Us Soldier In Iraq

Nineteen U.S. soldiers were killed in Iraq in May, the U.S. military said on Sunday, the lowest monthly death toll since U.S. forces invaded to topple Saddam Hussein in 2003.

The number of Iraqi civilians killed in the same month plunged to 505 after reaching a seven-month high of 968 in April, figures obtained by Reuters from Iraq's interior, defense and health ministries showed.

Bush and failed policy and illegal war and all that aside, I'm glad the death toll was not one more person higher. I sure pray that no one will be dying there soon, but for now one less dying is better than the alternative.

Only 19 dead in May that's great! Clearly this is something to celebrate. Maybe only 16 will die in June, I'm praying for 16, that will be REAL progress. Then again the generals say this is easily reversible so I'm praying for at least 18. This war is indeed going splendid. We've sure made a lot of progress in the five years we've been there. We didn't find WMD's but hey, at least we're going to democratize Iraq and spread Democracy to the whole middle east. Bush has done a great thing. With monthly death rates falling we could easily be there for 50 years! Hell we got 150, 000 troops there. At 19 dying a month we could be there a long time! Democracy is coming to Iraq I promise you!

The surge is working. The tax cuts are working. Time to make them both permenent, isn't it Senator McCain? Now about the price of gas...

I just read a blurb that Qaddafi is disappointed with the slow place of improving relations between Libya & the US.

I knew that the Dems were all-out to oppose democracy advancing in Columbia but didn't realize that they were opposing better relations with Libya as well.

Perhaps we could invite Chavez back to the UN, have the Dems take him on a shopping spree in NYC, and then listen to his eloquence about the state of the world.

You "read a blurb"? Way to go. Now try for a whole paragraph. Pretty soon you will be up to short stories.

The Sunnis are not happy campers when it comes to Maliki"s government. This lul in fighting may soon be over and "all hell may break loose". Also, the Shia malitia has not been effectively dealt with. They are as strong as ever. They will want control......where does this leave Maliki and his entourage?

524 human beings killed in a month, just so certain corporations can make bigger profits. Shame on us. Shame on the U.S.A. We have become a far more destructive force in the world than the thugs of al Qaeda can ever hope to be.

Yet YOU call those who kill U.S. soldiers "Freedom Fighters".

I guess to you those soldier's deaths are justified, killed in the name of freedom.
07:36 PM on 06/01/2008
We didn't kill those 524 human beings. They were killed by Islamic extremists also.

How dare you blame the US military for every single Iraqi casualty!!

Never was so much sacrificed by so few for such an ignoble cause!

Thank God the casualties are down! Just in time for the new election cycle!

WOW!

News from Iraq.

First I've seen in a long time; leaves no doubt that the surge continues to be highly successful.

Interesting puzzle for Obama who was against it & stated that it had failed.

Of course, like everything else, he'll never be asked about it.

That's great. Now al Qaeda can never attack us again and Iraq, which wasn't a threat before won't be a threat.

And it only cost 4,100 American lives.
07:33 PM on 06/01/2008
If Al Qaeda could attack us again, it could cost us the 3000 lives we lost on 9/11. Or more.

More importantly, the next "Al Qaeda" might think twice before attacking the first time.

Even one casualty is one too many. Stop funding this illegal war. Our government has destroyed so many lives, it's heartbreaking. How many years ago did the chimp say 'Mission Accomplished'?

So, who was right...

...Those who supported the Surge, or those who opposed the Surge?

Either way, thank God the death toll is way down. Let's not forget that the civilian death tolls are very low comparatively too.

Peace.

those of us who opposed the unjust and illadvise war in Iraq were and are correct, those for it , many have changed their tune and now are against it. Lets vote the bad guys out and get out of other countries civil wars.
02:29 PM on 06/01/2008
I too opposed the invasion. That wasn't the question.

Don't change the question to fit your answer.
07:51 PM on 06/01/2008
Well, let's see.

Now, how many of those 18 governmental and political reconciliation goals that were stated as what were supposed to happen as a result of the troop surge, have actually come to pass?

What's the tally on that, what, a couple of years later? 3? 4? Out of 18? Still? With no progress on the other 14 or 15 in sight?

Yeah, who was right about the surge?
