$4 A Gallon: National Gas Price Average Reaches Record

NEW YORK — Drivers are paying an average of $4 for a gallon of gasoline for the first time. AAA and the Oil Price Information Service say the national average price for a gallon of regular gas rose to $4.005 overnight from $3.988. But consumers in many parts of the country have already been paying well above that price for some time.

Gas is expected to keep climbing, putting greater pressure on consumers and businesses, because the price of oil is soaring in futures markets. Light, sweet crude shot up nearly $11 a barrel Friday and approached $140 for the first time.

Along with higher fuel costs, consumers are also contending with higher prices for food and other goods because of rising transportation costs.

When Bush took office, average gas was $1.46 a barrel of oil was about $29 in Jan 2001, and the dollar was worth about 35% more than it is now. People bitch about ATM fees, but they don't think about Bush driving the dollar down to increase the price of oil and pump up imports(lowering the trade deficit) in order to fund their tax cuts.

The mexican oil monopoly is a joke- the have very poor technology, their safety record is horrible and the economy is in the toilet thanks largely in part to their corrupt oil company- Pemex.

Based on the relative purchasing power of the two currencies, gas is over FIVE TIMES as expensive here in China as it is in the States.

You have Mass Transit throughout your Business area. We are not of the same demographics as China in the USA. I just watched live on MSNBC ... that 4.00 a gallon is today a SHOCK ... hello.
its been over 4.00 a gallon where I live for weeks. And they offer it out like NO ONE ON THE PLANET could conceive ...reg gas So MUCH.
