ABC News' Sarah Amos Reports: Speaking to a crowd in Milbank, SD former President Bill Clinton admitted that today could be the last time he has such an active role in presidential politics.

"I want to say also that this may be the last day I'm ever involved in a campaign of this kind. I thought I was out of politics, 'til Hillary decided to run. But it has been, one of the greatest honors of my life to go around and campaign for her for president," said Clinton as he began his speech.

If Bill Clinton had not been so visible and so embarrassing during his wife's campaign, Todd Purdum might not have been motivated to write "The Comeback Id" profile on Clinton for Vanity Fair. I can understand his backing off from further appearances.

It is a fascinating "must read"..and here is the link:

Okay, look! Don't tease us, Bill. Alright!?

Man, you guys still don't understand Clintonese????

"this MAY be the last day i'm ever involved in a campaign OF THIS KIND"

Look at the capitalized words and let me know if you still think he actually said anything.

No, I think this is one time when you are reading too much into it. Just because the Clintons are masters with words---and they are--- doesn't mean that every single thing they say is semantically 'cooked'.

Sure, maybe. But the words chosen were chosen very carefully. If they stay in this he can say that he did say, "May" and "CAMPAIGN OF THIS KIND". Because after the primaries are done there will be no chance for a campaign of "THIS KIND" again.

OT-if you use a different computer does Huffpo delay your posts? My recent comments have not been showing. Just wondering...

I think we should lay off the snarky comments about the Clintons. We need to unify the party behind Obama and bring back the Clinton supporters. Also, on another blog page: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/02/clinton-summons-top-donor_n_104715.html there was a Republican troll masking as a Clinton supporter making inflamatory comments trying to stir up dissension between Obama and Clinton supporters. Don't let them divide us, we need to unite and put a democrat in the white house.

You are the third person---that I know of, anyway---to ask this of us today. And yet today I have seen some of the nastiest posts from Hillary supporters, most of them unprovoked. That, taken together will Bill's down-and-dirty attack on Obama, saying that Obama gets other people to slime Hillary, is too much---how unfitting of a former president to say such a thing, even if it is true and I doubt it is.
No. Hillary supporters---the nasty ones anyway---will not get any slack from me. I will not attack them first, but if they start in, I will defend Obama with all my might and tell them to get stuffed.

Abby, I hear you. But after the past eight years, I think our country REALLY needs for some of us to stand up, get out of all this mud and break the cycle. I think that's just going to require letting some stuff go that we are justified to be angry about. Think about it. This is what Sen. Obama is doing. That's why I came to support him. I think that's how we are going to win in a landslide, by rising above tit for tat politics. Being idealistic and taking our country back. If you ever wished you could have been involved in a great movement like that of Dr. King or Mohandas Ghandi, I think this might be the start of something like that. Virtue is the most powerful force there is, so I don't know why those who seek power seldom cling to it. Please, forget about the Clintons ( you gotta admit, Chelsea's cool), we have better things to be concerned about now.

I thought Bill was out defending himself against that Vanity Fair article. If he is being truthful about this being the last time he will campaign it may all be for the better. The Clintons have some really unsavory stuff in their closets and I doubt if they want that stuff coming to the forefront-best to lay low. Although I don't necessarily feel sorrow for their current plight because of the way they treated Sen. Obama, I can't say that I would like to see them in jail either. What do you all think?

Obama/Sebelius 08 YES WE CAN!!!

That's an applause line if ever I heard one.

Thank you, superdelegates, who've been turning down the Clintons' entreaties to support them now. Between that, and public statements from supporters like Vilsack and Rendell, maybe the message is finally sinking in.

Bill and Hillary go back to Arkansas - no one wants or need your help - don't send Hillary to my state for a senator's job - I heard NY will not vote for her again - she's destroyed her reputation - now the media is saying Bill's heart condition/surgery is the reason for his outrageous behavior - excuses, execuses - for idiots -

LOL...My God... people are easy.....they give new meaning to the words......"we won't be fooled again"...or "fool me once......................"
Bunch of tools.......
come on!!! snap out of it...these are the Clintons.. They had this all planned (presidency) since they got married. Hell, some think it's why they got married. Why do you think she stayed with Bill through and since the Monica scandal? Those close to the Clintons have said that after finding out that the Monica accusations were in fact true...Hillary was most upset because Bill may have ruined her chances at the Presidency. This is more then just a goal or ambition.
People...people......they are going.... no.. where.... Maybe I'm wrong..I hope I am...but....

just a thought

That would be great if we had a dem nominee. But we don't we have Obama, the Nader herd/AA nominee who has alienated evryone else. I think it's reasonable that he sits this one out until we actually get a dem nominee.
