Laura Bush Defends Michelle Obama Against Patriotism Attack

Laura

The Huffington Post:

Laura Bush also defended Sen. Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, for a controversial remark on the campaign trail in February.

"For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback," Michelle Obama said in a speech in Milwaukee.

"I think she probably meant I'm 'more proud,' you know, is what she really meant," Bush told ABC News. "You have to be very careful in what you say. I mean, I know that, and that's one of the things you learn and that's one of the really difficult parts both of running for president and for being the spouse of the president, and that is, everything you say is looked at and in many cases misconstrued."

Day late and dollar short -- keep your false charity, Mrs Bush.

I'm starting to see a pattern here. In 2 days' time:

Laura makes nice to Michelle.

Dennis Kucinich introduces 35 articles of impeachment against Bush, in the House.

Bush tells a UK paper he is really, really sorry people think of him as a warmonger.

What could it all mean?????

I think these people are running scared. They know what they have done.

I'll give credit where credit is due. That was very classy of Mrs. Bush.

It was a classy thing to say, whether it was from her or not. She's a classy lady. However, she's a wimp most of the time, and frankly don't have a lot of respect for her. She's the only one that can deliver the one liners on Bush almost better than the comedians. She gets an evil little gleam in her eye, and its there for this one too. My thought is George did one more thing to tick her off and she decided to make him pay a little. Reporters ask him things to make him look silly all the time and she just fed them a doozy. ("Why is your wife defending the democratic candidate" Why is your wife sticking up for a democrat, Mr. President. Of course he's going to get asked numerous others about it..and its a small thing really, but he won't know the answer, and that will make him stutter, followed by a little red face blustering. Really, I think she does these things just to get his goat. So way to get your digs in Mrs. Bush. We really do love it when you hand them to him on a platter. It's lovely really. I don't like your husband even a little, but you have grown on me these last few years must feel pretty good to be the most popular person in the white house.

Oops. She must not have gotten the memo from the McCain campaign and RNC.

Laura Bush was told to say this in order to keep Michelle's comment front and center. Take the heat off what is going on in politics. Laura Bush claimed that "No one suffers more than the president and myself over this war in Iraq" Really, Laura? How many relatives of YOURS are being maimed or dying over there? The elder Bush has 14 grandchildren, most of military age, yet not one in uniform. I have no respect for this woman. One recommendation, though, Laura. Quit with the face lifts, they are no longer complimentary.

Kucinich presents Bush impeachment articles

"An Ohio Democratic lawmaker and former presidential candidate has presented articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush to Congress.

Thirty-five articles were presented by Rep. Dennis Kucinich to the House of Representatives late Monday evening, airing live on C-SPAN June 9th, 2008

Why is this not being covered by any US media. This is big news and not even one mention anywhere.

Laura Bush is one classy woman. My hat is off. She welcomes Michelle Obama as the next First Lady. Wow! This more than we can say for that other First Lady.
09:29 AM on 06/10/2008
Laura is going to have to show Michelle around the White House quarters in a few months. She is doing the required, correct First Lady solidarity thing. Don't make too much of it.

With a 23% approval rating and costing the Oval Office in 2008, Laura is probably wondering if the White House is still going to invite them to things.

She could have been as gracious when the Bushes were on top, but she wasn't - she read Karl Rove's speeches on command.

I saw her and daughter Jena on Leno a couple of weeks ago and kept thinking, how did W end up with such a great daughter? I think the answer has to be Laura. I don't see her as the air-head-stand-by-your-man type at all, and I think she knows exactly what's gone down, and will probably leave him after they're out of Washington. Jena's an Obamacan if ever I saw one.

Laura is a fine woman. I doubt I could have put up with what she's had to endure these last 8 + years.

She's been married to him for decades! She must like it. What that says about her, is not flattering.

Say what you want about George Bush,... he married well.

Mrs. Laura Bush I am proud of you! Let's see the Republican Slime Machine try to continue to miscontrue Mrs. Obama's words now. You shot them down with honesty and common sense. It must be the teacher in you. Thank you so much for showing your class.
