Couple Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, accompanied by Carrey's daughter Jane, and Jenny's autistic son Evan Asher, were on Capitol Hill in Washington, Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at a rally calling for the elimination of toxins from children's vaccines. Wearing shirts that read "Green Our Vaccines," the pair held pictures of Evan as well. McCarthy, who has written a book about her experience parentlng an autistic son, has long believed his childhood immunizations triggered his condition.

Thank you Jenny and Jim for representing all of us who are against the vaccine craze.

Do you all know that "required" vaccines have quadrupled for children in the last 20 years? Gee..... how can one NOT realize a correlation between autism and injecting our children with poison?

While the number of vaccines has increased the number of viral proteins has dramatically decreased. In the 70's the measels vaccine alone had over 250 proteins to jumpstart the immune system. Now the total number from all vaccines through age 2 is less than 150. If this were the 1950's as you saw a neighbor, friend, or even sibling lose the ability to walk or breathe, or even die from something we can protect against now, you wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the "vaccine craze." The "vaccine craze" as you so eloquently put it, is to keep the community at large healthy. Religious leaders in an African country, the name escapes me, pushed to have followers not immunize against polio. The result? An increase of 300% in polio cases. But hey, my kids are protected, you can put your own children in whatever danger you want to.

I'm all about the fight to find out the causes of Autism, but trying to link them to Vaccines with little to no credible evidence is a case where good intentions are doing more harm than good.

1) This diverts studies into the real causes of Autism, and could cloud the judgment of policy makers.
2) If policy makers ban, or allow parents to not give vaccinations to their kids, we will have wide spread epidemics of diseases that are far worse than autism, and more children will have it.

Again, I support bringing attention to Autism and applaud Jim and Jenny for their work. But as an engineer - we need to let the doctors and scientists do their work. Otherwise we risk making things a whole lot worse. Instead of claiming vaccines are the cause, we should be pushing to fund real studies in it and not basing our facts on data that stretches back into the 40s and 50s when doctors didn't even know how to properly diagnose it or the correlation that autism symptoms show up at generally the same time kids are due for shots. Correlation does not equal causation. That is a very common theme as our medical science gets better. Many diseases have gone through a perceived explosion - not because the disease was actually spreading, but because we got better at diagnosing it.

I believe they are worried about the "preservatives" used in vaccines, not the vaccines themselves. They are just asking questions, which is a good thing.

Except that extensive research has been done that prove vaccines (particularly the mercury in some vaccines) do not cause autism.

And real careful study shows that there is not a significant rise in autism, just in reporting and diagnosing autism.

Its kind of hard to get research done in the medical field that does not benefit pharm companies.
Whether you believe that the amount is dangerous or not, kids shouldn't be subjected to known neurotoxins when it isn't an active necessary part of vaccines.

Independent research in this area has raised plenty of questions. There is more out there than anecdotal correlation.
