Hillary Hillary

On a Thursday afternoon conference call with top donors to her campaign, Sen. Hillary Clinton pledged "total support for Barack Obama," according to one participant on the call who spoke to the Huffington Post. Alan Patricof, a key Clinton fundraiser--as well as an investor in the Huffington Post--also said there was "absolutely no mention" of a possible vice presidential slot during the conversation, which was moderated by campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe.

"She was terrific," Patricof said. "She told everyone she was 100 percent supportive of Barack Obama and the DNC. She said she wanted everyone on the phone to be supportive -- and said she herself intends to do events on behalf of the nominee and the party. ... She was real upbeat, there wasn't the slightest bit of remorse or recriminations. It was all totally positive, looking forward. I was very impressed, and admired her for that."

Patricof said that while there was no vice presidential speculation, the New York Democrat said she would make herself available for in-person events alongside Obama, and told her donors she hoped they would organize events on his behalf as well.

The potential wedding of Clinton's big donor fundraising operation to Obama's record breaking, grass-roots powered juggernaut has been the subject of much anticipation in Democratic circles, especially considering the Democratic National Committee's latest edict -- prompted by the Obama campaign -- that it will forswear all lobbyist and PAC donations from now through the election. With Sen. John McCain not having hamstrung his party's national committee in the same way, and given the large advantage the Republican National Committee already has in cash-on-hand, it's a testament to Democrats' fiduciary confidence that no one seems to be worried about missing the lobbyists' money.

Craig Holman from Public Citizen's Congress Watch project told the Huffington Post that Obama has little to lose by rejecting lobbyist and PAC direct contributions -- which thus far only accounted for $3.1 million of the DNC's total $77 million raised this year. But he said the impact of the new Obama-initiated DNC policy might have greater consequences down the road when lobbyists are also forbidden from organizing, bundling or otherwise steering donations toward the party. "The only real hard numbers we have right now are direct lobbyist contributions. [The new policy] will present a much greater challenge when lobbyists are not allowed to play an active role in hosting fundraisers, or bundling contributions," Holman said, noting that the new federal disclosure system -- required by ethics reform that Obama championed in the Senate -- has yet to go into effect because of a dormant FEC. That means hard data regarding the extent to which lobbyists are responsible for filling campaign coffers beyond direct contributions remains murky. "I don't think we'll have a good picture of that until later in the summer, when the FEC gets up and going," he said.

Beth Dozoretz, a longtime fixture as a high-dollar Democratic Party fundraiser and a Clinton backer during primary season, said no matter the lobbyists' total impact as fundraisers, "Obama has changed the game" to the extent that they won't be missed, at least for now. "I think while we will lose some amount of money [by banning lobbyist contributions], we will have participation on the Internet that is unparalleled and will more than make up for it. This is not a 'maybe' prediction. He [Obama] has demonstrated his ability like no one else. ... The major donor money proportionate to that of smaller donors is much smaller than it's ever been. I think now that we're all coalescing around our nominee, both candidates' constituents [will continue to donate] from 25 dollars to thousands of dollars. The potential is extraordinary. Having been a fundraiser for all these years, to see the Democrats have this broader reach, I just think it's great for the system and for the party."

Pressed on the question of whether any Clinton backers may wind up harboring residual bad feelings sufficient in scope to keep their pocketbooks closed, Dozoretz said she was certain that wouldn't happen. Dozoretz also brushed off McCain's Tuesday night speech, in which he referenced the pundits and party elders who "decided" Obama would be the nominee, in an apparent attempt to capitalize on sore feelings among Clintonites. "Three words. The. Supreme. Court. You can quote me on that," she said.

"As much as people may feel disheartened at the moment, I am absolutely certain that because of Senator Clinton's leadership, people will rally around Obama quickly and decisively -- with her at the helm of that effort."

I wanted to trust her a few days ago- and would have easily. As it was winding down felt that it WOULD be a good thing if her power base was there to support the ticket.

HOWEVER, Tuesday nite, as so many times before, instead of giving Obama the glory of the moment as was his due, she gave a speech that was.... "I, I, I, I" and "what does Hillary want" etc. It's just the same old thing. ALL ABOUT HILLARY.
How can she, rather they, Bill and Hill, be trusted to climb in the back seat and fall behind Obama's lead?

I WANT to trust her. Yet too many times dreams of trusting them made me feel like Pollyanna. I've had it- don't trust them. Bet Obama doesn't either. Won't be fooled again!!!!

Stroke of genius to have Caroline Kennedy lead the 3 person vetting team for VP.

PetuniaFish:
That really is a stroke of genius. With her years of experience in national politics, Caroline should be able to find the best candidate for VP.
I am tired of this sense of entitlement the Clintons have. At last we can put an end to dynasties in american politics: both the Clinton and Bush dynasities

part 2 (reflections from h-i-ll-arycl-in-ton.com)

i was also surprised by how many of her supporters stated that they are crying all the time or cannot stop crying. they also stated how unfair the media has been to h-i-ll-ary and apparently everyone in the media was in the bag for o-b-ama and the dnc had predetermined that o-ba-ma was the nominee and that is why they are bullying hil-lary and not giving her some time after the last primaries. i guess the posts that would have stated that after feb 5th it was apparent that h-i-lla-ry's loss was very likely got censored. or posts that could have reminded how h-i-ll-ary supported superdelegates' decision to make up their own mind and go against their constituency if they supported her as long it was strategic for her before she changed her tune to play a facade of being a populist.

i sincerely hope for the future of this country that good sense will prevail after people take some to heal. otherwise, we will get the third bush term. i can understand why her supporters might be disappointed but to then go for mccain whose policies so different from h-i-lla-ry's make me question if these people are democrats or just people who supported a candidate without concerns for the issues that will affect not only the current but future generations.

part 1

I went to h-i-llary.com to see how her supporters discussing the end of primaries amongst themselves. I must say that I was extremely disappointed to see that they see their role as voters as either supporting hi-lla-ry for president all the way or switching their votes to mc-cain. No one discussed the loss of reproductive rights, the war in iraq, some of them stated they don't think roe v wade will be overturned. they are informing each other to not do a write-in because that may not hurt o-bama as much but voting for mc-cain will make sure that o-bama will not be the president. i tried to post a respectful post stating that hill-ary's run was historic and perhaps in any other election year she would have won but things didn't work out this way this year. so as democrats we should respect her wishes and get behind o-bama.

my two posts never made it because any posts that seemed even remotely supportive of o-bama are censored. So to post there you have to say that you dont support the dnc and that o-bama cheated and that o-bama is arrogant, liar, racist, sexist, unpatriotic, inexperienced, empty suit, and that you will support mc-cain unless h-ill-ary is the presidential nominee and then you can see your post pop up with many people agreeing with you.

Its only been a few days, they could very well still be venting. Give them time to express their anger/disappointment. I believe in a few weeks with Hillary supporting Obama most of her supporters will be more open to supporting him as well.

trinity29, I checked this out too & you're certainly right about the content of those postings & they're obviously being filtered by someone. The people posting these comments are not Democrats & they obviously care nothing about the big issues that both Obama & Clinton are in complete agreement on. Either they are part of the fanatical Hillary personality cult, are delusional feminists who somehow see this as about women's rights, or are pathetic Republican troublemakers with too much time on their hands. I suspect the latter make up the majority of them. Though they are being allowed to dominate the blog site, I don't believe they represent a very significant segment of Clinton supporters & that the vast majority of those will come around & support Obama. If Clinton truly is throwing her support wholeheartedly to Obama, she will either shut this blogsite down or fire whoever is censoring the postings.

I just visited hc.com and skimmed through the blogs. I was tempted to lose my respect for women. It's understandable that her supporters would still be angry at the brc's vote outcome last Saturday, but it's delusional, vindictive and witchlike to attack Obama. He is too decent of a man to be treated this way by anyone. Not only are they delusional, but they are short-sighted, not even remotely grasping their own consequences if they continue down this path. Evil begets evil! Ugly begets ugly! "Never vote for Obama" begets "Don't even think about a woman running for President!"

I am a STRONG Obama supporter. But if this woman is genuine and they can get Bill past the vetting process I honestly think we could CRUSH any shot the Repugs have at coming close to winning. I'm sorry but I can't deny the power of that ticket!

Do not buy into the spin that it will be a close election. It will be a wipe out for Obama.
The VP job is not about reigning in disaffected fringe voters, it is about working closely with the President for 7 years. Obama is a brilliant inspiring leader and will make HIS decision in due time.

I hear alot of ranting here but I think we should give some time and let the dust settle. Politics is brutal, national politics especially brutal. Hillary and Obama have common views on the most important issues.

Also, there's *no legitimate reason* for anyone to believe Obama will marginalize gays, whites, women or anyone for that fact. The only sources suggesting this are Corporate Media and the fat drug addict on the radio. If you listen to Obama and look at his record, this further confirms he is for *people*, not special interests, racial, religious or gender divides.

If you hear otherwise, consider the sources.

Calling for unity??? I don't think so. Go over to her site and TRY to get a positive comment posted (every comment must be pre-approved) re:healing the wounds between the HC and Obama camps, pleas for party unity. It will NOT get posted, (many from the Obama site have been trying to reach out) though it seems the Obama bashers, race baiters and McCain lovers; the most offensive comments re: Barack and his supporters, are more than welcome. Go read. Same ol' Hillary.

Maybe the momentum of rhetoric and campaigning will take a few days to stop. There's alot of passion here but I think the dust just needs to settle before we can judge what her new intentions are.

i agree. my posts on her site which were respectful did not appear because they are only posting disgruntled supporters who are threatening to vote for mccain and doing everything to ensure that o-b-ama will not win.

I keep seeing this headline -it's a little hard to miss splashed all over the top here- and it feels more insincere every time. Give me money, I'm keeping my delegates, I'm still in this to win (something)...

I want to be optimistic, but I keep waiting for the shoe to drop.

One of two things happened.

Someone, finally, got to Hillary and forced her to accept reality -- or therapy -- and she decided to rejoin the living . . .

Or . . . she's pretendeng to play along with the party, in the hopes that she can still pull off some kind of coup at the convention, or beyond.

i heard that she was told that she will not have the support of the superdelegates at the convention so her carrying on will be futile. she probably some other game plan - i wonder what that might be.

It was the New York delegation coming out in total to support Obama that made her make a halfhearted belated decision.

Some grace now from the Senator can go a long way, but the big news here is the new Democratic fundraising policy. This alone, aside from the issues, might win us the election. I pledge to donate regularly.

That happens as soon as the media's news cycle is off of H.illary. But it's not there yet because she's stretched this out for yet another 3 news cycles. And possibly more, if she hedges in any way, i.e., if she merely suspends her campaign, if she doesn't release her delegates, if she just supports but does not endorse.

Words matter, and the C.lintons have manipulated them in the same way that Bush has, to dupe people into believing that the C.lintons' intentions are something that they aren't.

Words do matter, and Hillary's lies have created animosity in her supporters that I believe it is too late for even her to temper.

They believe Obama stole this nomination, that he is sexist, that he treated her disrespectfully, and that the DNC ruling alone cost her the nomination. They believe she has 18 million votes fair and square.

Her lies have created anger and only she can correct her lies, because her supporters won't listen to anyone else.

Yes, I know some of her "supporters" are Operation Chaos but the damage they do is real.

It's funny how a person who plays her hand so wrong so often, ever could have been condidered for the President of the United States. It's pathetic and sad ,that as the first serious woman candidate ever, after she loses she takes severasl days to pull herself together. That isn't normal (not for the primary)

As far as I can remember, Hillary started with the attacks. Obama only defended himself.
He tried to move on to issues but she refused to do it. I hope he don't pick her for
VP because we are not funding her. She knowingly drove up the debt, now let her deal
with it. Besides, most of her supporters were from Operation Chaos because not one
of them sent her money, which explains her $ 40 million debt.
