Senator John McCain has aggressively tried to distance himself from Bush in an effort to avoid being tagged by Democrats as running for Bush's third term. However, as Think Progress notes, McCain's chief surrogate, Senator Lindsey Graham, did not adhere to that message during his appearance on ABC's This Week, with George Stephanopoulos.

Stephanopoulos asked Sen. Graham if McCain's tax and healthcare policies are essentially "an extension or maybe an enhancement of the Bush policies." Sen. Graham answered, "Yeah, absolutely."

It would appear that this is a case where everybody knows that since it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it is a duck...except the duck.

John McCain will do well to let the voters forget about President Bush!

The "highest corporate tax rate" thing was almost a lie. When corporations and buisness execs make as much as they do in America, it only makes sense that our rate is higher, which leads to Kerry saying "not the effective rate."

I bet Graham wishes he could have that answer back!

Kerry, you look stronger than ever. I voted for you and respect you - way to hit hard against that loathsome maggot Lindsey Graham, the epitome of Rethuglican values, and John McCain's self-professed "little jerk". McCain/Graham never matured past adolescence and look like a pair of pubescent love birds when they cozy up together and start giggling and calling each other "Jerk": "You're a jerk" "No you are! heheheheh" - blech, I'm gonna be sick!

The Repugs are toast this November. They need to figure out how they are going to practice damage control. O'bama is going to bring in a lot of "down-ticket" people into Congress.

Now if only our soon to be elected Democratic government can show some responsibility while they are in office, maybe we can actually get out of the mess that we are in now.

If you like the direction our country is moving - vote Republican.

So what is this effective rate thing?

I don't think the Republicans leadership is aware of just how far removed they are from the voter.

To be saying Corporate America has the 2nd highest tax rate in the world, next to Japan, while neglecting the effective tax rate (actual taxes paid - as I understand it) is so stagnant in thinking, it's no wonder they have split the way they have.

2008 is a test of survival for them, imho.

Too bad Kerry stepped on Graham's gaffe instead of underlining it.

Oh, my, poor John McCain. He just isn't going to be able to escape one of the greatest dangers to his campaign. (And it's going to come from his supporters as well as his opponent.) On my list of a (baker's) dozen reasons why McCain won't win, Number 1:

1. The McBush factor. McCain’s support of the Iraq War will make it impossible for him to break from Bush, the most unpopular president in living memory. The photo/video of McCain hugging and being kissed by Bush will become increasingly embedded in the collective consciousness of the American people as the months roll on.
