A key surrogate to John McCain and a member of the Senator's vice-presidential list, made overt overtures on Tuesday for disaffected Hillary Clinton supporters to join the Arizona Republican.

Speaking on a conference call to preempt Barack Obama's appearance in Minneapolis, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty asserted that Clinton backers would find a natural affinity to McCain's experience, judgment and political leadership.

"There's going to be a competition for many of Hillary Clinton's former supporters," said the Republican Governor. "I think many of those voters are going to consider supporting McCain. They see in him many of the same characteristics they saw in Hillary Clinton."

The remarks underscore a nascent but growing effort on the part of McCain to pry away angered or disillusioned Democrats. On Monday, the Senator and aides offered sympathy to Clinton for the unfair treatment that he said she has received throughout the primary. He also praised the New York Democrat for inspiring "generations of American women to believe that they can reach the highest office in this nation."

Pawlenty's conference call -- which started off with massive technical difficulties -- was not solely dedicated to opening wounds within the Democratic Party. The governor went through a litany of attacks on Obama, saying he was inexperienced, too liberal and -- more to the point -- something of an empty suit.

"Being able to read form a teleprompter is not a prerequisite for being president of the United States," he said of the Illinois Democrat.

Pressed by reporters for specifics, Pawlenty came up a bit lame. He could not specify a specific policy proposal put forth by Obama to justify his claim that the Democratic frontrunner deserved his National Journal ranking as the Senate's most liberal member; in the end, resorting to a gun control policy that Obama helped push in the Illinois State Senate.

Asked specifically if he thinks Obama's lack of experience in world affairs made him a liability for the Oval Office and, consequently, a risk for the country should he end up president, Pawlenty refused to directly address the question.

"I think it is beyond debate that experience is helpful and leads to better wisdom and insight," he said. "It is certainly not the only quality... If you look at Sen. McCain's insight early on in the Bush administration... he alone, or almost alone, on the Republican side, was a voice of saying we need to do this differently."

Over the past week, McCain and his aides have repeatedly hit Obama for not having visited Iraq in more than two years. However, as The Huffington Post reported on Monday, the Senator has surrounded himself with a range of individuals who have visited the war zone as infrequently as Obama. The list includes former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who despite having never been to Iraq, McCain touted as his "strong right arm" in combating Islamic extremism. Gov. Charlie Christ of Florida has never gone, and Mitt Romney, another VP option, has been once.

Asked whether trips likes these should serve as a barometer for McCain's VP choice, Pawlenty, who has been to Iraq three times, replied:

"I think the more times you have been to Iraq the better," he said, "how to understand the situation on the ground and how it has evolved over time."

Earth to Pawlenty: That last sentence is going to put the final nail in the Republican coffin come Nov.. News Flash: it would be an understatement to say it is neither flattering to Clinton nor McCain to compare both candidates and see similarities in character. But keep talking- it's sort of like watching your enemy jump ship while clutching the anchor to his chest instead of a life preserver.

McCain's wealth of experience led him to believe that we should go to war with Iraq in 1998. All the way back then, he was already sponsoring bills to funnel millions to the liar Ahmed Chalabi for the "liberation" of Iraq.

McCain, far from having learned his lesson, continues to push the neoconservative idea of coercive democracy in other countries, not limited to just Iraq.

I was just watching Katie Couric interview some Pennsylvania women on the primary results. Two things struck me:

One woman said she did not think a woman would be President in her lifetime simply because she did not think that another woman who was as qualified as Hillary Clinton would appear in her life time. I about choked; there are hundreds (of thousands?) of women as or more qualified than Hillary, and they do not have personal and/or familial integrity issues!!!

Man, talk about selling your own gender short!!!

Secondly, the famous "women will not vote for Obama because Hillary was mistreated by the media et al" issue. I sat there watching one woman say she was staying home, another woman saying she knew women who would vote for McCain now, etc. etc. etc.

Amazing...announcements of thousands of layoffs, food prices soaring, jobs leaving, people dying in wars that were started with lies, poverty increasing - each and every problem primarily attributable to the Republicans and/or the corporations and the wealthy elite that own them.

But those women place so much more value on their anger than they do on what the Republicans have done to their and their families' present and future that they are willing to pound the stake into America's heart with yet more Republicans.

That pretty much destroyed any remnant of the myth that "the maternal instinct" is a characteristic common to women that I may have been shielding from modern reality.

I don't want to see either Hillary, or Bill, campaigning for Obama. I want her to go quietly into the night and not be seen or heard from again. Same goes for Bill. If that means that the Democrats lose this one, so be it. I reached my limit of Clinton fatigue today, and this time it was from the left. I've had it, no more Clintons. It doesn't matter to me who the president is, only who has a filibuster proof majority in the Congress and that will be the Democrats.

Guess what...it is not filibuster proof when the Congress is filled with Blue Dog Democrats who only call themselves Democrats but vote like Republicans. It has been the policy of our elected leaders to draft anybody who will claim to be Democrat to run in the South.

I guess they will have lots of time to be pleased with themselves as their children or granchildren are drafted and shipped off to Iran, Iraq and Syria. Good luck with that ladies, you sure will have taught someone a lesson! Darn tootin'!

The corporate media wanted this election to be about race and gender instead of issues. The Democrats happily went along with it. So as far as these Pennsylvania women know the election has been about race and gender. So what is your problem with their reaction to the outcome. All of a sudden you want them to consider issues?

The Clinton supporters will love helping obliterate Iran while helping McCain outlaw abortion. So much for their progressive democratic values.

What I think he meant to say was Clinton supporters join McCain
If you want your great grand children to be doing tours of duty in Iraq.
If you want to appoint judges who will strip women of their reproductive freedoms.
If you agree with McCain's vote to make it harder for women to file gender discrimination workplace suits.
If you agree that we should just go ahead and bomb, bomb, bomb Iran and just get it over with.
If you think we need to be stingy with benefits for veterans so that our troops won't have any options but reenlistment after they have honorably served their terms of duty.
If you think that the unregulated free market is working well for you even if you're losing your house, your job, can't afford to put gas in your car, and can't remember the last time you could afford a visit with a doctor.
If you think the coutry has been on the right track and can't wait for four more years of Republican rule.

Perhaps John "Crypt Keeper" McCain should be worried about those of us GOP members who so easily deflected when he got the nomination. Worry about why you can't get the base of your party together, before you go sniffing around someone else's door.

No kidding. I know three people who were Republicans when this primary season started. Two are now Democrats voting for Obama and one is still a Republican but voting for Obama. They are all three horrified by what Bush & Company did to the Republican party. All three were "Goldwater Republicans" and all three are scared to death of McCain and what he would do to this country.

A Republican, voting for a liberal? Must have always actually been a Democrat. That, or you're an Operation Chaos operative from the conservatives of Rush Limbaugh ilk here to try and force McCain to grovel to the conservative base.

You know I have always been a Republican, and I have been proud of that. I make no bones about the fact that the GOP nominee is not who or what we need now. I sometimes feel that I am the only Republican who is against the war, and who KNEW that it was based upon a lie. Unfortunately for you, I am not a Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity or O'Reilly girl. I am a Republican who is HIGHLY disappointed in what has happened in the past 6 years. I need a change, I want a change and I think Obama can deliver that.

Even the GOPs realize little neocon Hillary is one of them. As the countdown continues, Hillary's speech tonight is becoming more and more irrelevant. Obama owes her NOTHING. Not the VP slot, not help with her financials woes, not even a speaking slot at the convetion. She has been negative throughout. Let her sulk on her own, and then let her and Bill look at their bank acccount and really wail.

If the people who call C-SPAN and liberal talk radio shows are any indication that may not be a bad strategy on McSame's part. These so called Dems say they are going to vote for McSame for a variety of reasons mostly: the "sexism" leveled at Clinton, the fact that the Dems were not counting Florida and Michigan and the way the Dems counted FL and MI, and one I heard today on Ed Schultz; the sexism and the Dems shouldn't have counted FL and MI at all.

When the shows host ask these people for examples of sexism from the Obama campaign the callers always complain about something Chris Matthews said. Apparently they believe that Matthews and the rest of the corporate whore media, liberal talker radio host and their callers are on the Obama payroll.

Joe Scarbourogh has said that McCain is running on more War and more job losses. he is a repug!

McCain has voted just this year against equal pay for women. He has promised to appoint Supreme Court Judges who will over turn Roe Vs Wade.

The plank in the repug platform he says he will support is that if a father rapes his 12 year old daughter, she must have that child.

He wants more tax cuts on top of the BUSH tax cuts he was against which are responsible already for devaluing the dollar by 60 percent and adding 5 trillion in debt, more than all other Presidents combined.

He is for more of the free trade agreements that have eliminated 70 percent of the MFG jobs in the U.S. and even has your kids with college degrees having to work at a Chillies as even the high paid jobs are outsourced to dollar a day countries such as China and India.. His economic Advisor Sen. Phil Gramm generated the dereguation which led to the Credit crunch and Oil speculation ($4 / gal gas).

I dont believe any of those policies are the policies of Hillary... and if they are yours, then I'm sure you have alrewady voted for BUSH twice, so why not vote for McCain..

Regards
