Out of all the words spewed forth every Sunday morning, few are as thoughtful or as carefully considered as those of CBS' Bob Schieffer, who took some time to offer a commentary on Hillary Clinton's concession speech that went a bit beyond the campaign superficialities out of which elsewhere were making a piecemeal feast. Schieffer complimented Clinton on her grace and the fine example she set "for the young people who have worked so hard for her" and gave Clinton appropriate credit for advancing the cause of "women everywhere." "Sometimes it is losing not winning that brings out our best," Schieffer said, "Yesterday, Hillary Clinton showed us her best."

[WATCH.]

SCHIEFFER: Finally, today: Hillary Clinton made the speech of her life yesterday. She showed a grace all too rare in modern politics and she set the right example for the young people who have worked so hard for her. The Clintons have not had much practice at losing, and until yesterday that showed in a not altogether flattering way. But yesterday it all changed. She offered no excuses and instead she said the race was over, the time had come to unite behind her opponent for whom she said she would work her heart out. She told her followers she had not run to be the first woman president, but to be a woman running for president and the next time a woman runs it will no longer be so remarkable. As the father of two daughters and three granddaughters I believe she's right about that. She lost this race but she has advanced the cause of women everywhere. In life we lose more than we win. Sometimes it is losing, not winning, that brings out our best. Yesterday, Hillary Clinton showed us her best.

How can all of you HUSSEIN OBAMA followers who can not accept Hillary's endorsement keep on bashing her. Would you rather she said, "TO ALL OF MY 17 OR 18 MIO SUPPORTERS, DO NOT, AND REPEAT, DO NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA BECAUSE HE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR SUPPORT." Since her speech endorsing him is not good enough for you, work your a-----es out and see if he 'll win the GE. You are are the scumbugs on the face of the earth since you can not accept graciousness if offered. You are just showing how ignorant and uneducated you all are.

Bob Schieffer's competence makes me yearn for other hard news and special comment sections on more programs. Then as a viewer, I would know when I was being spun and when the anchor is telling me the actual story.

"She showed a grace all too rare in modern politics and she set the right example for the young people who have worked so hard for her."

Yeah, yeah! All too rare from a Clinton, but no mention that such grace has been the pattern for Obama, who also has set an even better example for the even younger people who have worked for him....

Gahhh!

I agree with you.
Obama has shown grace even when he was down ,that is GENUINE Grace. In fact he is so gracious that the media has accused him of being to nice. Even pat Buchanan siad Obams is too gracious.

Hillary wasnt gratefull.I understand people are trying to unite the party but it shouldnt be done on the basis of paying hommage where it isnt due. Does this last speech of hers change the fact that she did all she did during this primary? No it doesnt. Are those behaviours supposed to be ignored,No.

By the way,she was forced by her top Backers to give a gracefull speech. What is it that has changed between the night of the last primary and the day she delivered this "Gracious" speech of hers?

All that has changed is that Ed Randel,Rep Rangel going infront of the media to call her off.

I dont call that garcefull, its disgracefull. Its the typical behavious of a kid who wouldnt appologize untill their parents force them to do so. She has behaved like a big KID all along. Lets hope not every woman is like her.

I know when I watched Hillary Clinton's concession speach,... it was one of the first times this election cycle that I could actually see her acting in a way I would have described as being 'Presidential Material',...

For once her message didn't seem to be centered around herself,... and didn't seem to be working on triangulating a message.

Too bad she waited until it was all over to go to an uplifting, unifying message.

However,... if I can't have Kucinich,... Give me Obama!

I think the better story about this morning's FTN would be Jim Webb's segment. He was fantastic! He summed up what will make this campaign great: Intellect, Composure and Vision. Well done, Jim.

Bob, I respect you and I think you have class. Your remarks about HRC kind of put a period at the end of a long sentence. But, regarding HRC, I am just ready for all the pandering to be over. Has she not been given sufficient "space" and "respect"? I think so. Can we now please lavish the praise and attention that is due our nominee? I'd love to hear about what HE wants!!

What you typed Marichu,... Bob is one of the few good ones remaining on the network News,...

He's the only one I respect outside of PBS any more.

I agree she showed us her best, and unfortunately it looked more like Rove than anything else.

I found her speech touching. She showed a side of herself that, had she shown while she was campaigning, might have won her the nomination. It's all water under the bridge now. Instead of criticizing and insulting fellow Democrats, let's look to the general election and focus our disgust where it belongs: on the mere THOUGHT of four more years of Republican mess-making.

Too bad she didn't "show us her best" during her campaign.

Apparently her good buddy Rangel finally had to tell her to pack it in. Her bravado on Tuesday night showed that she had fully intended to continue the fight. All the way to the convention if necessary.

Tuesday night in the concrete bunker, lol.

Love you, Bob.

Hey! Remember that fantastic speech Mel Gibson gave about how he's not an anti-semite? That was a great performance also.
