From a story in Wednesday's Wall Street Journal:

Among the party leaders Mr. Clinton alienated over time by his angry tirades was South Carolina's Rep. Jim Clyburn, the third-ranking House leader and a civil-rights-movement veteran.

Before South Carolina's primary, Mr. Clyburn admonished Sen. Clinton for suggesting President Johnson deserved more credit than Martin Luther King Jr. for civil-rights laws. On primary night, Mr. Clinton called Mr. Clyburn and they spoke for 50 minutes. "Let's just say it wasn't pleasant," Mr. Clyburn says.

Mr. Clinton called Mr. Clyburn an expletive, say Democrats familiar with the exchange. Mr. Clyburn's office would confirm only that the former president used "offensive" words. Some day soon, the congressman says, he'll write about the incident. On Tuesday, he endorsed Mr. Obama for president.

Bill Clinton is a really unpleasant guy and the single best reason Obama shouldn't pick Hillary for v.p..

Bill Clinton has often acted like the South bound end of a North bound Jackass. So his being less than respectful to this great man, Rep. Clyburn, well it comes as no surprise.

"Before South Carolina's primary, Mr. Clyburn admonished Sen. Clinton for suggesting President Johnson deserved more credit than Martin Luther King Jr. for civil-rights laws."
cute story, even if it IS fiction...no one suggested that LBJ deserved more credit that MLK...what was pointed out was the historical fact that LBJ pushed through civil rights legislation inspired and proposed by Dr. King...the doctrine of 'credit where credit is due' , not to mention historical accuracy, deserves no less. LBJ was no inspiring leader or visionary like Dr King. What he had, that Dr King did not, was the clout, the markers to call in, and the ability to use both, to get legislation passed. Dr King had no problem acknowledging what LBJ did; it's disappointing to see this being used to score cheap political points, as clyburn, jesse jackson, jr, and donna brazille were all to eager to do in their zeal to secure the nomination for obama. in doing so, they inadverdently-or deliberately-cast the clintons as a couple of david duke-style racists-which, to democrats, is a reckless charge that cannot be taken back nor expunged...thanks to clyburn and his pals, the clintons will forever be remembered, unfairly and inaxccurately, as no better than jesse helms...given the circumstances, clyburn should consider himself fortunate that he wasn't given the 'size 10 seat of the pants express'

Former President Bill Clinton's mouth, was the reason why the tide turned against Hillary. Rep. Clyburn, was correct for admonishing Bill Clinton's comments. Bill, should have just taken it like a man, and should have just s-t-f-u !!

People wonder why HRC lost.
On other word Bill STFU, you lost it for HRC. Not the media but you Bill..

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:57 PM on 06/04/2008

Hillary lost it. Bill almost saved it, but the damage was done when he was on the sidelines. When she lost 12 straight contest. Hillary did that without Bill's help. It would not have been this close if he didn't go out and stump for her. Remember her negatives are still extremely HIGH

The Clintons just get more and more disreputable. What their behavior is telling us is that they know she'll never have another chance to run on the national stage. No one in their right mind, especially not practicing politicians, would burn so many bridges like the Clintons have done.

it seems like all the media are ganging on now that the clintons have not won. not that he does not deserve this story, mind you.

Thats what happens when you attack the media like they have been doing.
I personally felt that the media went really SOFT on them. It could have been alot worse.
But i feel like alot of reporters have lost respect for them after watching how they have conducted themselves.

LBJ did the least he could possibly do to further the civil rights movement, and ony did that to smoothe things over with dems in his quest for the white house. His original civil rights bill wasn't orth the paper it was written on, and anyone familiar with legislative history knows that.

Read Robert Caro's series of books on LBJ, specifically hs book about "The Senate Years"...you will be horrified to find a leader who panders so comepletely with the Southern mentality with regard to civil rights (or, I should say the Lack of civil rights).

Civil Rights Act 1964. Voting Rights Act 1965. Giant leaps for mankind.

yet LBJ correctly predicted he'd lose the south forever for the Dems if he went ahead with civil rights. So it seems at some point he did the right thing over what was right for the party; a lesson that the RepugliKKKans will never learn ("party over country all the time") and hopefully the Dems can remember for the good of America.

It is also about "respect" for her. Respect that she has never shown Barack Obama as she never made one concession speech after losing a primary. In order for Hillary and her supporters to get the respect they so desparatly crave, they need to show a little respect.

I have always thought that Bill did not want her to be President. After reading the Vanity Fair article I am sure of it. I applaude his destruction from within on the campaign he knew the two of them would be destruction to the Democratic Party.

Sir, you have "Dirty Laundry" that the Repubs would love to wash.

If you want to know more about this issue here is a PBS video essay describing the Clinton quote and the 1964 Civil Rights Act. It orginially aired on PBS on January 18, 2008:

A long time ago, a bunch of us predicted that Hillary would either be the nominee or destroy the party cause she wasn't. She is living up to whaqt we had all predicted.
The only thing left to do is for the power to be, Reid, Pelosi, and Dean is to sit Hillary down and tell her she got her a$$ kicked out of the democratic party.

Wow, the headline is misleading. Clinton didn't just use some random expletive for emphasis, he *called* Clyburn an (expletive).

Nice diplomacy, Bill.

And you believe this report at face value? After all the negative, yellow media coverage of the Clintons?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:53 PM on 06/04/2008

Yeah, I do. Why? Because of what came out of Bill's OWN mouth during the campaign that sunk his wife's presidential bid. He's a misogynist. He's a narcissist who basically wanted a third term through his wife. Do you *really* think he would have let her rule in peace? A lot of her supporters really wanted HIM because they were nostalgic for the 'old days'.

Well, if they had said "sources say", then one might not take it for face value. But since the person who Bill said it to was quoted, it is believable.
