Fist Bump

Update: MediaMatters has issued a call to action around this incident.

ACTION: The Obamas' affectionate "fist bump" is no "terrorist fist jab"

On the June 6 edition of Fox News' America's Pulse, host E.D. Hill teased an upcoming discussion on a gesture Sen. Barack Obama shared with his wife, Michelle, saying, "A fist bump? A pound? A terrorist fist jab? The gesture everyone seems to interpret differently."

A "terrorist fist jab"? Seriously?

Tell Fox News this is appalling and unacceptable, and demand an apology from E.D. Hill.

Sign the Petition.

Call Fox News.

Tell Your Friends.

Original Post: MediaMatters reports that Fox News' E.D. Hill referred to the Barack-Michelle Obama fist pound as a "terrorist fist jab" during Friday's edition of "America's Pulse."

During the June 6 edition of Fox News' America's Pulse, host E.D. Hill teased an upcoming discussion by saying, "A fist bump? A pound? A terrorist fist jab? The gesture everyone seems to interpret differently." In the ensuing discussion with Janine Driver -- whom Hill introduced as "a body language expert" -- Hill referred to the "Michelle and Barack Obama fist bump or fist pound," adding that "people call it all sorts of things." Hill went on to ask Driver: "Let's start with the Barack and Michelle Obama, because that's what most people are writing about -- the fist thump. Is that sort of a signal that young people get?" At no point during the discussion did Hill explain her earlier reference to "a terrorist fist jab."

From the June 6 edition of Fox News' America's Pulse:

HILL: A fist bump? A pound? A terrorist fist jab? The gesture everyone seems to interpret differently. We'll show you some interesting body communication and find out what it really says.

CNN notes that the fist-pound is catching on. Witness Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Kay Bailey Hutchison share a fist-pound here during CNN's Late Edition.

There is no such thing as "reverse" racism.
There is only racism.

This si in response to Cubalibre

I'm not an economist but I think economy is much more complex than just raising or lowering taxes. Take the example of the Clinton years: 22 million jobs created, a trillion dollars surplus a balanced budget and guess what ? with higher taxes than during the Bush administration

Raisng and lowering taxes are very simple things that simple minded people can easily base their decisions on. They love to hear a sentence like " I want to keep money on the pocket of the american people". It makes them feel that you're on their side (they don't see that you saving them $600/yr but you're taking away $3000/yr at the gas pump and more at the college tuition, food etc.. ).. Sentences like "I trust the judgment of the american people on what to do with their money".. Yes it sounds very uplifting. But is it really? many americans showed that they don't have a good judgment in the mortgage crisis !!! Oh I forgot. They need to be responsible for their actions!

One more thing. You're nervous about Corporations starting laying off people because Obama will increase their taxes. Have you thought how much % increase in taxes a $4 a gallon of gas would translate to for certain BIG Corporations which are keeping you in your job ? :) I guess not ! SPS news haven't heard Some People talking about it yet LOL

The Republican are such idiotic pathetic losers, they think everything is a terrorist plot. Even Rachel Ray is a terrorist. They're just like Guinea Pigs .. you take one stray look at them and they pee all over themselves .. and they eat their young.

Thank you, clear-thinking Americans, calling this what it is... a cowardly attempt at notoriety and sensationalism. Faux News is exposed yet again for what it truly is - a shoddy collection of individuals who have based their "profession" on the squeakiest wheel concept. What happens now is just the merest insinuation of something alarming in connection with anyone, will stick like mud, even it disproved. What's the cure? Label the cowards for what they are, don't give them credence, and arm ourselves with as much real, documented, balanced information in considering issues. It's time Americans own up to the responsibility of seeking truth.

Hill's comment about the pound being a Terrorist Fist Jab" was their usual manipulative "someone said this so we can report it as if it's news" line. You gotta wonder why people keep watching that station.

What's even worse is that all the commentators on Faux News are either young blond women or old bizarre men. What's that about?

I love the sobriquet, "Faux News"--perfect.
Just when you thought Fox had taken you again (and again) to the the nadir of idiocy, Ms. Hill shows us its ABYSS. As Rick Shenkman recently pointed out, it is HARD to understand the economy or, say, foreign policy, to offer an intelligent discussion of these things and to venture a cogent analysis--but quite EASY to prate endlessly on such stupid things as confabulated "terrorist fist jabs." Hill's "journalism" has all the intellectual content of mud-fights, and like them, she and those who enjoy her spectacles bring disgrace upon themselves. Let us heed the words of Virgil to Dante as the former leads him through hell, "Fama di loro il mondo esser non lassa/misericordia e giustizia li sdegna/non raggioniam di lor, ma guarda e passa' --"The world will let no fame of theirs endure/both justice and compassion must disdain them/let us not talk of them, but look and pass." And, mind you, not look too long, or very often.

To Davkaman,

So you are suggesting we simply don't watch? If the American people were half as smart as you seem to be, they wouldn't need to be told. Nice try, tho.

I am NOT a fan of Fox news, but let's be fair here.
E.D. Hill did NOT say she thought the fist bump was a terrorist hand signal.
She was reporting on body language of the candidates, and clearly stated
what "others" in the media were reporting.

The terrorist thing apparently came from a right wing nut job's blog.
But still, Hill did not say she believed it.

Let's hear the whole thing before we start to act like the right wing nut jobs
we accuse of biased reporting. And the entire report can be found on
YouTube.

On You Tube too, I read a reply (with which I agreed :)) to a comment similar to yours made by a certain "Dingleberry". Here it is (I had to make some editing to make it pass in the huffington post ;)):

"Why don't you stick to blowing up stuff, something your good at. Dingleberry is a very appropriate name! There is a difference between free speech and slander. The only way Fox gets away with it is by putting it in the form of a question. We didn't say it was a terrorist hand signal we just asked the question. I didn't say your mother @$#*ed your bother Dingleberry, I just asked if she did? "

IF that's the case she should have never mentioned it on her show. So yes, let's act like right-wing nut jobs over this. What's fair is fair!

So, does that mean that Ricky Bobby and Cal Naughton Jr. are terrorists too because of their "Shake and Bake" fist bump?
Ricky Bobby a terrorist? You take that back, Faux News.
