Not one for arriving on time to visit her husband in prison, Amy Winehouse today spent more than an hour in court supporting her husband who faces charges of assault and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The troubled star sat in the front row of the public gallery as Snaresbrook Crown Court, east London, and smiled lovingly at Blake Fielder-Civil, who smiled back at her from the dock.

Winehouse wore a short blue spotted dress in a clear effort to look smart for her husband's trial, but the classy clothes failed to hide her alarmingly bad skin.

The singer's ragged appearance shocked onlookers as she arrived at court.

No I don't believe the photo's been altered. I know a couple of people who fell prey to drugs and they went from being attractive looking people to looking similar to Amy in an alarmingly short period of time. Drugs make you not care about yourself including hygiene. She has a serious problem and if she doesn't get helped she'll end up dead. Such a shame for such a talent.

Drug addiction is far more than a choice to lead an unhealthy lifestyle. Nobody begins using drugs or alcohol expecting to sink as low as addiction can take us. No amount of money or privelige can lessen the nightmare. I don't suggest we need to feel sorry for Ms. Winehouse or any other addict; but we have to realize that addiciton creates a kind of insanity that needs to be dealt with on a medical and emotional level. Would any non-addict in their right mind want to *look* like Amy does in this photo?
BTW, someone mentioned that Winehouse might have impetigo. Another person dismissed that, saying she was suffering from "meth face". I don't know that Amy is using meth, but if she is, then both posters could be correct. Meth causes lots of users to scratch and pick at their skin...esp­ecially their faces. The sores become infected, resulting in "meth face".
Amy is supremely talented. I don't want to see her go the way of so many other supremely talented musicians. As well as all the lowly unknown addicts we wish we could save.

We should teach the children of this country the REAL effects of drugs instead of just say no or glamorizing them.
The problem that people do not want to face is that they would have to have an educated balanced discussion of the drugs that they are referencing.
Most people do not want to have a real non-judgemental discussion regarding drugs in the country.
The system of prohibition does not work, yet the system is set up to profit from this system.
Politicians, judges, lawyers, jails, guards and cops all profit from this system and do not want prohibition to go away.
We should show these pictures to all children so they could see the results of drug use.
Addicts could talk to kids to discuss the reality of addiction and what happens to your body and soul.
Until we take the stigma out of drugs and make it a health issue we will never stop them.

To all of you shallow folks insulting Ms. Winehouse, let me point out that it is what is on the INSIDE that counts....­.and in her case, what is on the inside includes a half ounce of crystal meth, a liter of vodka, 4 dilaudid suppositories, 40 mg of Oxycontin, 60 mg of Valium, 1 million units of penicillin and a rabbit vibrator.

I read somewhere that she has impetigo, a bacterial infection that is becoming a bit more common and--due to the overuse of antibiotics--a little more difficult to treat effectively. No doubt a compromised immune system does not help--if she has that. Nor does a lack of consistancy in taking/applying prescribed pharmaceuticals. My point is merely that this is not "cooties". You or your kids could come down with this. Highschools are seeing quite a number of cases, and traditionally those most vulnerable are ages 2-6.

Frankly, I think it takes a lot of courage to go out in public with that sort of condition. And while she seems to have a lot of self inflicted wounds--this may not be one of them.
