Women who use mobile phones when pregnant are more likely to give birth to children with behavioral problems, according to a study of more than 13,000 children.

Pregnant women using the handsets just two or three times a day was enough to raise the risk of their babies developing hyperactivity and difficulties with conduct, emotions and relationships by the time they reached school age.

It seems to me that there could be an alternative explanation for this. Is it not possible that the behavioral problems associated with the children of the mothers who use cell phones are more related to the psychological impact of observing divided attention in the behavioral role model: are they impacted in early childhood by the continually changing contexts of the mother's speech and action rather than physiologically altered by signals? To put it another way, the lifestyle and behavior of the mothers who do not use cell phones (being at this point almost certainly in the minority) would be such as to impart on to their children the psychological and consequently behavioral patterns of the undistracted. And yes, I read the Doctor's comments about how it is not just cell phones but wi-fi and all information carrying wireless signals, including cordless phones in the home. The question of affecting mitochondrial DNA is an interesting one, but I think a lot more research needs to be done before it can be concluded that "this radiation can easily flip certain genes in the mitochondria." The autism question is even more compelling, as it is suggested that the radiation from these wireless signals magnifies the effect of vaccines and heavy metal exposure that are traditionally blamed. I am not nearly scientifically literate enough to make a determination in this area, but I would want to see a LOT more research before I stopped using anything with a wireless signal.
