WASHINGTON — Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a former Democratic presidential contender, said Monday he wants the House to consider a resolution to impeach President Bush.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi consistently has said impeachment was "off the table."

Kucinich, D-Ohio, read his proposed impeachment language in a floor speech. He contended Bush deceived the nation and violated his oath of office in leading the country into the Iraq war.

Kucinich introduced a resolution last year to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. That resolution was killed, but only after Republicans initially voted in favor of taking up the measure to force a debate.

Kucinich won 50 percent of the vote in a five-way House Democratic primary in March, beating back critics who said he ignored business at home to travel the country in his quest to be president.

They better hurry before they start another war. I feel they are dead set on destroying this country before they leave office and fly off to Isreal.

This just in:

Under circumstances that can best be described as "suspicious," the www.kucinich.us website was crippled early this morning a few hours after Congressman Dennis Kucinich introduced 35 extensively documented Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.

Until we can restore the website and implement additional security measures, you can find the full list and detailed Articles at
http://www.democrats.com/files/amomentoftruth.pdf

It still isn't working.
It's a good thing kucinich is doing this but it won't go very far.
The best solution would be for a full investigation once the dems are in the white house.
But my fear is that Bush and Co will be destroying most documents in the event of a democratic election. Is there any way to block them from doing this?
Will the dems have the balls to go after the repubs. If not it would be proof we are in an acomodating democracy which wouldn't really be one.

Rep. Kucinich is one of the few respectable people left in the House nowadays. If we lived in a sane, democratic society, he would be the Democratic nominee right now. Obama is clearly a step above most of the other candidates, particularly Clinton, and at least has his fearless opposition to the Iraq War in common with Kucinich, but I'm still compromising my principles by voting for Obama. Pelosi's attitude that impeachment is "off the table" from the moment her party won back the HR in 2006 is one of the key reasons I left in 2000. I was & still am disgusted with the ubiquitous cowardice of the Democratic Party with few exceptions, Kucinich being one of the most obvious. I couldn't remain a Democrat in good conscience, while the Greens consistently fight for all that Democrats claim to support in their own platform. Pelosi's refusal to allow a House vote on impeachment is prima facie dereliction of duty. This is not something the Democrats should "pull off" but a fundamental duty of all legislators who swear on the Bible to uphold the Constitution. Vincent Bugliosi recently posted a superlative argument on Huffuington Post for impeachment parallel to John Dean's thesis in "Worse than Watergate. If I had my druthers, I'd readily appoint Bugliosi as a special prosecutor to oversee this process so far as the Constitution allows. We must all stand behind Kucinich & all other Reps. who co-sponsor this measure to deliver justice to the guilty parties

I think they'll impeach the b@stards after the elections. Pelosi don't want this to dominate the general election season. NOTHING turns out Repugs more than an anti-impeachment election.

Economy, the war, gas prices, foreclosures are going to put Obama into office. And 2009-10 is going to be the year that record number of Republican officials go to jail for treason and war crimes.

Kucinich needs to tie it to a "tough on crime" bill. Then we could hear the Republicans argue that some high crimes are less worthy of punishment than parking tickets.

Barack needs to learn from Dennis & make him Vice President or speaker of the house. preferrably replace Pelosi. I'm surprised no one impeached her for "taking impeachment off the table." I want to know WHY she did that from HER mouth.

Well I kept watching people leave as Dennis gave his speech. Guess the Republicans don't want to debate it this time. I think Pelosi is just as guilty as Bush for selling out the country. Look at what she's allowed to happen. Kucinich for House Speaker!

Pelosi will not consider this. She is looking at the election this year, and doesn't want to ruffle any feathers (even though the inaction is ruffling my feathers). Also, who wants Nancy Pelosi as president? If she became president after bush and cheney get removed from office by impeachment, the democrats would be doomed in November.

I think the congress needs to limit bush's power and let him ride out his term. First on congress' agenda should be to take away bush's authority to go to war with Iran. As long as that is not an option for bush, there is not much left for him to screw up.

They would never complete hearings by the election. But, it would start the vital process of holding these bastards accountable.

This is the best possible election weapon the Democrats could have. Negative headlines every day. Republicans trying desperately to distance themselves from the administration. People turning and giving evidence to keep themselves out of jail.
I agree that Pelosi would be a terrible president, but she'd certainly be less harmful than the current officeholder, it would only be for a few months and, it would get all that "1st woman president" nonsense out of the way.

Well, that's the main reason for them to drag the impeachment hearings out past december! this would be the ONLY reason that they could take EXCESSIVE tea & tinkle breaks, take the ENTIRE month of August/September off fot their "summer vacation", resume in mid Sept., take some more inordinantly long weekends, more tea & tinkle breaks...You see where I'm going here! The US Congress & House of Reps is accustomed to wasting massive amounts of precious time - why would the drastically needed bu$h/cheney impeachment time-wasting be any different?

This is something that has been LONG overdue, & we MUST begin the process NOW!!!

You go, Dennis Kucinich!!! You make me proud to be an Ohioan...THIS week!!!

It doesn't seem like they'll get anything else done as long as they don't have the majority. They might as well spend their time on this.

To jail with the whole administration - impeachment is not enough!

It's a disgrace that his own party treats him like a leper and was content see him blacklisted from most of the primary debates and ignored in the one's in which he was allowed to participate. For every principled and honest Democrat like Kucinich, there are 300 more pusillanimous clumps of jelly willing to roll over for Bush and for their corporate masters.

I simply find it unimaginable that people who spend their entire lives involved in politics
have not yet seen the myriad of ways to frame a Bush impeachment. Not only is Nancy Pelosi's position on impeachment cowardly, its a straight out lie.
To tell American's that the cost of Impeachment would outweigh the benefits is psychotic. Nothing that anyone does after Bush will matter if the Congress maintains that what Bush and Cheney are doing is legal. Without accountability there can never be a foundation to credibly change anything.

What people like Nancy Pelosi want you to believe is that there will be a backlash against the Democrats for going after the most unpopular president in HISTORY. A president who knowingly crafted energy policy designed to send energy cost skyrocketing. Everyone in America is going broke
and gas is $5.00 a gallon. I will repeat that, gas is $5.00 a gallon and George Bush has played a direct role in that being reality, yet Pelosi essentially tells you that they can not come up with a strategy politically smart enough to pull off the impeachment of our national disgrace. If this is true then they are simply not fit to lead in any case. Whether its that they don't have the will, or they don't have the knowledge, they unfit for this movement.

Support Kucinich however you can, and whatever happens make sure he stays a well known and well regarded figure. At least in these circles.

I dunno, I would just feel better if this resolution was from some one other then Dennis Kucinich. He reminds me of Ross Perot. Nice guy, likable, but hardly the person to gather wide support.

Don't get me wrong, I like Dennis, but let's be honest, he makes some Democrats a little uncomfortable. The NH 2007 Debate for example. He was just too loud and judgemental towards all the other candidates. No middle ground for him. Either his way or your wrong. That turned me off about him early. At least other candidates showed each other some respect and refrained from being too judgemental. We all have our reasons for doing what we do, and we all believe they are the right reasons. But if Dodd and others back him that's great. I just have some doubts about this thats all. He makes great points but his delivery just comes across as odd some times. Like Ross Perot!

Well, it is about time. The entire Administration should be brought up on charges - Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Condi, Powell, the whole DAMN bunch! It is a shame - they brought Clinton up on charges for lying about getting a "BJ," but these fools have done much worse and are getting a free pass. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY!

First, thanks! You are one of the many reasons resident evil is threatened this year.

Second, that's a big 10-4 on the call. I just made it and it was as simple as you said. If we all make it, impeachment will be as simple as reading the tea leaves of documented dissent. I intend to voice my concern in the suggested written format as well.

I reflect back to you encouragement to keep your voice in this high stakes affair called the "Struggle for the life and soul of a nation". I am ready for action yet I am not necessarily enlightened concerning my options. Anything that provides an opportunity to strike a blow for justice is a field I endeavor to play on -- and to play with urgency, the vigor, and the ferocity, that these times demand.

Thank you for the 800 number! I had already email my house representative when I read your post, katzooks, but I went ahead and made 6 calls.

At 3 pm in the afternoon, the staff at my representative's field office DID NOT KNOW that Kucinich proposed the Articles of Iimpeachment yesterday. We really need to get the word out, starting with our U.S. HOUSE REPS.

Let's rally support for this brave and wise American, Dennis Kucinich. He's done us a great service, let's return the favor, folks. It's the only way it has any chance of proceeding to a vote.
