Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield appears to be having financial problems.

A legal notice that appeared in a local newspaper shows his Fayette County estate is under foreclosure. The home worth an estimated $10 million is set to be auctioned by a bank on July 1.

The mother of one of Holyfield's nine children says he has missed two child-support payments. Toi Irvin, who lives in Clayton County, filed a petition for contempt in Fayette County Superior Court on behalf of her 10-year-old son.

Irvin says she was told by Holyfield's representatives not to expect the payment for May and June totaling $6,000.

The 45-year-old Holyfield has declined comment on the child-support allegations and the foreclosure.

Holyfield last fought on Oct. 13, 2007. He has been trying to secure another heavyweight championship.

TMZ, who report he has made over $200 million in his career, has the legal papers.

I remember him once visiting the crew at Monday Night Foosball. He sat in the booth smiling when they talked about his upcoming fight with the chump outdoors in the ballpark with his take at $ten mil. It had fallen through, alas, and Hollyfield said, smiling, that's all right. "I can make that in three fights."

I hear now he and Ed Backupman are signed on as guests in the new Battle of the Foreclosed Stars in a reality Monopoly game using real pawns and actual hotels and holdings.

Another sad story from the world of professional boxing. As a former youth boxing coach I remember how we had to have our boxers avoid the professional managers etc. selling their wares to lure prospects into the pro ranks. It is a seedy business with no real protection for the boxers in regards to the economic and physical aspects. Holyfield's is a high profile problem that is endemic to the sport. Without a national governing body that brings all the states rules and regs. together the sport will continue to flounder. We must rid the sport of the "alphabet soup" rating bodies and insure each boxer has the proper medical, financial, and training expertise available. Larry Holmes is a prime example of a fighter who had those things in place and today has a thriving business that he oversees. I hate to say it, but it is true, that boxers need to protect themselves against themselves and not all of them have the tools to do so. A national commissioner (czar) under federal regulations and union for fighters would be a start.

To borrow from comedian Bill Engvald, 'You can't fix stupid."

Anybody who squanders the kind of money Holyfield made needs adult supervision. It had nothing to do with the negative aspects of boxing. His downfall came outside the boxing ring.

I would have bet my meager paycheck that Evander was headed for trouble when he built that second mansion, his ex-wife being awarded possession of his first palace.

Like many well-paid pro athletes, he thought that river of cash would be flowing forever. It never does. The money stops when the person can't maintain his level of performance.

Preparing for the inevitable end of an athletic career requires no great economic genius. He should not have spent every cent he made. He could have saved some of it and still lived like a king.

HIs financial advisors should be sued for malpractice.

Here is more evidence pointing to the fact that making millions of dollars neither brings joy nor solves the problems in your life.

I think he'd be slightly happier if he had not lost it. And I doubt you would turn down 200 million dollars, sorry, but you wouldn't.

This guy is certifiable. He has been beaten senseless. The fact that he still believes he can be champ is just beyond ignorant. Someone should give his head an MRI and see if there's anything in there. 9 kids I believe with 9 women. But every time he opens his mouth it's Jesus this and Jesus that. Do me a favor Evander, shut up and get a job. I hear Ceasar's is looking for a Casino greeter. Or go rassle a grizzly bear for real.

Easy to talk. Who the hell are you to judge Evander Holyfield? For that matter, who the hell are you at all?

Do you know the circumstances of Evander's life, aside from what you read above? No? I thought not.

Go jerk yourself a soda. Better yet, "rassle a grizzly bear" of your own, just to prove what a man you are.

"20 years ago you were hard and nasty and you had this cast iron jaw; but the worst thing happened to you that could happen to any fighter, you became civilized." Too much money and drama. You traded your passion( fighting), for glory( money and titles). This man probabaly had two of the top ten best fights in history. The first Dwight Muhammad Quawi fight where they fought 15 rounds and Evander threw about 1,500 punches and mostly power punches. The next was the first Bowe fight where he lost, but they both almost average 100 punches and many power shots(Heavyweights y'all). The man always came in in fantastic shape and put on a good show. He always gave Jesus credit after fights. I wish him well.

Holyfield was one of my favority boxers since seeing him in the Olympics.
I have no clue how someone loses that much money (also Mike Tyson).
His house was apparently 55,000 sq ft (which is ridiculous) so I'm sure that didn't help.

How? When will millionaires and people in general start living within their means?

Just because your neighbors got it doesn't mean you have to have it. Just because the idea of owning a ferrari and a big house intrigues you, doesn't mean you should get them.

No wonder Evander is still fighting. At $200 million gross over 20 yrs, he earned more than Michael Jordan, endorsements NOT included, and Majic Johnson.

Majic and Jordan's estimated worth is $600 million each.

He was over-rated. Mike Tyson was 10 times the champion Holyfield was.

I would pay to see Tyson fight again... I never paid to see Holyfield fight even in his prime, except when he ungloriously beat a washed-up Tyson.

if you take into account the shady dealings of promoters and uncle sam's cut, he likely received much less than 200 mil. over his career. that also accounts for why he's still boxing at the ripe, old age of 45, even though he has absolutely no chance against elite heavyweights.

the picture is also fitting. he was 'knocked out' by fiscal irresponsibility!
