Hillary Hillary

On a Thursday afternoon conference call with top donors to her campaign, Sen. Hillary Clinton pledged "total support for Barack Obama," according to one participant on the call who spoke to the Huffington Post. Alan Patricof, a key Clinton fundraiser--as well as an investor in the Huffington Post--also said there was "absolutely no mention" of a possible vice presidential slot during the conversation, which was moderated by campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe.

"She was terrific," Patricof said. "She told everyone she was 100 percent supportive of Barack Obama and the DNC. She said she wanted everyone on the phone to be supportive -- and said she herself intends to do events on behalf of the nominee and the party. ... She was real upbeat, there wasn't the slightest bit of remorse or recriminations. It was all totally positive, looking forward. I was very impressed, and admired her for that."

Patricof said that while there was no vice presidential speculation, the New York Democrat said she would make herself available for in-person events alongside Obama, and told her donors she hoped they would organize events on his behalf as well.

The potential wedding of Clinton's big donor fundraising operation to Obama's record breaking, grass-roots powered juggernaut has been the subject of much anticipation in Democratic circles, especially considering the Democratic National Committee's latest edict -- prompted by the Obama campaign -- that it will forswear all lobbyist and PAC donations from now through the election. With Sen. John McCain not having hamstrung his party's national committee in the same way, and given the large advantage the Republican National Committee already has in cash-on-hand, it's a testament to Democrats' fiduciary confidence that no one seems to be worried about missing the lobbyists' money.

Craig Holman from Public Citizen's Congress Watch project told the Huffington Post that Obama has little to lose by rejecting lobbyist and PAC direct contributions -- which thus far only accounted for $3.1 million of the DNC's total $77 million raised this year. But he said the impact of the new Obama-initiated DNC policy might have greater consequences down the road when lobbyists are also forbidden from organizing, bundling or otherwise steering donations toward the party. "The only real hard numbers we have right now are direct lobbyist contributions. [The new policy] will present a much greater challenge when lobbyists are not allowed to play an active role in hosting fundraisers, or bundling contributions," Holman said, noting that the new federal disclosure system -- required by ethics reform that Obama championed in the Senate -- has yet to go into effect because of a dormant FEC. That means hard data regarding the extent to which lobbyists are responsible for filling campaign coffers beyond direct contributions remains murky. "I don't think we'll have a good picture of that until later in the summer, when the FEC gets up and going," he said.

Beth Dozoretz, a longtime fixture as a high-dollar Democratic Party fundraiser and a Clinton backer during primary season, said no matter the lobbyists' total impact as fundraisers, "Obama has changed the game" to the extent that they won't be missed, at least for now. "I think while we will lose some amount of money [by banning lobbyist contributions], we will have participation on the Internet that is unparalleled and will more than make up for it. This is not a 'maybe' prediction. He [Obama] has demonstrated his ability like no one else. ... The major donor money proportionate to that of smaller donors is much smaller than it's ever been. I think now that we're all coalescing around our nominee, both candidates' constituents [will continue to donate] from 25 dollars to thousands of dollars. The potential is extraordinary. Having been a fundraiser for all these years, to see the Democrats have this broader reach, I just think it's great for the system and for the party."

Pressed on the question of whether any Clinton backers may wind up harboring residual bad feelings sufficient in scope to keep their pocketbooks closed, Dozoretz said she was certain that wouldn't happen. Dozoretz also brushed off McCain's Tuesday night speech, in which he referenced the pundits and party elders who "decided" Obama would be the nominee, in an apparent attempt to capitalize on sore feelings among Clintonites. "Three words. The. Supreme. Court. You can quote me on that," she said.

"As much as people may feel disheartened at the moment, I am absolutely certain that because of Senator Clinton's leadership, people will rally around Obama quickly and decisively -- with her at the helm of that effort."

If Obama loses, Hillary knows she will become Joe Lieberman. And she is right about this. We the liberals will make sure this happens if we smell any halfheartedness in her and her supporters' effort. So start campaigning for Obama to save your boss' relevance in American politics. This is that simple.

Come on, that is one persons comment and you are acting as if the entire Obama's supporters said it. Anyone and everyone that has heard Obama speak or researched his record knows that he takes responsibility for his own actions.

IF Obama loses then there was something the majority of voters did not like, support or want. Blaming Clinton if he loses is childish, immature thinking of the "IT is somebody else's fault if things doing come out my way" mode that is way too pervasive here and in society today. If he is smart enough to take the nomination then to blame someone else if he loses is certainly disrespectful of his gifts. It also means that if he wins it is not just his terrific efforts that caused that. It is time to grow up and decide if Obama is truly responsible fo rhis own fate or not. I prefer to think that where one gets is based on their own hard work and a pinch of luck, but if I fail, then I know there was someting I failed to anticpate in my planning, or I did not work hard enough and maybe everything just did not come together. My self respect is high because I did not spend my life blaming other people for when things did not go my way. Try it. It frankly should not require her to do any campaigning if he is so trememdous because he should be able to bring people in in 5 months. I cannot believe you think so poorly of Barack Obama to not give him full credit for whatever happens next when you were likely so quick to tout his successful strategy prior to Tuesday night.

She is brilliant. Smarter than Bill (she got him elected don't forget) and would be great as the Senate Majority Leader or in the Cabinet but if not VP then get her Harry Reid's job since he is a wimp suckup. HRC is a fighter and will fight to get Obama's legislation through since it is essentially, her agenda too.

Bill should be our rep to the UN and roam ambassador to places like Darfur, Sudan, Middle East. He is still the most loved American around the planet. They don't care about bj's and crap like that. They know what he's done before and after his Presidency. In terms of money raised for the poor, displaced (Tsunami), AIDS infected in Africa -- he has raised more money than any other president in history.

In my book, given the stakes and closeness of the race, I think the democratic campaign was overall exemplary in its restraint. The media had nothing more than the little jabs to go after and blow out of proportion. Some people, perhaps the younger democrats who haven't seen how typical campaigns are run perhaps thought it was nasty. Once you put things in perspective, I really don't think it was. Such seasoned grownup politicians can come together. I never doubted that. In fact, this long primary increased my respect for both Obama and Clinton. I honestly think that they both came out of the primary as stronger, more seasoned, and better "defined" politicians.

Lastly, I am starting to think that Clinton may be a more useful asset as something other than the mostly ceremonial veep spot. She has a lot more to offer.

If Hillary runs as an independent, she's doomed; there's also no possibility of a do-over in 2012. She needs the african american vote. The clinton campaign has already made several missteps that have cost them much of their support there; tanking Obama would be unforgivable.

Further, the youth vote that Obama turned out will only be bigger and madder in four years - are they going to support someone that betrayed their candidate?

Unfortunately the folks blogging on Hillary's website are anything but supportive. They seem to be as spoiled and childish as their candidate, with the majority claiming they left the party and will never vote for Obama.

I hope her supporters enjoy the next four years of McCain. They will enjoy his endless war, more conservatives on the Supreme Court, and no chance of health care for all.

You have to consider that much of that is manufactured by the C'linton campaign itself, and is not real.

I am sure that there are negligible numbers of Harriet Christians, but there are polls now out that show that while about 63% of her supporters would like her on the ticket, they would vote for O'bama if he didn't put her on the ticket.

The C'lintons' behavior through this campaign has been shameful, and there have been many dirty tricks. Flooding the campaign website with posts like that for the purpose of leverage with O'bama isn't off the beam.

I saw that on her web sight to. It's real sad! Her supporters are full of anger and hate and pain. But her las speech gave them false hope in going to denver or some dumb thing like going to Independent to run on her own. she just didn't prepare them to lose! We talked about it here often of loseing, and obama kept saying he'd support her if he lost! He's a true leader, and he had us prepared just in case. But, she has polorized her supporters! Made them believe it was Obama, the DNC and us supporters cheating her some how out of this nomanation! I feel bad for her supporters. She should be on that web sight and telling these supporters that it's over, and that it's important that they support her and her party even when she lose's! This wasn't about here or obama or Mccain! It's about our country, and turning it around and getting back on our feet again, and getting the American dream back for our kids and grandkids. She just left her supporters hateing, ranting and in pain! She didn't give them hope, peace, dignity, graciouseness and a dream for the future. She stole it from them, and made them believe only if she won would they be truely happy and at peace with themselfs. How sad is that!

It shows what true leadership is. Obama has been so incredibly gracious to Clinton. In some cases it sounded like he was endorsing her. He went beyond nice considering the way she, her husband and her campaign have been acting. If I never see or hear Hillary, Bill or Terry McAuliffe again I will happy enough. That crew is so divisive, with their lies, hate and delusion.

I think you're right she has to tell her supporters:

"If you were going to vote for me, I INSIST that you vote for Obama. A vote for McCain or no vote at all when you would have voted for me would be an insult to all that I have accomplished"

or something like that

That's really funny. Obama supporters sound like they're skeptical now whether Obama can convince those 18 million Clinton supporters to vote for him, on his own.

Sure, but read the responses on her websites blog...

They are not good. They are acting like "party insiders" stole the election and forced her out. Please, if she was ahead by one delegate she would pull every trick in the book. Rules are rules and Obama won fair and square. Votes count, caucuses count, money raised counts. Not counting Michigan, Obama won more popular votes(which Hill herself said would not count prior to the primary).

Looks like she attracted supporters just like her... spoiled rotten children who don't like to play be the rules. They can grab their toys and play in McCain's sandbox. See what that gets them. More war, less jobs, no health care, no roe v. wade, tax cuts for the rich.

In case you don't know, BO is the "presumptive" nominee because there has been no ballot yet. That's done at the convention. That's when it's official. It has to do with the arcane campaign laws and monies raised and spent before and after the conventions.

REDEEM herself? Oh, puhleeeze!!! It's that arrogant attitude that have turned so many off to Obama and his campaign.

I'm sorry, but the logic she used in making some of her arguments was so tortured as to be ridiculous. Yes, she needs to redeem herself.

Example:
"I won the popular vote, if you give me the michigan votes but don't give Obama any because he followed party rules and took his name off the ballot, and if you don't count the Obama states that had caucuses because caucuses aren't voting, and if you don't count the states that had votes that Obama won but the votes were nonbinding, like the Washington state primary..."

became

"I won the popular vote!"

Yes, she does have some things to apologize for. Is that terminology more acceptable?

While we're at it, here's some more evidence:

if you can find me a republican clip with obama saying stuff about clinton, I'll retract my opinion that she has to redeem herself.

She needs to tell her supporters the truth - about the delegate count, and that he had the nomination clinched even if the DNC rules committee gave her 100% of what she demanded.

There is no excuse for her to be out there telling lies that are very damaging to the party.
