obama's national delegate advantage. Sources said both campaigns were willing to hammer out an agreement along these lines.

Two officials, including a high-ranking member of the Florida delegation, confirmed that DNC members reached an agreement last night and will seat the state's entire delegation but give each delegate half a vote. The result of the Florida deal would be a net gain of 19 delegates for Clinton, though there is no word yet on how the state's superdelegates will be allocated. It is, the official says, a compromise that Sen. Barack Obama will accept. "There will be theater but not much fight."

The Michigan compromise, details of which must still be worked out, would give the majority of delegates to Clinton, who won 55 percent of the vote in the state's primary. Those with knowledge of the RBC's inner workings say the potential deal involves all of the candidates who took their names off the state's ballot voluntarily agreeing that the now-uncommitted delegates would go to Obama. The Illinois Democrat, accordingly, would receive 40 percent of delegates. Clinton nets roughly nine delegates on Obama under this scenario.

Democratic sources believe the Michigan proposal stands the greatest chance of passing: it would pacify Sen. Carl Levin, who has demanded that his state's non-sanctioned January primary be fully honored; and it would circumvent the Clinton campaign's insistence that party rules prevent simply assigning all of Michigan's uncommitted delegates to Obama.

In addition to Obama, Sen. Joseph Biden, former Sen. John Edwards and Gov. Bill Richardson all removed their names from the Michigan ballot. The Clinton campaign has contended that it would be against party rules to simply determine that all "uncommitted" voters were backing Obama. The floated compromise would resolve that dispute.

Tad Devine, a veteran Democratic strategist who helped craft the delegate selection rules, says that such a compromise would be "based on the broad grant of authority under the charter of the [Rules and Bylaws Committee]." In other words, he said, the deal would rest on the agreement of all the relevant campaigns and Democratic leaders, not any specific party rules.

Another Michigan compromise -- splitting the state's delegates 50-50 between Obama and Clinton - was three votes shy of receiving majority support from the Rules and Bylaws Committee, The Huffington Post was told.

Not as such, but he can liberate them. And since he endorsed Obama, they will probably go for him. I think 9 out of the 13 already said as much.

Her supporters disgraced themselves and also the Women Rights Movement. This was not a fight they should have put their energy into… No one took this opportunity away from her, she lost it because of poor planning, poor budgeting, poor communicating and the most important aspect of it all she lost because of poor judgment; she lost it at her own hands and not at the hands of others. And its sad that these women have so low expectation of themselves that they believe that Hillary Clinton is their only and last chance to become President; what do they tell next generation that the Women’s Movement ended with Hillary Clinton…

She was not the right candidate for this fight and there is no other way to spin this and no logical way to blame others for this…. The time will come when we will have a woman President and she would have earned this because she would have fought hard from the bottom up and because she felt she was entitled.

Clearly it was the Clinton people who was behind their supporters showing up and acting a fool. I feel sorry for them, because they are just ponds in Hillary's little web, sadly today was another example of a poor executed plan on the part of the Clinton campaign.

This was an eerie reminder of the Clinton's using us during Bill's testimony before the grand jury (Monica) ... she (Hillary) declared with all tenacity that there was this "vast right-wing conspiracy" attempting to destroy her hubby!! We fell for that sh.t! Soooo, I can understand some of this blind loyalty ... but, it just some more sh.t being dumped!

When this process started months ago prior to Iowa, I was pro-Hillary and defended her to anyone who had an off-the-cuff critique of her. It didn’t take long before her campaign turned from idealistic to run-of-mill-politics-as-usual; she became indefensible.

The longer her campaign went on, the worse she became. There is nothing wrong with ambition, but when it becomes the end and not a means to an end “troubles a brewin”. Someone early in the campaign needed to take her aside and keep her on the path she claimed she was on; to quote a line from Scrubs: “you have to replace the captain of your brain ship because he is drunk at the wheel.”

Unfortunately too many people have partaken of the Kool-Aid in Hillarytown and they cannot or don’t want to step back from what has been going on long enough to evaluate her and her campaign for what they are; everything they claim they hate about politics. After watching today’s spectacle, my faith that they will ever be able to do this is lacking. I hope they prove me wrong.

Then you must have a problem with how Obama's camp has run IT'S campaign. Unless you are like most of his supporters who conveniently ignore the facts that his surrogates are really sowing seeds of discontent within the democratic party. And also convenient that Obama can safely stay above the fray because the vitriol and bitterness did not come from his vocal chords. And if you know anything about Obama you know he runs bare-knuckled campaigns which seek to eliminate his competition entirely from anyone's decision on voting by removing them completely from all ballots. You're naive at best and ignorant at worst if you believe Obama is a "new" brand of politics. You must not know what school he comes from.

Obama may have a tough time in NOv without the over 17 million Clinton supporters who have seen Ms. Clinton insulted and attacked in an unfair manner on an almost daily basis by Obama supporters. Obama supporters have also insulted older voters, Hispanic voters, blue collar voters, black voters supporting Ms. Clinton, whites in general and white males. It seems Obama and his supporters believe they can win with the balck vote and the votes of latte sipping liberals.

Is HRC taking this to the convention? That sure sounded like what Ickes was saying.

Its time for Pelosi to show Hillary who is the HBIC.

I admire Pelosi and she didn't need a man to provide a path for her to Speaker of the House.

Thats the kind of woman we should be proud of.

Chris Matthews got crucified for it but I think he was correct when he said that Hillary would not be where she is if she wasn't married to Bill and he didn't cheat on her.

What's really shameful is Hillary's stump speeches are basically what her "husband" did as president .... she has no problems being preceived the mere appendage of a man! Most other female leaders are most times alone .... the hubby is in the back or perhaps on the side line .. never seen those hubbies being deployed to divide a nation!

That woman is no feminist ... feminist are about being respected for their own accomplishments!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:08 PM on 05/31/2008

You got that right! I want to be respected on my own merit and not my husbands. What a crock and people just fall for it.

The Clintons used Africans Americans to get Bill elected and when they wasn't any use to them in this election they moved on to "hard working, white hard working people" and white woman.

You women that are so in love with Hillary better watch out because she will drop you like a bad habit in 2012 if something better comes along.

How dare Clinton and any of her proxy sycophants make the analogy between the Civil Rights movement and the MI and FL delegate seating. Did African Americans "break the rules" by being black or slaves? Did they have their vote cheapened, taken away or count for less because they agreed to a set of rules, tried to bend and break them, then complained about it ad nauseum? No. To compare a woman of privledge who has had some of the very best opportunities in life to Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, etc.. is a sin of epoch proportions. Shame on them!

The Florida primary was moved by the GOP-controlled state legislature and the GOP governor, not the state's Democratic Party. And Obama supporters want them punished for the actions of the GOP. Add the voters of Florida to the long list of folks Obama supporters have insulted.

I, for one, cannot wait to see how Hil and Bill try and spin this into some "remember when FL took the election from Al Gore" bit. I live in MI and one of the local NPR correspondents was there and interviewed many of the people who were so rude during the MI decision and NONE of them were from MI. What is the difference between this and the Repubs busing in people into FL back in 2004 who "acted" as pro-abortion supporters of Kerry?

I was surprised when he started bringing up the argument to rotate the states that start off the primary season in these hearings and he was not at all apologetic for the MI decision to proceed with the early election. I thought that he presented a very balanced view of how flawed the primary was, how the MI Dems came up with this way of dividing the votes and why he wanted 100% representation.
He wanted to unify the party in MI and this is what was done on the state level but unification was the ultimate goal. For that reason I think he was okay with the 50% vote.
