Pflger

ABC News' Jake Tapper is reporting today that last week, Michael Pfleger, the bonkers Catholic attention-whore who insulted the Clintons from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ, actually had some similarly insulting things to say about the Clinton's at his own church, St. Sabinas, because apparently everybody in Chicago has already had their souls saved and so all that time in Church can be spent cracking HILARIOUS political jokes. Via Tapper:

At his own church, St. Sabina's, Pfleger said, "Hillary and McCain would wish they had a preacher with the integrity of Jeremiah Wright. ... They got some old weak preacher...some old Joel Osteen cotton candy preacher."

If any of you want to feel the Stigmata Of Father Pfleger visited upon their own person this Sunday, feel free to cop a listen here. To Tapper, Pfleger's insult raises another question: "On March 2, Bill and Chelsea Clinton went to Joel Osteen's church in Houston. That's not cool? Something wrong with Osteen?" To me, the issue this whole series of incidents raises is this: Since all these people hate one another, why do we not have a teevee show where crazy priests hit each other with sticks?

Here's a short bit of an essay I wrote:

I’m going to say out loud no one on television or radio or on the campaign dares to say for fear of losing their jobs: White people are afraid of the revenge of the black people. Whites are afraid if America elects a black president who has such an impassioned but still-in-pain reverend, will that pain be reflected by the president? In other words, will it be open season on whites as it not long ago was open season on black people; hangings and burnings and beatings and rapes. Once we have a black president, will it be okay to return such abuses in like kind upon white people?

I’m going to let white people in on a little secret here about the black race. I don’t think the black race will be overly offended if I tell one of their unspoken secrets: The black race is the most passionate, the most accepting of differences, and the most forgiving you would ever meet. Also the strongest. After all, white people, they do put up with your BS everyday. And have put up with the BS for centuries. Do you think you could claim the same?

I saw this interview with Pflegler, (link below) on the street, conducted by FOX news. The interviewer attempted numerous times to bait and frame his responses, in relation to Rev. Wright, Pfegler was not having any of it. His answers were thoughtful and reflected a genuine intellect and understanding deeper than is usually seen. He capped it off by saying that MLK isn't the fluffy guy "you" make him out to be, he criticized the US and it's policies and spoke truth to power.

Watch this video and tell me you don't admire this man. He's being characterized by the MSM.

Folks, I am not trying to be racially divisive. But I think if Whites will place the shoe on the other foot or walk a mile in the shoes of others now and then, perhaps Blacks and Whites can come to better understandings. For example, why are no MSM outlets offering interviews to Rev. Wright or Father Pfliger to get better understandings of Black Liberation Theology and how it can benefit African Americans and communities? If more people understood the premises of BLT, everyone could get better perspectives on how African Americans think, worship and try to improve ourselves. Regardless of what people may think of pastors like Rev. Wright and Father Pfliger, they are NOT racists nor crazy. They are intelligent, articulate and well-educated ministers who are quite capable of intelligent constructive dialogue on multiple topics with the MSM, academic scholars, other religious leaders, sociologists, historians and politicians.

The double standards Blacks constantly see is it always appears our activists, cultural leaders, scholars, and pastors are wrong, crazy or divisive, but not so with their counterparts of other races.

If the MSM gives multiple interviews to Scott McClellan’s book, Paris Hilton or some KKK Grand Wizard making outrageous statements, why not pastors like Rev. Wright or Father Pfliger? Instead of using Wright and Pfliger as political bludgeons to bloody Obama, why not discuss the concepts of BLT and what historically drives it? Why can’t we have nationally open dialogues about our differences rather than dismissing or condemning them?

Pfleger and Wright don't call what they preach "Black Liberation Theology". During the original FOX interview (below), the interviewer repeatedly tries to use that term to define Wright, and Pfleger rebuts it.

I think the concept of a reality show where religious people can attack each other would do much to educate the American public. Losers could be burned at the stake, winners would get a million low-IQ followers who tithe regularly.

What I want to know is, how many of our elected officials attend a Catholic church? And how many are Catholic but are pro choice and pro gay rights? Why are they are not being held responsible for the horrific acts of child abuse committee by Catholic priests. Why is it people can accept and believe Catholic politicians can go to their church but have their own views? I'll tell you why, because people seem to have common sense until it's comes to Sen. Obama and his church.

Another this is ..how come no one, not one news person, have enlightened the public to Hillary "Family Prayer Group" goggle this.....she is certianly no prize when it comes to religion.

As for Sen Obama..........I believe he is very religious...and I also know you can attend a church, for many years, and not adhear to most of what is said at the pulput. You can not "vet' your priest, pastor, reverand, rabbi etc. Sen Obama is NOT responsible for those comments. PERIOD.

If you hold him( Sen Obama) responsible...then you must hold yourself accountable for less than desireable things being spoken from MANY pulpits within the USA.

Racism is rampant within the USA.........................how sad.......... we truely havent advanced very far, Have we?

Older white woman voting for Obama.....................just using common sense...try it

Most Posts are really RIGHT ON. When I heard Father Pflegler, it reminded me how many of us laugh at things that we should not. Notwithstanding his offensive rhetoric, the priest considered himself "ONSTAGE"...."An Actor"...."Hollywood"...doing his thing. Wrong...yes. However, this kind of rhetoric and behavior has occurred in his church and others many times, particularly in urban city areas like Chicago, Atlanta and Detroit.

It's just a different WORLD in some of those churches. The people don't hate...they aren't racists, but they are ill-informed when such rhetoric is allowed for the sake of making a point with HUMOR(?).......

I grew up in a Baptist church...Black...and our minister whooped and hollered, but never cursed or talked about any ethnic group in a negative manner. I have been in other Black churches where there is whooping, hollering, testifying...But, I have not heard inflammatory words...not even DAM. (can i say that?)

I have attended white Baptist churches where everything was very quiet and it just bored me stiff. There would be a beautiful song by a soloist and no one applauded or even said "Amen." I just could not get into worship there.

I have attended mixed ethnic group churches where it was lively and what we call "Praise Worship" conducted. No inflammatory words....no cursing. There can be spirited worship, without the theatrics of Father Pflegler. However, remember...It is his right to freedom of speech. That's America!

Soon he can retire to bouncing young kids on his lap instead of ranting to a black audience. Perhaps he has a 'thing' for blacks. What a pitiful transparent phony.

dear mergina

sorry if your preist and/or pastor has unspoken sins in their past. but i think that father Pfleger has no issue with helping the poor and homeless. can u say that at your place of worship that you and your congregation went to the street (on a reg bases not just holidays) to server as chistians?

if not, do not speak to things you yourself has not concided on a daily bases. im glad he as a white spirital leader, is will to serve the poor of all colors, SIN, economics, place of living and without self placed first.

How about a separation of church and state? How about no religious test? That would work for me.

Just how close to God, does Rev Wright and Father Pfleger bring their people with their rants?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:02 PM on 06/02/2008

Guess you haven't accepted christ cause only you bring yourself close to god and believe in the spirit that with him anything is possible. Attending a church is worshiping in faith and with the community of those who share the same god. It's scary to see how many people who don't know the meaning of worship and faith in god.

The only thing that surprised me of the latest "pastor scandal", is that a Roman Catholic priest would be supporting a pro-choice candidate. Never thought I'd see the day....

Obama has been friends with Pflegen for 20 years and Obama got over $250,000 for his Church, St. Sabina, from the State Gov't in grants.

It's amusing how people will ignore the problems that we have in America and, bicker over what a pastor said about the Clintons. It is not Obama's fault if someone he knows speaks there mind about the Clintons or, whom ever...it's called FREEDOM OF SPEECH...GET USE TO IT..& who cares if he supports a pro-choice candidate what a women chooses to do with her body is her business. I hate when people like you make it seem like you're so "graceful" but, really you've made mistakes too and I'm sure plenty EVERYONE has so please don't post crap and make it seem like you're so perfect cause you're not! We have more problems to talk about and solve than to fuss over what someone said about Hillary! WHO CARES...Hillary needs to get over herself. She has brought up so much division in the Democratic party and she does not deserve to be President or, even Vice President! So all you Hillary supporters keep on crying over 4 stupid delegates that she really doesn't deserve because trust me she needs more than just 4. She has played dirty politics and still is playing dirty politics and , the ones that are so hypnotized by her words are so blind...So buy yourself a clue and get a life! This is getting old and so is she.

People shouldn't hide how they really feel about how Hillary and Bill carried on. People want to judge Obama for being in a church for 20 years and I stop and think I am 42 and I have attended the same Catholic church all my life and there yes are alot of times you don't agree with the things your hearing from the pulpit cause times change . But to say why did he stay in the church for that long, that blows my mind. Guess alot of politicians only attend church when there is benefit for them.

As a Republican Catholic Native American woman I am proud of President Obama.

I thought Father Pfleger was very funny and wondered what's the difference if that kind of comedy/political commentary is done in a pulpit or on Jay Leno? Also, Fr. Pfleger was admonished for mocking hillary.... do any of you remember hillary mocking Barack with her arms raised, saying, "and the skys will open." etc. This clip was played over and over without any comment from the media about how mean sprited it was.

Now, lets bow our heads in prayer and pray that tomorrow marks the end of Hillary and her Hillibots. Her schtick is getting old.

PAY TAXES! Rev. Wright is always screaming GOD DAMN AMERICA but sure loves the Gov't when he cashs the welfare check. Wright's Church, Trinity United hads received over $15,000,000 so far. Obama himself also got over $250,000 for his friend Father Mike from the State Gov't. He hates the Gov't too.

Want to know what I'M tired of? I'm tired of politicians (including Obama) who put on a big dog & pony show about how they're such pious, good, church-going Christians as long as it suits them and helps them get elected, but then as soon as the dirty laundry comes out about the church they attend, then all of a sudden it's "no one else's business." Obama made his church and religion an issue back when he was trying to ride Rev. Wright's coat tails and renown in Chicago to the top of local politics. He took it to another level when he ran for the Senate and national office, and it became a symbiotic relationship for the two of them, even to the extent of Obama making a big hulabaloo about his 2nd book, "The Audacity of Hope" being inspired by a sermon of his religious mentor and best friend, Wright. As soon as Wright became too hot to handle, the Obamas were quick to claim that they'd never thought of Wright as their "religious mentor" or "spiritual advisor."

Give me a break. You use any excuse to denigrate Sen. Obama. He is damned if it does and damned if doesn't. You really don't have a clue do you? Sen. Obama grew up without a father. Rev. Wright served two rolls. A father figure and the person who taught him his faith. If you can't understand that then so be it. Don't vote for him. You would not have voted for him whether there was a Rev. Wright or not. I wonder why?

I'm also sick of the fact that if a politician were to openly admit that he didn't believe in God, or even if he were not a Christian, he would have zero chance of being elected President in this country. If we as a people could only REALLY practice separation of church & state, then perhaps these ridiculous charades wouldn't be necessary, and we'd discover that many of the people we've already elected to office don't believe the religious dogmas and propaganda that they profess to, just to get elected.

I'm scared of the politicians who really do believe this stuff. It makes us not much more advanced than the countries we deride for being run by religious extremists (coincidentally, religions different from "ours").

Personally I don't care what church Obama attends. Some folks were weary of JFK attending a Catholic church. Some folks were weary of John Kerry attending a Catholic church. Some folks are weary of various evangelical preachers, and what they have to say about abortion, gay marriage, torture, etc. Some folks are weary of Black churches and the legacy of slavery. Some folks reject faith communities of any flavor (Baptists, Mormons, Methodists, etc.) But at the end of the election day, we are simply voting for a politician, not any spiritual leader, not any priest, not even a pastor. We are electing a politician to act in the role of national governor. Someone who takes the U.S. constitution seriously, someone who follows the law, someone who shows leadership for the common interests of all americans. Someone who wants to help people achieve Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Me too! And you're right ... WE LOVE Father Pfleger!!!!

What soundbites and media spin don't tell us is the immense sacrifices and contributions both Father Pfleger and Reverend Wright have made on behalf of the greater community over the many years of their ministry. What we're not told by soundbites and media spin is how these two men, individually and often in a concerted effort with others, have stood up and spoken out for truth and against injustice, and have often placed their own lives at risk in doing so. Most of us understand that the media has an agenda and that their agenda often omits the whole story or the other side of the story; but it's unfortunate that there are still some who are so willing to buy into whatever the media has for sale, especially if it fits the narrative that they want to believe. Father Pfleger and Reverend Wright actually believe in the democratic ideals upon which our country was founded, and don't just talk about it, but actually walk the walk. I don't condone or approve of EVERYTHING they've ever done or said, but I realize that looking at only the most controversial parts of a man often distorts the bigger picture of the whole man, and this is what has happened in the case of those who have exploited the controversial parts of these men to slander who they truly are.

Well said StillRise --What I want to know is, where are all the other video's of sermons from this church? Why are we only seeing two in the media? I'll tell you why because the other million sermons weren't sensational enough for prime time TV. Now these pastors are a bit over the top but then I suspect that's the reason they get good attendance on Sunday LOL people come expecting a show, but it is also true that they've done gods work in their churches and communities.

I don't live in Chicago and I love him too. This is what is wrong with this country we have lost our collective senses of humor. Father pfleger was honest AND humorous and I appreciated it and him. With free speech one of our freedoms anyone should be allowed to say anything but when you come down to it actions are what matters and both reverends have helped the poor and disenfranchised who the hell should care about what they SAY.
