Lindsey Graham

Senator John McCain has aggressively tried to distance himself from Bush in an effort to avoid being tagged by Democrats as running for Bush's third term. However, as Think Progress notes, McCain's chief surrogate, Senator Lindsey Graham, did not adhere to that message during his appearance on ABC's This Week, with George Stephanopoulos.

Stephanopoulos asked Sen. Graham if McCain's tax and healthcare policies are essentially "an extension or maybe an enhancement of the Bush policies." Sen. Graham answered, "Yeah, absolutely."

It was very interesting to hear Sen. Graham defending Bush's tax cuts on the rich. According to Graham, those tax cuts help millions of Americans. He is absolutely, 100%, correct.

The richest 2% of 300 million Americans are 6 million strong. So, yes, Bush's tax cuts are helping millions of Americans. The problem, as I see it, is that those same tax cuts are hurting 100s of millions of Americans.

But, at least, Graham didn't lie - he just fudged the truth a little (actually a lot), to make something that stinks to smell like something that is very aromatic. Southerners like Graham are very good at misusing the English language - they have had a lot of practice.

Hopefully Sen. Graham will be McCain's running mate. Then, Lieberman will have to follow them both around, whispering in their ears what mistakes they have just made. By the end of the campaign, Lieberman will be all worn out!

Another GOP squeeze-toy and chickenhawk, this one a grizzled combat veteran of the JAG offices where -- when the fighting gets really intense -- people sometimes raise their voices.

The three-hour lunches help...

Whatever you do, Lindsay, don't stop now! We love hearing from you.

The Republicans have been playing the same old dirty game for far too long and getting away with it. BUT not this time Democrats! It is time to give as good as we get!

"You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That's* the *Chicago* way! And that's how you get Capone. Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I'm offering you a deal. Do you want this deal?"

The R's are about to find out that running against a nice Wh Lady didn't allow O to get as biting as he can be. It would have been a very bad marketing strategy.

Now, the Chicago can come out! This should be fun.

I like the way Kerry said, "....not the EFFECTIVE rate" - not after the corporations get all the tax loopholes, shelters, corporate welfare, etc. - corporations actually pay not all that much in taxes (the big ones, that is).

Graham is bought-and-paid-for corporatist.

Thank you so much, Senator Graham, for confirming a central theme of Senator Obama's campaign against Senator McCain. With friends like Graham, McCain doesn't need enemies. Obama for Change 2008!

The angry Hillary voters group is a sham. 90% of these voters are republicans posing a democrats. There was a great post on dailykos where one of the bloggers googled the people on internet and found that none of the "so called" angry Hillary voters had ever donated any money to either Hillary or DNC. Two of them turned out to be past Chuck Hagel supporters and one turned out to be a libertarian. This is another phony chaos strategy online. I hope disgruntled democrats do not fall prey to this sham.

Thank you, I was just having that conversation this morning. When women (white women were polled in 2007 more than 50% hate HRC and would never voter for her) what changed - Repubs and so-called Independ wanted to see the race go on.

And it backfired - By having everyone vote in every state (Which should be the norm) you gave voice to America.

As long as we keep electing politicians like Joe Lobbyman or Lindsay Graham who put Israel’s interest before American interest, our problems will get worst rather than getting better. For example when it comes to Iran, Israel’s interest and American interest do not coincide. Since Iran has been isolated from American Businesses, the big gainers have been mainly China, India and Russia. At the time American businesses were prohibited to do business in Iran, Chinese and Russian businesses have been signing multi-billion Dollars contracts. If US-Iran relations is ever improved, Iran would make a strong and effective US ally in the Middle East and US may not have to rely on Israel so much. Therefore there would be no longer any reason for billions of Dollars of annually financial and military US aides to Israel. For that exact reason, every time there is a chance that there could be some improvement in the US-Iran relation, the process is sabotaged directly by Israel or indirectly via Israel’s special interest groups such as AIPAC.

This is not likely to happen as long as an Anglo Protestant majority makes decisions in this country. Israel is part of America's civil religion. In many ways, America was founded on the idea of being a "new Israel" by the early European immigrants that came here. Washington was even viewed as a kind of Moses figure. The Anglo Protestant connection to Persian, Arab and Islamic culture is far more tenuous. I agree with your assessment of the situation. However, it's clear that the major players in the American political scene do not. Otherwise, it's not likely that Senator Obama would have to make a speech before AIPAC immediately after winning the nomination.

You have some very salient points. I would not worry so much about international relations. There will be a course change once Barack takes office. I know what he has said to certain special interest groups, but the substance of his foreign policy will be fundamentally differently from what we have seen.

He just can't appear to be gutting the entire flawed policies built over many years of doing it wrong. Be patient, the net effect will be less pandering to the status quo.

Many of our international issues directly affects our domestic issues. For example the recent huge rise in the oil price is mostly related to the hostile situation in the Middle East and high oil price directly affects us domestically.
