TMZ reports:

Vanity Fair is standing by its story insinuating that Bill Clinton had an affair with Gina Gershon.

In a statement to TMZ, V.F. honcho Beth Kseniak says, "Todd Purdum's article does not indicate that former President Bill Clinton had an improper relationship with Gina Gershon. The story merely examines the concerns of some of Clinton's aides about reports of his behavior. We don't believe that any correction is warranted."

Earlier this week, Gershon had her lawyers fire off a letter to the venerable publication:

The demand letter claims the article "outrageously insinuates that Ms. Gershon has had an inappropriate sexual relationship with President Clinton. This is absolutely false."

The letter demands "a retraction and correction."

In the July Vanity Fair, a profile on Clinton mentions "more recent high-end Hollywood dinner-party gossip that Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California."

That article was crap. Their response proves their intent, and their careful construction toward that end.

I'm often shocked at the extents to which people will go in their hatred of the Clintons. And, I admire that they are still standing. It gives me hope.

The alleged sex things are much less interesting and much less important than Bill's financial shenanigans.

How could Hillary be president (or VP) when her husband is a paid lobbyist for a foreign government? (Colombia).

How badly would the Republicans have trashed them over Colombia/Dubai/CAFTA/Burkle? How badly would Hillary have lost once Rove started in on the missing 2007 tax return....the mysteriously earned $109 million dollars....the hidden library donors list....Bill's jet-setting lifestyle with his high-roller slightly shady business pals?

....the uranium deal he brokered for his billionaire buddy with the government of Kazakhstan?

Obama never mentioned any of this. The Republicans would not be so genteel. In a month, Hillary's campaign--with the accompanying media drumbeat for McCain--would have been toast.

If you are an ex president and are trying to bully the nation into electing your wife, the least you can do is be discrete with your infidelities. It is just embarassing for Bill and bimbos to be making headlines.

I'd take ANY of the Clinton scandals over any good moment in the Bush white house.

Blowjobs don't compare to torture, unnecessary trillion dollar wars, lack of response to Katrina, outing a CIA Agent etc.

If Barack gets an illiegal blowjob every day and lies about it - it would be better than this President on a good day.

Serial falanderers such as Bill Clinton keep doing what they got to do. Anyone who thinks he has kept it in his pants all these years needs a dose of reality check.

A story told about Kennedy was that he said that if he didn't have nonmarital sex with a woman every day he would get a headache! I think your right, philandering is a chronic affliction and there is no cure

Bill Clinton is a successful bottom feeder, but loaded with toxic Kryptonite. I can understand the consternation one would have if there was ANY hint (or hint of a hint) that this loser was laying pipe on my reservation. Slick Willie has made his reputation, but Ms. Gershon is going to protect hers by making it clear that anything that went into Hillary ain't com'in near her. (ICK!)

Another classy response from an Obama supporter. Good work on the party unity. You and your ilk are apparently going to ensure he's unelectable by alienating fellow Democrats and then blame the Clintons.

bas1311, just because someone says something tacky about a Clinton does not mean that the person automatically supports Obama.

Letting internet comments affect your decision rather than the policies of the candidates is just unwise.
The market just dropped 400 points, we have 5$ gas, the Chinese hold a lot of our paper. This is what letting the Republicans win gets you.
If it makes you feel better to rattle a few sabers of your own by threatening to take your vote elsewhere, well and good, but just remember it isn't Obama making these comments, it's anonymous insomniacs on a Friday night, probably not entirely sober. Obama is at home preparing for eight seven-year-olds to have a sleepover. He isn't part of an ilk.

I think you're the looser. Clinton was president and is worth about 100 or so million. 18 mill just voted for his wife so somehow that translate to looser.... I better check your profile are you an ex prez a candidate or what? Oh yea you're a go to gal... who talks about laying pipe ...very delicate and er... ladylike loaded with class. I gotta a feeling Bill wouldn't have you with Dick Cheney's ...
(see word prior to Cheney).

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:29 AM on 06/07/2008

Yeah he was president, and he abused his power, yeah he is worth100 or so million, but how he got it is not being disclosed. We do know a bit of it came from Columbia, something like 10 million. By the way, check away on the profile, one thing about me is I have had a healthy relationship for 42 years with the man I married, I didn't need to go looking for anything else and neither did he. Then again he believed in his vows. You are simply another troll, looking to defame an individual with a differrent opinion then you. The problem is your lack of education is showing, and your class, but then you have made it clear you have none.

i hope gershon sues vanity fair for defamation and wins. if "more recent high-end Hollywood dinner-party gossip that Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California" doesn't insinuate that clinton and gershon are getting it on together then what exactly does it mean.

My take was more about the company that Bill was keeping (billionaire jet-setters and Hollywood-types). I didn't read into it that he had an affair with Gina Gershon. Everyone else did, but even in my re-reading it, it never struck me like that.

This is the most press Gina Gershon has had in a while and really, I think that her indignant response was a bit OTT.

You are, in fact, correct. TMZ exagerates by claiming it is an insinuation of an affair. The insinuation is simply by putting WJC's name next to any young woman's -- and the way people's mind's work. I can see how Miss Gershon would not want to be associated in that way, still, I don't think her lawyer can establish legal grounds for TMZ to publish a retraction -- nothing was actually insinuated on that level.

Miss Gershon is older than me, and I'm nearly 40. Not exactly a "young woman", not that there is anything wrong with it.

Good Lord, Obama supporters don't have time to fool with Bill Clinton. He's his own--and his wife's--worst enemy anyway. Why would we try to destroy someone who is bent on self destruction? The author of the Vanity Fair article is the husband of Dee Dee Myers, who has been an avid spokesperson for Hillary's campaign. By the way, Obama has supporters--most are not just followers. We recognize when we disagree with him, and we let the campaign know. His campaign has always, always insisted that volunteers be positive about Senator Clinton. I wonder if your candidate's campaign has acted accordingly. I've been called every name in the book by Clinton supporters--"traitor to feminism" and other worse things; when I visited Alabama and Kentucky, I was called a "n**gg*r lover" for supporting Obama. Isn't that just special? Some people never move forward. Some people wallow in their bigotry.

We need to support the Democratic Party, or we will have the same type of government for decades.
