WASHINGTON — Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a former Democratic presidential contender, said Monday he wants the House to consider a resolution to impeach President Bush.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi consistently has said impeachment was "off the table."

Kucinich, D-Ohio, read his proposed impeachment language in a floor speech. He contended Bush deceived the nation and violated his oath of office in leading the country into the Iraq war.

Kucinich introduced a resolution last year to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. That resolution was killed, but only after Republicans initially voted in favor of taking up the measure to force a debate.

Kucinich won 50 percent of the vote in a five-way House Democratic primary in March, beating back critics who said he ignored business at home to travel the country in his quest to be president.

While I applaud Representative Kucinich for introducting this resolution and his moxie, I know, like Nancy Pelosi, that the votes to carry the resolution are not there and even if they were, the issue would die in the Senate. The particularly sad state of affairs is that what shouldn't be a partisan issue is. Democrats have impeached and releaved of office their own in the past. That no Republicans have come out in favor of the Constitution when crimes have clearly been committed says a lot about the state of politics in America.

It doesn't matter if they have the votes; it's the right thing to do. Thank you Mr. Kucinich.

the votes weren't there to impeach nixon either. but an INVESTIGATION led to the "cancer on the presidency" that forced him to resign in humiliation. if the house and senate would just consider the resolution and hold hearings, then this thing would be a freight train.

But will the votes be there on January 5th? THAT's the big question!

Where in God's name were all these people running around and yelling for impeachment when Powell was forced to go to the UN and make a laughing stock of America with those mobile bio-weapons trucks.

Any half a brain idiot knew we were being BS'ed at that time.

It's too late AMERICA. Bush only got 6 to go and he can sail through that in a breeze. What we all have to watch out for is if Bush attacks Indiana thinking there is a link to Iran. You know the "I"....

59 Million Americans who voted for this guy?...You all deserve $6.00 a gallon gas....and by God you'll get it in a few short weeks. Europe is paying $9.00 and $10.00 a gallon.

And what about those who DIDN'T vote for that crook? Why should we suffer? Are you a glutton for punishment or what?

I have to agree. We had the chance as the people to fix things in 2004 and didn't. The new Congress had a chance again in 2006, and didn't. I can only hope that Obama, working with a potentially more Democratic Congress, can get us back on track.

But you are so right, $6/gallon or more is what we deserve. In Iraq, many thousands have lost their lives. Millions have lost their homes. The fact that we Americans will reap some non-trivial consequences is justice - although, as ebanks84 said, some of us voted for the other guy. Too bad we have to come along for the ride.

I agree with you. Machiavelli said we get the government we deserve.

Hey, the ones of us, who didn't vote for him, will suffer less -- a free conscious.

There's generous grassroots support for this resolution to impeach Bush (and Cheney!)

U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler is but one supporter of this resolution. While it's been a mostly thankless job, Kucinich, a true patriot of this country, has worked long and hard to almost single-handedly bring to justice the war criminals responsible for the deaths of 4,100 Americans and 500,000 to 1 million Iraqis, and the maiming for millions more. Want to thank our modern-day Goliath-slayer, Dennis "David" Kucinich? You gratitude will carry more weight with a call and/or a letter:

Please call your representatives today at the following number and urge Speaker Pelosi and others to co-sponsor/support Dennis Kucinich's resolution to impeach Bush and Cheney. It's easy. Just call the number below, then ask to speak to a specific senator/representative. Once connected, you need say no more than, "I am phoning to urge support for Dennis Kucinich's resolution to hold impeachment hearings for both President Bush and Vice-President Cheney."

And/or put it in writing via a "Support Rep. Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment" letter at the web address below. The following site will automatically direct your letter to the representatives and senators in your state:

This country needs to get serious before we all lose our rights as citizens. This country needs to get real and stand up against a government that moves closer and closer to closing down this open society. We're already starting to feel the squeeze. When the media is silenced (in whatever fashion; whether turning their heads or forcefully by some other means), THAT'S when we need to start worrying and take a serious look at the order of events. The media, for some reason, is scared or not allowed to give us the whole truth. They've been reaching for stories ever since the primaries ended and to not report the efforts of Dennis Kucinich is a blatant neglect of all that journalism and journalists stand for: the search for truth.

PAY ATTENTION before it's too late. Pick up Naomi Wolf's "The End of America" to educate yourselves so that we may stand together with Barack Obama, to get our country back. We cannot afford to wait.

Thank you Dennis!!! We must impeach otherwise our constitution will not exist. America must have justice!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:08 PM on 06/10/2008

Why impeach. they will be out of office in a little over 6 months and bush will pardon them all anyway.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:58 PM on 06/10/2008

Bush can't pardon himself. Only a President McCain can. Another great reason to vote Obama.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:06 PM on 06/10/2008

THe goal is to impeach Bush, that way we can go after others in the administration without worrying about him pardoning them. Take away his power, take away his pardons.

Then wait until Obama's in office, get the DOJ back in order and preosecute the whole lot of them without the potential of pardons.

He won't be pardoning anyone once he's impeached. Whether or not they're in office won't matter. They lied and acted criminally, and MUST be held accountable. Period.

It's symbolic, like condemning a serial murderer even though he has cancer. It's showing that there are lines you can't cross, and that Bush did cross them.

How can Kucinich do this if Pelosi has taken impeachment off the table? I'm confussed.

There's even a media blackout on HuffPo almost. Nothing about this AT ALL on the homepage right now. Have to go digging in the 'Politics' section to find it.

"For that matter, why do we prosecute serial killers, rapists, and paedophiles, and send them to jail? I mean, they already DID the crime! No problem pouring trillions of dollars into the war profiteers pockets, but god forbid we actually enforce the constitution."

Disgusting.

I just worry that if they impeach the president and not the vice president at the same time, we'll be stuck with the vice president as acting president until the inauguration. That could be disasterous. At least as it stands, the veep doesn't have the authority to take us to war with Iran or even North Korea...

Who do you think has been running the show from the git go? Bush is just a ventriloquist's puppet.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:28 PM on 06/10/2008

No one in the executive branch has the authority to take us to war. See article 7 of the thirty five articles of impeachment. And Kucinich tried unsuccessfully to impeach Cheney in February. Peolsi is next in line after those two. (Clinton would love that) Here is the AOI document:
