Hillary Hillary

On a Thursday afternoon conference call with top donors to her campaign, Sen. Hillary Clinton pledged "total support for Barack Obama," according to one participant on the call who spoke to the Huffington Post. Alan Patricof, a key Clinton fundraiser--as well as an investor in the Huffington Post--also said there was "absolutely no mention" of a possible vice presidential slot during the conversation, which was moderated by campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe.

"She was terrific," Patricof said. "She told everyone she was 100 percent supportive of Barack Obama and the DNC. She said she wanted everyone on the phone to be supportive -- and said she herself intends to do events on behalf of the nominee and the party. ... She was real upbeat, there wasn't the slightest bit of remorse or recriminations. It was all totally positive, looking forward. I was very impressed, and admired her for that."

Patricof said that while there was no vice presidential speculation, the New York Democrat said she would make herself available for in-person events alongside Obama, and told her donors she hoped they would organize events on his behalf as well.

The potential wedding of Clinton's big donor fundraising operation to Obama's record breaking, grass-roots powered juggernaut has been the subject of much anticipation in Democratic circles, especially considering the Democratic National Committee's latest edict -- prompted by the Obama campaign -- that it will forswear all lobbyist and PAC donations from now through the election. With Sen. John McCain not having hamstrung his party's national committee in the same way, and given the large advantage the Republican National Committee already has in cash-on-hand, it's a testament to Democrats' fiduciary confidence that no one seems to be worried about missing the lobbyists' money.

Craig Holman from Public Citizen's Congress Watch project told the Huffington Post that Obama has little to lose by rejecting lobbyist and PAC direct contributions -- which thus far only accounted for $3.1 million of the DNC's total $77 million raised this year. But he said the impact of the new Obama-initiated DNC policy might have greater consequences down the road when lobbyists are also forbidden from organizing, bundling or otherwise steering donations toward the party. "The only real hard numbers we have right now are direct lobbyist contributions. [The new policy] will present a much greater challenge when lobbyists are not allowed to play an active role in hosting fundraisers, or bundling contributions," Holman said, noting that the new federal disclosure system -- required by ethics reform that Obama championed in the Senate -- has yet to go into effect because of a dormant FEC. That means hard data regarding the extent to which lobbyists are responsible for filling campaign coffers beyond direct contributions remains murky. "I don't think we'll have a good picture of that until later in the summer, when the FEC gets up and going," he said.

Beth Dozoretz, a longtime fixture as a high-dollar Democratic Party fundraiser and a Clinton backer during primary season, said no matter the lobbyists' total impact as fundraisers, "Obama has changed the game" to the extent that they won't be missed, at least for now. "I think while we will lose some amount of money [by banning lobbyist contributions], we will have participation on the Internet that is unparalleled and will more than make up for it. This is not a 'maybe' prediction. He [Obama] has demonstrated his ability like no one else. ... The major donor money proportionate to that of smaller donors is much smaller than it's ever been. I think now that we're all coalescing around our nominee, both candidates' constituents [will continue to donate] from 25 dollars to thousands of dollars. The potential is extraordinary. Having been a fundraiser for all these years, to see the Democrats have this broader reach, I just think it's great for the system and for the party."

Pressed on the question of whether any Clinton backers may wind up harboring residual bad feelings sufficient in scope to keep their pocketbooks closed, Dozoretz said she was certain that wouldn't happen. Dozoretz also brushed off McCain's Tuesday night speech, in which he referenced the pundits and party elders who "decided" Obama would be the nominee, in an apparent attempt to capitalize on sore feelings among Clintonites. "Three words. The. Supreme. Court. You can quote me on that," she said.

"As much as people may feel disheartened at the moment, I am absolutely certain that because of Senator Clinton's leadership, people will rally around Obama quickly and decisively -- with her at the helm of that effort."

Couldn't believe my ears listening to Stephanie Miller this morning, when they played the clip of Harriet Christian on Neil Cavuto's show. She asked how can we allow 99% of "the blacks" to vote for Obama when they don't know anything about him?

How can we "allow" them? Allow? I missed the part of the Voting Rights Act where everyone gets one vote except for "the blacks" who must get permission from chain-smoking old bitties like Harriet.

_______________________________________________________________

She probably meant "allow" in the sense of nominating Obama insteadof Hillary ... which *allows* African Americans to vote for him, though of course they could have written his name in if Hillary had the nomination, as Harriet wants to write in Hillary's name.

Unfortunately, it's the same patronizing attitude (often unconscious) that her generation (even liberals) has often had to African Americans, namely that they are like children who don't know enough to understand what's good for them.

Although part of me finds this woman's attitude repulsive, I also feel some sympathy for her. The dream of a woman president has been in her heart probably for most of her life, and now she is seeing it snatched away. And she is old enough that she truly may not have another chance to see it happen.

It's not easy to see one of your fondest dreams shattered, and the bitterness she expresses is simply human.

I hope she'll come around and see that an Obama candidacy is every bit as revolutionary as a Hillary candidacy would have been, and that helping McCain win just out of spite is like spitting in the eye of the very people whose dreams we might presume she's shared all her life. That's what I hope, but it probably won't happen. She doesn't seem like a very flexible individual.

Don't be fooled, she is just keeping the spotlight on herself. She is holding her all telling event on Saturday. A day with no Hardball, Countdown or any of them. Which means, she will dominate the news on Monday, Tuesday and probably Wednesday.

By then, she would have thought of something else to keep the camera on her. She is "Not Going to Be Ignored, Dan" She is getting so much mileage out of Obama's win.

Time to get back to America.

Hillary would make me very happy if she started to attack McCain. That's when I believe. I'm very confident that she will - but - I will reserve by adulation until I see the first volley from Hillary into the McCain Camp of myths and mysticism.

And that (my friends) is how I feel.

By the way ... we listed 3 reasons today why Obama should NOT do Town Halls with McCain.

Please give it a rest, at least for awhile.

How about stepping back and let Obama handle McCain the way he wants?

Because you are sensible and have learned her character from observation and deductive reasoning. There is an angle to this. Not a smart one, but it's always there. She might even pull the okey-doke and announce she will take her case to Denver. I wouldn't put it past her. This is about her and Bill trying to avoid the Peter Paul trial. It's on hold because of her campaigning. Now that's it's over, the judge might step it up.

This link above, from ABCNEWS POLITALPUNCH blog, shows how much the GOP wants to continue this feud between the Clinton and Obama supportes. Be well advised, Democrats: "Divide and Rule" is the GOP's only prayer in this election.

She already has enough cash in her campaign fund to pay off her debt. She was saving it for the GE that didn't happen.

Cash on Hand: $29,666,453
Debts: $19,480,893

General election funds cannot be used to pay off primary debt. The debt is real.

On the other hand, I would hate to see teenagers selling their bicycles to pay the multi-millionairess back--she still has $95 million with Bill-- or to pay Mark Penn for his bad advice. As I understand it, of the $19 mllion--and it is probably more, possibly even much more, because the last data we've seen was for April--$11 million is self-debt and approx. $5 million is for Penn and Co. I have no problem helping with Hillary's debts to all vendors except Penn. As a regular and sometimes maximum donor to Dems, I will not support paying Hillary back. That was her decision and she will have to live with the consequences.

The best thing she can do now is release her remaining supporters, take a vacation to the Greek Isles to rest up, and go back to the Senate to do the job NY elected her to do.

She should also correct some of the lies she has been telling. There are people who think Obama stole this nomination, thanks to her - without any facts to support it, of course.

what is this delay, this game, really all about?

Ginnypoo don't be bitter and don't take it personally. There's a legitimate reason to be upset with how she's handling this. This is a good start but like it or not, support her or not, she has to work to convince her supporters that supporting Obama is in our best interests. Believe me, a lot of us complaining about Hillary today can forgive her in a heart beat. You need to do that as well. If you support Hillary, stay a Democrat and support Obama. We come together, no hard feelings. We have a country to save.

He's strictlly for war and knows little about the economy. He wants to play a catch up game now, but it to little to late. It isn't something you learn in a few months. You don't pick a V.P. to do the President job and thats what hed have to do. I am simply glad Hillary is know faceing the trueth, and acting like a demacrate at last! She has a lot to offer, but wouldn't want her as a V. P. for sure to try to over shadow the President Obama. She would be good on His Health care cabinet, if she'd listen to him about how he wants it done!

Hillary needs to have a big (and I do mean big!!) session with her supporters in W VA and Kentucky and have a big rally to support Obama. That is where it will be toughest to bring her supporters over to Obama.

Hey, and I would not mind at all if Obama's campaign paid for it all!!! As long as Hillary was on her best behavior and was absolutely sincere in her intentions and none of this touting how wonderful a President she would have made or no plugging for VP - strictly going in it for Obama and explaining to her supporters why they should now support Obama.

The problem is, untill she makes her announcement she's out for sure and there is going to be no more diversity and smear from her people will be on edge. Until I can go to Hillary clinton .com and find her talking about how they should get behind obama, and encourageing her supporters to come around, I won't feel confortable haveing her out there around obama or his supporters. You can't blame people for feeling uneasy yet, after her negative campagne and undignified speech of not give obama a hands up over his nomination.
