TMZ reports:

Vanity Fair is standing by its story insinuating that Bill Clinton had an affair with Gina Gershon.

In a statement to TMZ, V.F. honcho Beth Kseniak says, "Todd Purdum's article does not indicate that former President Bill Clinton had an improper relationship with Gina Gershon. The story merely examines the concerns of some of Clinton's aides about reports of his behavior. We don't believe that any correction is warranted."

Earlier this week, Gershon had her lawyers fire off a letter to the venerable publication:

The demand letter claims the article "outrageously insinuates that Ms. Gershon has had an inappropriate sexual relationship with President Clinton. This is absolutely false."

The letter demands "a retraction and correction."

In the July Vanity Fair, a profile on Clinton mentions "more recent high-end Hollywood dinner-party gossip that Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California."

Why does this matter? Don't we have more important things to worry about then who Bill is sleeping with or if he was cheating on Hillary. Hell as long as he ain't sleeping with my dog or kids, I'm iffy on the wife and the cats does it mean anything. I'm just flipped out about our economy, $4.50 a gallon gas and Dr. Evil, I mean VP Cheney with his puppet Howdy Doody, that would be George Bushie screwing up the planet. And yes Gina Gershon is hot. The reporter who this story is married to Bill's former press secratery Dee Dee Myers. I bet it's true. Still, it doesn't matter. We in America have bigger fish to fry. And 1 more thing, okay 2, Go Obama! And make Hillary a Supreme Court Justice. She'd be a good one. Right down the center!

Correction....you sound like a horny old dog since it's the female who goes in heat. Your attitude towards women is part of the reason Hillary created such a huge following of women. It's rude and demeaning and the only women that like it are women who are insecure about themselves.

Wished then (the impeachment) and wish now that America would grow up and leave people's sex lives alone. I thought the Clinton's marriage should have been left for the Clintons to deal with. To me, the running with shady money men on their private jets is the real story.

That's why you would never make a good politician. Honesty, integrity, loyalty... those are age old gifts to those fortunate (and wise) enough to follow. Cheating is a moral issue. It's not a good character trait. Quite the opposite. You put up with cheating. I hope it happens to you. Karma:)

And you are kidding yourself if you think he's the lone ranger on the adultry tip in D.C.. You would be hard pressed to find ANY politician who has not had at least one if not many affairs. To believe otherwise is just naivete or hypocrisy. I'm not saying it's right but honey they all do it; these are nerdy guys who have gained a little power and money...they are getting chicks for the first time in their lives, they can't help themselves!

I agree with you to a point. My sense is that they have a dynamic with which they can live. However, there is a pattern to Bill's behavior that is alarming. It is not the sexual/affairs that bother me because I do agree, that is Hillary's issue; not mine. It is the lying; blustering "conspiracy"; "how dare they"; "I never had sexual relations" fine-tooth justifications; etc., etc., etc. that he uses. There is no sense that he realizes what appropriate behavior or appropriate business dealings or business associates, etc., etc. really are. All of it does seem to add up to a sociopathic personality issue.

My bottom line sense about Bill Clinton is that the root of his negatives is also why he makes such a good politician (i.e., the root of his positives). What we may have seen during this last election however, is that the scale is no longer balanced and his negatives now have the upper hand.

Clinton would not have been impeached if he had shut up and let it pass. And it would have.

He impeached himself when he lied to the public and lied again under oath.

No individual AT ALL getting a government paycheck has an absolute right to personal privacy. In addition individuals whose careers are based on public approval (actors, politicians, lawyers, teachers, doctors) are legitimately scrutinized on private behaviors. When the public is the benefactor, the public has an ABSOLUTE right to any knowledge it can get.

Period.

Invited to a party of 15 at the last minute as a single hot woman with an unaccompanied ex-president in a private residence. And the point of this was? Not that I would blame the guy--hey, if they are going to accuse me anyway...

He is the reason she lost. It was rich when he talked about how the press was "disrespecting" Hillary. Wasn't he the expert in disrespecting Hillary? Well, I think so! Gina...who cares. His libido is becoming a bit of a bore.

She lost in Iowa -- plain and simple -- and you can blame Mark Penn for that. If Obama had lost in Iowa, he'd have lost South Carolina and he'd have dropped out.

So that bad guy had the nerve to run for president and beat a republican so their plan got set back in time and golly he did it again! A 500 billion budget surplus with an energetic economy, low unemployment and a reasonable reputation in the world and we had to change from the dems to the republicans for what reason? Could it have been a loose zipper that out weighed common sense? Never thought that the republicans could come back to haunt you when your moral toes had been so crushed by a zipper. And still it goes on. I guess that the moral minority doesn't have to pay the high gas prices and stand in the employment lines. Well I it looks like the joke was on all of us. How warm is that indignation that you were clutching to your heart? A lot of you voted these monsters in or didn't vote. Gee thanks!

...and there you have it! "I guess that the moral minority doesn't have to pay the high gas prices and stand in the employment lines."

Yes, when their "church" rakes in millions as they continue to feign morality, one neither cares about what a gallon of gas costs nor the pain caused, nor feels any of the pain of unemployment...and that applies as well to the multitude of millionaire representatives in DC as well. These people have a staff to fill their tank, buy their bread..and they are guaranteed a handsome pension and health care even if they only serve one term. Tough road to hoe, huh?

Just because he was good in the 90s, it doesn't mean he still is now. His words and actions lately have shown that he doesn't have the mind he used to. Furthermore, he made a choice to do shady dealings (CAFTA, Dubai, Kazakhstan.) Don't know if he was always like this, or it's new, but it's not what we need representing our party.

I always wonder how it is that a president gets tied to an "economy"? You hear economists over ,and over again, claim that is not the case. That there is very little a president can do to seriously affect an economy. Policy maybe a different matter entirely. Those policies take time to take effect, and the repercussion take even longer. Who are the policy makers? The president can merely sign off on policy, not create. The president can of course promote, and encourage policy, as well as veto. Speaking of Clinton didn't he promote and sign off on NAFTA? What happened because of that? Clinton was the one to essentially veto the Kennedy/Hilliary health care as well. There is of course Bin Laden. Clinton had ample knowledge, and opportunity to go after Bin Laden, well we know the rest of the story. When you get the warm and fuzzies remembering the Clinton years, try to look to the real record of Bill Clinton, and how it is affecting all of us today. It only takes a minute on google. See who the the policy makers and promoters are. Those folks get off scott free. Check them out in your own state and local government as well. Don't let them get away with things like NAFTA, don't let go them under the radar. Notice I did not bring up a drop of scandal here. I think that the scandal always clouds the real issues, and is not fair to us.

OK I will take a shot at this. First, I would like to point out that economists are just a bunch of gossips that haven't been able to forecast anything in my life time. You have to understand that they are of predominately republican business school of thought. A free economy does require some governmental controls ie the mortgage problem. All of the talk lately has been on how the federal government is going to put safe guards in place to prevent this in the future. They were in place when Clinton was there. Nafta was put in place under Clinton but after he left office, the republicans warped it in their favor. The republicans campaigned against the CIA all during Clinton's two terms and we had nothing but a shell of the organization when he left office. Go back and check out all of the hassle he had to go into Bosnia and the criticism of our intelligence then. Do you not remember all of the discussion of this when 9/11 happened? During the two terms that Bush was in the republicans removed a large number of governmental checks and balances on big business. I agree, talking about the issues is the way to go but as for the scandals, it was all fabrication or they would have impeached him for something other then a zipper.

Dude. There is no way Bill could score with a woman that hot. Though before this article, I've actually never heard of Gina Gershon. What movie (s) is she known for ?

In any case, I think she should hold a press conference just to clarify: "I did not have sexual relations with that man, Bill Clinton ! "

I sure miss the United States when Clinton was president. The rag insinuates they were having an affair. They could prove their insinuations, but they don't. They are seeming to stand by what some people were saying about what what they thought about what some other people had said.

I am so glad that we don't have to deal with this crap for the next 4 to 8 years. Let's retire Bill to a stud farm, and just let him be. I think now that Hill's presidential ambitions are over, let her dump the SOB, and come out as muff diving Diva, and set the tone for a new 21st identity politics -- gender and sexual identity is the front line of our civil rights struggles, and Hillary can be there. She's got the 'tood, and got the anecdotes of an awful, philandering husband that has put her through so much suffereing... yada yada yada.

There, everyone is happy, and we can go back to running the country.
