Study Shows Green Is Sexy

A national survey conducted in the US by Kelton Research for GM shows some encouraging trends:

Fuel- efficient -- The new chick magnet? "Close to nine in 10 women (88 percent) say they'd rather chat up someone with the latest fuel-efficient car versus the latest sports car."

How to win friends and influence people. "Eighty percent of American car buyers would find someone with the latest model fuel-efficient car more interesting to talk to at a party than someone with the latest model sports car."

Not green? That's a fashion don't. "More than four out of 10 (45 percent) 18-43 year-olds say it's a fashion faux-pas nowadays to have a car that is not green or environmentally friendly."

While green would be worth doing even if not fashionable, the superficial popularity still can help in the same way that a superficial popularity for big SUVs helped sell a lot of them in the 90s. What must be avoided is a short-lived trend that dies out. What we want is something closer to big pivotal changes that are still with us even decades later (civil rights, etc).

Project roadway. "More than seven in 10 (73 percent) car buyers say if there were a reality TV show like "Project Runway" that was not about fashion design, but instead about designing the best-'looking fuel-efficient and emissions-free car, they'd definitely watch."

That's definitely a good sign for the launch of the Planet Green TV channel.

Wrong, being "green" is a sign that you need to matter and driving a hybrid is a status symbol.

Why do you think the Prius out sells the Honda Civic Hybrid. It's because the Civic Hybrid looks exactly like a regular Civic. The Prius is unique and "looks" like a hybrid.

"Greenies" need to feel important. They need to think they are saving the planet even though they are just paying extra money to buy a car that saves them some money on gas.

Keeping the air and water clean is always a good idea, just don't tell me that will bring down the temperature of the earth..................it won't.

"Greenies" need to feel important.

Yeah, they also need to be reassured that they're smart. Just like the bimbo who continually asks if you think she's stupid, the Greenies prefer to buy products that affirm their intelligence:

Like the ""Smart" car. Or the Honda "Insight."

As a young white middle-aged heterosexual male, I'd never be attracted to a woman driving an SUV, eating animal products, wearing animals' skins, fur, feathers or other such hideous materials, nor doing anything else ecocidal. Veganism and tree-hugging is invariably a far greater turn-on than any of what passes for trivial definitions of beauty or sexiness in our modern materialistic society, embodied by Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. I'm also completely turned off by right-wing politics or Republican attitudes, even if such people happen to be eco-conscious in other ways. I avoid them like the plague. Every cloud has a silver lining so I'm relieved to see eco-activism infiltrating the modern lexicon of popular culture. I hope this means the days of SUV's, Cadillacs & other such obnoxious vehicles are seriously numbered. If I was a rich man, I'd probably consider buying a Tesla, the unique pricey American sports car that's also a plug-in hybrid, though it may not have much trunk space. My next car will absolutely have to be a Toyota Prius. I drive a 2006 Honda Civic right now as a compromise.

Better yet, just get a stencil and spray HYBRID alongside the car you already own.

Most Chicks won't even notice the difference!

Sorry if the the term offends you, but the article asks: "Fuel- efficient -- The new chick magnet?"

I just answered in kind.

And if you're smart enough to tell the difference between a hybrid and an all gasoline Honda Civic without the "Hybrid!" tag on the fender as a cue, perhaps you're an intelligent woman, rather than a "Chick."

Well, it's about time.

My commute: A walk down a single flight of stairs! No practical commute cost. Zip. Nada... Now, where are all those single cuties?! -wink!-
