Feds Gone Wild: The Worst Crimes By Government Officials

We all remember Kwame Kilpatrick, the infamous mayor of Detroit charged with perjury when explicit text messages surfaced contradicting his sworn denials of an affair with his chief aide. Well, as ABC News has discovered, that's nothing compared to some of the crimes federal officials are committing:

Call it Feds Gone Wild: some of the most colorful busts of law enforcement's own officials, buried in otherwise dull reports to Congress, new editions of which landed earlier this week.

Every six months the top internal watchdogs for the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security report to Capitol Hill on their current efforts, which range from financial audits and management reviews to investigations of wrongdoing into their agencies' own personnel.

Here are some highlights from the report:

--A DHS airport security officer also stole $18,000 from his elderly mother, stopped paying her nursing home bill and ran up charges on her credit cards, the IG said.

--A Border Patrol officer who married and lived with an undocumented alien, and a immigration official who lived with his illegal immigrant girlfriend and helped her obtain fake papers;

--A prison doctor and aide who scammed $2 million from Medicaid by running a bogus HIV therapy program for inmates;

Those crimes are nothing. How about causing the death of three thousand people on 9-11 and causing the death of over 4000 soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan and the death of thousands of Iraqis and the destruction of their country, and torturing thousands of people and bankrupting this country. HA -so I started to read the 'worst crimes by government officials' and quickly figured out whoever wrote this has NOT been paying attention for the last several years....anyway, then I found a much more interesting story right under it...check this out...

"The US military has awarded an $80 million contract to a prominent Saudi financier who has been indicted by the US Justice Department. The contract to supply jet fuel to American bases in Afghanistan was awarded to the Attock Refinery Ltd, a Pakistani-based refinery owned by Gaith Pharaon. Pharaon is wanted in connection with his alleged role at the failed Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), and the CenTrust savings and loan scandal, which cost US tax payers $1.7 billion.

The Saudi businessman was also named in a 2002 French parliamentary report as having links to informal money transfer networks called hawala, known to be used by traders and terrorists, including Al Qaeda.

Interestingly, Pharaon was also an investor in President George W. Bush's first business venture, Arbusto Energy. "

Sounds to me that if we eliminated the DHS, made imigration law a lot more human, and reduced our dependence on the prison industry's grip on our jurisprudence system, in other words, made governmental agencies less powerful overall, we'd have less corruption, even if it wouldn't necessarily eliminate the occassion for people to do bad things, at least it wouldn't be on our own dime. Instead I'm afraid we'll try to buckle down and come up with even more laws and regulation; in effect tightening the knot with which we've managed to tie our shoe's laces to each other with even bigger and tougher knots.
