Vanity Fair To Gina Gershon: No Correction To Bill Clinton Story

TMZ reports:

Vanity Fair is standing by its story insinuating that Bill Clinton had an affair with Gina Gershon.

In a statement to TMZ, V.F. honcho Beth Kseniak says, "Todd Purdum's article does not indicate that former President Bill Clinton had an improper relationship with Gina Gershon. The story merely examines the concerns of some of Clinton's aides about reports of his behavior. We don't believe that any correction is warranted."

Earlier this week, Gershon had her lawyers fire off a letter to the venerable publication:

The demand letter claims the article "outrageously insinuates that Ms. Gershon has had an inappropriate sexual relationship with President Clinton. This is absolutely false."

The letter demands "a retraction and correction."

In the July Vanity Fair, a profile on Clinton mentions "more recent high-end Hollywood dinner-party gossip that Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California."

Now you hear the occasional name come up, like Gina Gershon, and more than not, it's probably true. Purdum is just reporting. Don't kill the messenger.

This is one of the reasons why I don't respect Hillary. I left my ex because he had an affair and I think especially since this is not a one time thing but over and over again. For her to stay with him said to me she thinks its okay to put up with that. Its like telling women not to respect themselves and to put up with it.

It was so obvious to me she stayed for political reasons to be able to get elected. I actually would have voted for her and respected her if she left him.

The VF article is merely a harbinger of what kinds of things we could have expected to see in the media on a regular basis if Hillary Clinton had won the Dem nomination. There is much worse coming down the pipe, too. The Clintons are very wily findraisers; often their strategies flirt with the law, and a lawsuit alleging fraud is upcoming.

Democratic superdelegates were wise to get behind Obama. I hope he is wise enough not to put the Clintons on the ticket with him. If Hillary wasn't married to Bill, it would be different. Alas, she is.

A correction is warranted. People today talk in legalese, parsing words and meanings. The reading public knew exactly what the writer was inferring: "That. Bill Clinton was having an extra marital affair." At minimum, the writer could have said in reply for a correction: "I I mislead someone it was not my intent. Some scrap like that. You know...BS!
