June Update:

Michelle guest hosted today, she fist bumped the ladies, talked about Laura Bush and chatted to Matthew Broderick.

Previously:

NEW YORK - Michelle Obama will be a guest host on "The View" on June 18. The popular ABC daytime talk show had invited her to be a guest this month, but she sent back word that she would like to be a host like Cindy McCain did in April, said Bill Geddie, the show's executive producer.

"Equal time _ that's hard to argue with," he said Wednesday.

Being a guest host will allow Michelle Obama to help interview guests and participate in the opening "hot topics," or banter about what's in the news that day. It offers the chance for someone to show a more complete personality than just sitting for an interview and talking about themselves, Geddie said.

Michelle Obama was injected into the campaign when the Tennessee Republican Party posted an online video questioning her patriotism. That prompted her husband, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, to say political opponents should lay off his wife.

When Cindy McCain was guest host in April, comic Craig Ferguson was the lead guest. No guests have been booked for Michelle Obama's show yet.

Barack Obama has appeared twice on "The View," once before his candidacy for president. Republican John McCain has been on several times. Geddie said he expected the candidates to seek out a chance to reach "The View" audience during the campaign and be questioned about what is going on.

"We treat the wives differently than the candidates," Geddie said. "We're tougher on the candidates than we are on the wives. We're trying to get to know them."

Cindy McCain went on The Tonight Show and told the charming tale of how she met her husband. Turns out they were at a party, and John saw her behind a table and would not leave her alone. So much so that he chased her around the table. So cute!

Except he was a married man with children at the time. In fact, married to the woman who stood by him during his long time gone as a POW.

Not so cute. And not so classy to tell this story as funny on national TV.

I assume Michelle Obama will have much more class than this.

There is indeed something to be said for Michelle Obama and Barack Obama - a couple who have stood by the integrity of their vows and promises they made to one another.

No one can take this from them, nor what it says about them.

There is indeed something to honor and celebrate in the fact that this couple has remained faithful to their promises, their pledges to one another.

There is something to be said for this couple that they abided by the ethics that stand beneath all marital promises: to love, honor, cherish, remain faithful and abide in good faith to the promises they made to one another. Not an easy thing to do.

It reflects a level of integrity to ones oath, integrity to one's word, and it suggests ethics that emulate honesty, trustworthiness and ethical conduct to one's marital vows.

No one can take that from Michelle and Barack Obama!
And indeed it is one more insight into WHO they are and the kind of atmosphere they would bring to our White House.

WOW! I could not have said it better. They are genuinely in love and it shows all the time when they are together or apart, Obama respects her so much. This is the kind of example I want for you children.

Yes they can!

Thank you, I agree.
Michelle will be one of this country's best first ladies. She is a beautiful, intelligent woman. I've noticed most of the nasty comments about her seem to come from men if their screen names are an indication. What's the matter, boys? Jealous? Old white men have screwed up this country with war after war. It's time for a new generational change, let's turn the page without fear and move on!!

He chased her around the table. Yuck! This is like seeing your grandparents have foreplay. I don't think this story is cute, because he was married. He chased her like a poor man chases a paper dollar!

Did she also say that he was still married when they met? Adultery is never cute or charming. I bet I can tell you the adjectives his wife at the time used to describe Cindy as well as her relationship with Senator McCain>>>>> They can't be posted here that's for sure.

Elisabeth ,on the View, is so anti-Obama that she will literally tear Michelle apart with that whiny republican voice of hers.
Maybe we'll get lucky and Elisabeth won't show up.

Michelle is not only beautiful, she will bring more class as a first lady into that White House than it has seen in decades!

Disclosure: I'm a 70 plus white former "conservative" man who reads a lot and is cursed with an open mind! That's why I just knew our country desperately needs a man like Barack Obama to fix the present mess.

Having a wife like that wonderful woman is just frosting on the cake!

This is so scary. I can see it now -- no one will inderstand what she is talking about. It will be the "Dead Air Disaster Show." Please please let her have a guest with some brains -- Streisand? Redford? Streisand and Redford together...Reprise of "The Way We Were?" Now that would be cool.

I'm sure one of her buddies...Wright, Meeks, Moss, Pfleger (who is not busy at the moment), or Farrakhan...would be happy to accommodate her. Personally, I'd like to see Elizabeth Hasselback interview ANY of these people. My guess is she won't even sit next to Michelle as it is.

If they did accommodate her, maybe you'd learn something -- like maybe how not to be so pissy?

Actually, Elisabeth would be so out of her element with any of those folks.

Perhaps Michelle, being the gracious lady that she is, will take pity on her and not hand her her behind in a basket, or cause her to go running for a dictionary as the other guys might.. Maybe Elisabeth should pull her chair closer and take notes.

I like Michele. In some ways, she's been an even more impressive addition to the political scene than her husband. (They don't call her "The Closer" for nothing).

As a relative newcomer to the political scene, she's going to make an occasional mistake. But that's OK - as the saying goes: "If you never make a mistake, you're not doing anything").

Sen. Obama's opponents will, no doubt, will do everything possible to cherry-pick a couple of her worst moments and use them to define her and her husband.

But I believe that as the American public gets to know her better, the more impressive she'll become - and those one or two "gotcha moments" will fade into oblivion.

She was supposed to be just a guest, but after Cindy McCain was a guest host. She demanded to be a guest host. not in The White House and already making demands. Very mean spirited.

What is fair is fair. Cindy was a host so why not the Dem? At least we've seen their tax returns. Where is Cindy's. McCain uses her jet, (which is messed up).

Bitter much? I guess all of Hollywood is "mean spirited" because they all do the same thing, even the D listers. Save the BS.

Of course, the VIEW asked HER to do it. Walters seems impressed by Obama and they had Cindy Mc. on so of course they're going to give Michelle the same invitation now that her husband's also the nominee.

Let's get those facts right, eh?

I really like Michelle Obama. She is the real straight talk express. No fuss no muss with this woman. She is going to be a "get it done" first lady!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:45 AM on 06/05/2008

She's going to be a "get it done" first lady is right. And the best part about it is that she doesn't have political ambitions. She wants to work and take care of her children. She's nothing like certain first ladies who thought that they had to be the Vice President so that they could run for President later.

This is scary.
Michelle O is going to talk with one nut that publicly proclaims she is going home to get naked with their kid, and another one that just spouts repug talking points.

There are much better forums for Michelle to go on.

So this should basically make Baracks assertion that his wife is not political fair game , idiotic.....Hey , maybe her Trinity speech will have been released by then or she can just go off on Whitey" on the View

what makes you think that a Princeton graduate uses words like "whitey?"

because you are ignorant?

I frankly don't care if michelle obama used words like 'whitey' while she was at princeton......

I wouldn't trust anyone who didn't demonstrate a revolutionary spirit while in college.

University life is the time for young people to experiement, to explore and to question authority.

hillary clinton demonstrated a revolutionary spirit while she was at school.

It's the cindy mccains of the world I don't trust.

And if you paid attention, you'd know that the rumor has changed yet again and this bombshell"speech" supposedly did not happen in Trinity like it was initially purported.
